EMF Radiation: Prolonged Use of Cellphones

I agree with the contents of the article, but on a similar subject my biggest concern is that everybody keeps looking at cell phones but the biggest potential problem is DECT cordless phones. I bet you were not aware that they are transmitting pulsed microwave radiation 24/7 even if a call is not being made. This is because the original specification called for constant communication between the base stations and all the handsets. This failing has been addressed in some parts of Europe with the introduction of Low Radiation DECT phones. The only problem is that the industry is hiding its head under a stone and keeping it quiet.

Digital or Analog, small doess or large doses of radiation, cumulative absorption of any radiation can in one way or another affect while the rate of such affect may vary from person to person as well based on individual genetics.

Long before cell phones, personally I exercised caution in maintaining distance from microwaves ovens in operation and have recommended the same to anyone specially pregnant women, children and elderly. It is observed that when people start a microwave they normally wait by the side next to it waiting for the beep, no one knows about the condition of each oven as to whether or not it is leaking any radiation.

Similarly I commonly observe a light level rattle/buzzing through the speakers of my computer when a colleague in the proximity of my office is receiving a call on their cell phone.

The deceptiveness of the industrial giants hinders such information from reaching common consumer, and if any leaks out its rather cumbersome for everyone to understand it, discussions such as this are quite helpful to raise awareness among general public at the least some will heed if not all and this may prevent some casualties from taking place.

I am pleased to see this positive post and discussion here.

Re: # 4 The Pathophysiology research article I mentioned was published in March 2009...I guess this rules out the distinction between analog & digital cx all the phones being used these days r digital...

Plus I also found this out:
"Late Dr. Alice Stewart, a prominent researcher on the effects of microwave radiation on health believed that it is not only high doses of radiation that need to be feared. Even continuous encounters with small doses of radiation are harmful for living cells. In a seminar, she once asserted that the effects of small doses of radiation may not show up immediately because once affected, the cells take time to deteriorate, nevertheless the danger remains. She even argued that the effects may show up in the coming generations as the radiation affected cells continue to get inherited by future generations."

IN FACT, THE POSSIBILITY OF AN EPIDEMIC BRAIN CANCER BREAKING OUT IN THE FUTURE GENERATIONS DUE TO THE EMF EXPOSURE TODAY CANNOT BE RULED OUT.

A few comments:

From what I have read, it seems the earlier analog cell phones emitted significantly higher radiation than the later digital ones. This distinction may be important in drawing conclusions. Furthermore, I would not be surprised if the industry is suppressing incriminating evidence.

Recently, studies concluded that using a cell phone while driving increases the likelihood of auto accidents. Cell phone companies shot back with the following argument: Perhaps the person using the cell phone while driving is running late to a meeting and is calling to let his clients/friends know that he is running late. And since he is running late, he is speeding to catch up … thus causing accidents!

This argument eventually fizzled out … but it did buy the industry some time to sell more cell phones.

Neurologist Claims Cell Phones Caused His Brain Tumor
Neurologist Claims Cell Phones Caused His Brain Tumor

WASHINGTON, August 4, 2000 -- A Maryland neurologist has filed an $800 million lawsuit against Motorola, Bell Atlantic and others, charging that years of using a cellular phone has given him brain cancer.

Chris Newman, 41, cited a 1994 study on rats that showed breaks in DNA, a possible sign of future cancer, after the animals were exposed to radiation.

The malignant tumor was discovered in 1998 behind Newman's right ear. Attorney Joanne Suder said Newman used wireless hand-held phones several times a day from 1992 to March 1998, when the cancer was diagnosed.

The suit seeks $ 100 million in compensatory damages and $ 700 million in punitive damages.

"It's a really tough issue," said Robert Tufel of the National Brain Tumor Foundation. "We don't want to unduly alarm the public, but some of the information we have read is very compelling." The foundation recommends that people take precautions such as limiting phone time or using an ear piece to put distance between themselves and the phone "until this is resolved," Tufel said.

To try and settle lingering questions, the FDA, with funding from the cell-phone industry, is planning new studies. But those results are not due for three to five years.
The debate started in 1993 when a Florida man alleged cell-phone use caused his wife's brain tumor. Since then, scientists have studied the effects of cell-phone radiation on animals and looked at brain-tumor rates in people who used cell phones.

Brain cancer strikes about six in every 100,000 people in the United States each year.

Twenty-four hours of use equals 700 chest X-rays! Or one X-ray for every two minutes of cellphone use.

Use a speakerphone whenever possible.
