Dear Kiran and Laaleen,
I have been involved with different NGO's and people for charity work around the globe. Being a Medic, I can understand the problems you guys would face and the corrupt medical/health system of Pakistan (another topic which I might write something in the future...) I with a group of Pakistani Doctor's from UK and USA travelled to Kashmir after the earthquake and recently to help the IDP's (Giving u just an idea and nothing else)
I will be very eager to help you in any way... for your cause.... I can also get you in touch with some hardworking females who would love to help you. These People have raised a lot of money for our cause/missions in the past.
I hope that your project can change the awarness level in Pakistani women.
regards

Dear Kiran,
I felt sad and disgusted reading what you wrote (i.e. a lack of corporate sponsors for promoting awareness). Please let me know when your NGO plans it's next awareness drive so that I can try to help you out with reaching sponsors. Do you have a group on facebook? We could start with that.

Laaleen, Thank you for writing this article to create awareness about Breast Cancer which is a soaring issue.
Hereby, I have a personal experience to share ... In 2006 I had come accross a lot of women who suffered from Breast Cancer. I had been working for women empowerment through different channels and NGOs on and off, so my inclination grew and I planned to organize an awareness event where young women can come and get basic knowledge from experienced doctors, surgeons, patients and survivors of Breast Cancer. So through my NGO Empowering Youth Org, we conducted a Breast Cancer Awareness Conference in Lahore.
The difficulties we faced to put this event together were surprisingly enormous and present the ignorance of supposedly responsible organizations. We planned the conference in October which is a Breast Cancer awareness month celebrated worldwide and we planned to keep it free for all women so that maximum number of women can benefit from the conference.
Our two month preparation time was really difficult as we could not get sponsors, No Fair&Lovely and No Dalda and none of the companies that promote their image so highly were ready to invest into a well planned program that catered surgeons and speakers of highest profile.
Nonetheless in the end we ended up conducting the conference at a University auditorium in Lahore and could only call speakers within Lahore.
It was a sheer struggle to put up an event that was meant to bring in awareness among women about a threatening disease.
My plea here is to those companies who spend big budgets on advertisement campaigns and airtime on TV but can't promote a true cause. Companies that display long mentions of CSR and run campaigns of women empowerment. I think its high time they get sincere because any step taken by people will be futile with funds.

111, Ahmed Saab,
:D
Btw, 111, Bob Marley died because he refused to amputate his leg--the amputation went against his Rasta beliefs. I believe even Jehovah's Witnesses refuse any form of Satanic Medical treatment as does our man, Tahir.

eleventyone #21 Herr Tahir sought residency in Germany in order to lead the simple life of the desert. No doubt he will be leaving it to Allah as he rushes to benefit from the free medical services at the German hospitals too.

"Do the thing that is required and leave the doctors, the test labs, and the pharmaceutical companies to their devices."
To test your own suggestion why don't you cut off one of your legs or arm and then let it bleed without going to a doctor to patch yourself up. Inshallah, you will be just fine :)

how can we take care even if we know, the air we breathe, the water & the food we eat has so many chemicals in it, there is no training on higene either, so many newborns suffer from defects now a days, this was not the case couple of decades ago.
we must change the environment, come up with organic way of producing food, it's time to turn around but that is not going to happen cause we continue to grow and continue to create more pollution.
I will agree with SRK, we are all about karahis and tikkas !!!

Hey everyone, thanks for your feedback, particularly Amna_L and Riaz Haq. I'm not a Dr but I did the best I could to come up with something easy-to-read and factually relevant. Please continue researching this and spreading the word :) Please also get yourselves and loved ones vaccinated-- GARDASIL, a new vaccine protects against certain types of CERVICAL CANCERS and can be given to all females ages 9-45! Every year, 300,000 women die of cervical cancer in the world.

Thanks again!

"Many of them also follow vegetarian menus rather than, say, feasting on nihari gosht and paye cooked in ghee."
You might want to remove this from your article. Vegetarianism is ridiculed by quite a bit number of Pakistanies day in day out for quite some time on Chowk. If chowk is any guide to the general behaviors in Pakistan, readers in Pakistan may not like it. -*)

In todays world, what matters, is money/propaganda power that groups of people have. I fact, the TRUTH is largely hidden beneath the massive propaganda power of these groups.
Organised religions are a classic example of brain washing.
This holds true for most of our daily living too. For example, even drug companies ONLY sponsor drugs that they can get money from. And this in turn to costlier treatments.
Women score much over men in terms of funding womens groups get. That is why health funding around the world is highly biased. The propganda power of the women groups is alarming.
This kind of propaganda is largely successful because of the low self-esteem possessed by males around the world.
HERE IS THE TRUTH :
" more men died of cancer than women in 1998 - there were 37,150 deaths from
cancer in men under 75 compared to 30,387 in women " ....

Lack of awareness about the disease is a serious issue. Coupled with the fact that discussion about the female body is a already taboo subject, it is very difficult to get women to approach doctors at an early stage.

Re: # 5 Amna_L
You are absolutely right about the jahalat bit. One saas refused to eat bread/naan baked by her daughter-in-law, who had breast cancer, because she perceived the disease was contagious. The other common attitude with us, ofcourse, is that gunahoan ki saza mil rahi ho gi(punishment for sins)...Either way, the poor woman who has the disease has a hard time of it.

Re: # 11 Parthaab
hmm interesting. Why such venom against womenkind? Is it because your mom never really loved you (u poor thing), or the woman u loved ditched u, or a combination of factors?
Oh wait, or is it because some bright woman took your medical/IT/engineering whatever seat because you got less marks than her? Your insecurity where women are concerned is astounding.
