Re: # 2
Cobra...
I doubt your claim...
Afghans were already distressed and if they try to attack something, it will be US bases in Middle east and Africa....
Osama bin Laden's organization is not something Afghanistan specific....
I am happy for this US sponsored GWOT in one reason. India sufferred a lot from these semi-bedus of Pakistan and Afghanistan...It was their get back time, though some one else paid them.....

Alright TNITC, let's hear your story about 9/11.
And I never supported Bush Iraq War strategy. In fact I have talked against in every forum I went to since that happened.

#2 Cobra, how do you know who perpetrated 9/11 ? Just because the same government that told you that Iraq had WMD said so? Who are you trying to fool with this "evidence"? And don't cry crocodile tears about 9/11 because the janitor in the WTC that you roomed with got killed, cry for the over million Iraqis that Bush butchered when they had nothing to do with 9/11 even given official accounts of the event...and get some morals along the way

Cobra got #2 right. The Indians do have something to teach Pakistanis after all - to not blindly toe the terrorist line.

Re: # 1
Indeed History will take it own course as destined by the Creator.
But the lack of vision and independence of the leaders means that this History is dictated to us rather than being fashioned by us.
In the presence of such leaders and given the circumstances, the current morass seems inescapable barring the few factors I mentioned in addition to unpredictable acts of God.

Hey AfPak, Bush didn't fly into twin towers. That's the handiwork of innocent little bedu turds trained in Af by Pak's assistance. World would have been happy to ignore you bedus but you chose to leave your mark on the world.
It's your luck that you have a gutless imbecile for a eastern neighbor otherwise you would have received Uighir treatment from there also.

Irfan, I like the style of your essay and your thought process. Here is my take:
History is never on hold, it only seems so because individuals are impatient but history has slower tempo.
The equilibrium you see is temporary. Disconnect between the people and the governments are significant in Afghanistan, Pakistan and to some degree in America also. Right now the gang in Kabul is falling apart and that alone could lead to policy change.
In Pakistan, I see lot of unresolved issues and things would break when the courts decide the fate of NRO. This could lead to major reforms or back to army rule.
Regards
