I can assume to understand what will be hard for you to imagine, so, regretfully, I can not intelligently comment on the matter. However, this article is meant to be a narrative not a personal account; it is objective, not subjective. So the character's ability to remember precisely what he went through during his childhood is not the focal point because he does not cause himself, willfully, to feel unsettled or confused. It is his quest, rather, to find meaning to his life that is the gist of the article. And that is also the theme of the article.

Well, but it would be hard to imagine people developing personalities or even remember going to school at that age. Any way, like Sarah I thought the story was incomplete in the sense it didn't lead to any conclusion. If that was intentional then, I suppose I, fail to appreciate the theme.

You are right, in that Camus is one of the influences responsible for the outcome, as it is, of this article. About it being incomplete, I can not deny that it is not otherwise. To ponder over what Heidegger once said, to attempt to accurately describe a person one has to elucidate each detail of that person's life for as long as that person was alive.
Thanks for reading.

Do let me know what about the article is unclear to you and I will attempt present a clarification. About the formative years, a significant number of psychologists agree that, it is the period in a child's life from when he/she is born until when he/she is about 3-years-old.

Your work seems to be inspired by camus..the story is incomplete some where.

Not sure I understood the story very well. Besided there are many inconsistencies like,
"Muhammad Yusuf moved to the United States at the age of 6, leaving behind a Pakistan....."
and
"...His formative years were spent in Karachi, studying in elite schools, being chauffeured in air-conditioned cars, having a few maids tend to him during the day."
