juror: Mr. Masadi is not a beggar. He is merely collecting his fee for the expert advice he provides on chowk. Every post he writes is worth its weight in 24 carat gold. Too bad though that the weight of posts on the computer screen is 0 grams.

Anil and the other thugs, my comments were not about pop music that is popular because peons like you have the brains of rats, it was about what he did with his public persona, he discredited everything "black" about him and tried to transform himself into a brown sahib much like you you miseries, therefore he was a personification of the personification of the colored folk by the white man,

RIP MJ ... you changed the music of this world.

now ... as for those insisting that pakistani pop music has been struggling in decades, the reason is simple, we do have a proper infrastructure and coverage, lahore college of arts and something in karachi !!! that is not enough !!! where in India the infrastructure is far more advanced & in reach of the public.

our guys cannot write music, they do not study to be musicians, it's amazing how they pick up an instrument and start playing it without proper training or writing a single note, cause it's all in thier head. rohail hayaat was my neighbour & when VS was working on thier first album we could not sleep at nights cause they would play over and over to get the tunes right.

the bands we know are just handful of a few we have known due to media coverage but if you look into pakistani underground music & there is so much potential, but they do not get any coverage plus they do not have "cheap" access to recording studios, it costs a fortune to record a track. no body's coming forward with any solution, and we sit and criticize on how it all sucks.

when meekal hassan came on scene it was really good, his approach & his music was fresh but now looking at this guy's attitude & his ego !!! jeeesus !!! it sucks, he owns on of the best studios in pakistan but you need to have deep pockets to have access to that.

there was a time during 90s when "music channel charts" startd and it gave exposure to many bands but when it stoppted, that was the end of it!!!

"battle of the bands" did produce some good bands but got lost somewhere on the way, I am disappointed at EP and Aaroh, they put so much effort into thier music then lost it !!! we sure know how to distroy a telent & COLA sponsorship also kills the talent of a band !!!

now the fresh start, coke studio (another cola injection), to revise ourself cause after long time I am listening to pakistani music again, it's fresh & it sounds good, this needs to keep on going.

we need more people like shoaib mansoor and rohail hayaat as a guide to the bands who have potential, our guys have talent, they have voices but they need someone to guide them in the right direction, but sadly no one comes forward and say "alright I am here ... whoever needs my help can reach out".

where is nizar lalani? where is arshad mahmood?

But hopeful we have ramained and we will continue to do so !!!

MJs death should bring the focus on the poor health care funding for males in the androphobic US of A, resulting in their earlier deaths, as compared to females.

He was purely a money spinner for all the females in his life. His ex-wife now wants all his money - PROVING, THAT TO THE 'MODERN' MONEY-MINDED WOMAN, THE BEST HUSBAND IS THE DEAD ONE.

No.....I still do not agree..

because , then it was the pakistnai POP , which took over ...

Nazia , Zhoaib phenomena had its origin in Indian exposure ,

But it was Alamgir, Sheykhi, Tara Ghansham,Afsheen, Amjad Hussain, ....and a bit later , Vital Signs, Junoon, Ali Haider,Awaz ... Hadiqa Kiyani,....etc..etc which took over

and this strom of RAW POP Music .... did not left anything for any one to look for the Inidan alternative... it created its own , enough and sufficient momentum .... which saw Pakistan rough away the Zia's distortions in the society.

Yes .... it was later on, starting with First BB term, ...which swang a Bit .....then again recovered .... with the comming of People like Shiraz Uppal, Shehzad Roy, Abrar , Solo Haroon, and Solo Fakhir ....Adnan Sami ..etc...

But at present , though its still not a complete Bollywood's but it does appears... Pakistani Music is gradually loosing ground.

Because now Singers like Atif,...etc...have turned their attention toward the bigger Bollywoood market.

and it has now become almost a purely Market oriented affair.

You are talking about the gold old days of Pak films before Zia's misguided Islamization destroyed it. Bolywood's influence on Pak culture dramatically increased because of lack of alternative entertainment in the local tongue.

...and as far as Bollywood influence is concerned in music.

Pakistani and Bollywoood music were running a parallel thread

If India had Kishore, Mukeysh, Rafi, Lata and Asha .

Pakistan had Ahmed Rushdi, Masood Rana, Saleem Raza, Noor Jehan ,.....and later Naheed Akhter and Mehnaz.

..... infact , every now and then, one finds, Indians lifting up a Pakistani song, re-singing and re-mixing it to include it in their films...

Watch Zhoaib 's Dhoom

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9P8CHcZsGU

and compare it with MJ's Billy Jeans

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fHoDWc22B0

song is different , music is different , melody is different, ....... except Picturization.

Jhoom show its clearly being inspired by the Picturization of Billy jeans.

the same, three frame cuts , and joining after a pause, Jhoom even showed the Tiger ....

..... so yes , Pakistani POP was inspired by M J .

and we used to sing, Beat it , and dance to thriller .

What I am saying is trying to clarify what you said earlier in your prior post about bollywood's influence of liking MJ? in Pak land.

There is absolutely NO association of such influence.

I grew up in Pakistan and all my school friends and I adored MJ and worshiped him like a Music GOD....We never got any influence from bollywood.....

Also, I watched and witnessed other Pakistanis loving MJ for their independent likings, absolutely no association with any bollywood influence.....please, make corrections..

Yes, you're right Pak land watch bollywood movies as well. That is different issue......no relationship with MJ.

Thanks

IMHO, I don't think so. Just watch any tv channel, or read any print media, you see pictures of Bollywood stars and trivia about the Indian celebs. I don't think MJ ever got that kind of attention in Pak.

Sir
I don't accept this opinion, my friends and I are the live examples of MJ's lovers who don't watch Indian movies. Indian movies have got nothing to do with MJ.

MJ was famous even in remote parts of Pakistan where they don't even know the name bollywood.....

MJ was an industry himself, the whole world was his fan....he rules the planet...there is no question of any influence...

shoaib_daniyal I haven't really upgraded MJ to the stature of the Beatles. I read the stats; Thriller sold more copies than any of the Beatles album. :S There are a few more comparisons as well. Even Presley's realm wasn't this way. :S It may contradict with Presley and Beatles' fans but records go this way.

Billy Jean and thriller electrifies my soul and heart, I can't help loving MJ.

I still can't believe MJ is dead.....I have been crying and I am heart broken, my love is gone forever....

My soul is tarnished with his death, I was planning to go his last concert in london ,but, alas.....

Maybe he became as popular as the Beatles but let's not upgrade that to 'great' just cos he's dead.

Yes, nb. But the point is this : a young man like MJ should bring notice to the biased healthcare funding in the western world. It is said that prostrate cancer gets half the money as breast cancer ( due to half the publicity that feminists get ).

As for MJ, he was purely a money spinner for all the females in his life. His ex-wife now wants all his money - PROVING, THAT TO THE 'MODERN' MONEY-MINDED WOMAN, THE BEST HUSBAND IS THE DEAD ONE.

I think much of Michael Jackson’s influence in Pakistan came via Bollywood. The choreographers in Mumbai acknowledge that the big, elaborate moves, fashions and dances were all “borrowed” from Michael Jackson's videos and concerts.

Famous Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan put it well when told reporters, “I officially had no training in dance and whatever I learned was by watching Michael Jackson’s videos, especially `Thriller` over and over again. I consider him as my ‘guru’. He was the real reason why I wanted to become a choreographer. What I am today is because I saw his video ‘Thriller’. It was at that moment that I wanted to take up dancing as a profession”.

Here's what happened: Billy Mays was annoyed that Ed McMahon was going to donate his liver to Farrah Fawcett, so Billy killed Ed and Farrah died when she could not get Ed's liver. Michael Jackson was outraged, he sent a Demirol pie to Billy but ate a slice to see if it worked, well it did work so Michael passed away and Billy died a couple of days later when he ate the Demirol pie. Phew!

I am deeply saddened by the death of the most unique talent the world has seen in pop music. Michael Jackson was one of the greatest music icons of the 20th Century. A true star who will never be forgotten. There will never be another Michael Jackson. He was the consumate performer and talented in ways that we have not seen since. His appeal crossed over racial lines. His influence on R&B and Pop will live forever. Thriller is one of a kind. MTV would not be what it is today if it were not for Michael. He was a music legend, an American icon, and a talented Black man. MJ loved so many in his life and was loved by all who heard his music, saw his dancing & acting, or heard him share his heart. Such great loss to so many. Such great loss for us all. Funny thing about Billie Jean...as a kid, I never really knew what it was about. I distinctly remember hearing it as an adult and having an “ah hah!” moment when I realised the underlying theme. I don’t know that I have ever been so shocked to hear of a celebrity’s death. Madonna, a fellow pop icon, said: “The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever!” He ruled entire globe through his music. Rest in Peace MJ. You will forever be an icon of music and culture. Jackson was a brilliant talent, and left behind some of the greatest pop music ever made. He was exceptional, artistic and original. He gave the world his heart and soul through his music. God Bless him.
