Re: Waheed Malik

Waheed bhai, please don`t be so `demanding` of Mr. Khan. He is, after all, stating the obvious and doing so in a well written draft that flows smoothly. He is NOT making any conclusions nor presenting a thesis, just stating facts. Now for someone who is well informed, such as yourself, that may seem like a waste of time, but there are many who could learn from a sweeping glance at the total picture. I think young readers who are not fully aware of the background could learn a lot from Khan sahib`s article.

Now mind you, I am one of those few who hold the opposite view that the testing was not only not in our favor but also unnecessary, however, I don`t want to get into that debate because I realize that the majority thinks otherwise. Reasonable people can disagree about the conclusions they draw from the same set of facts, and that is quite okay. Given that I am not going to argue any more about what has already been done (i.e., N-testing) there is nothing I could find in Khan sahib`s article which should have been shot down. So what I`m trying to say is that I hope you take a more generous attitude and applaude Khan sahib for his endeavour rather than compare him to a coach-driver.

Cheer up buddy...life`s not so bad after all. Let`s make the most of it for the brief time we have left before we all get nuked out of existence.

Nicely done! I like the way critical assumptions are lurking just beneath the surface, going almost unnoticed at times.

Very informative! Your reflections on the face of Pakistan politics and politicians, their moronic policies, chest beating, mudslinging competitions at the expense of the rest of the nation &`mulk`.
Also I think the apathy of the Nation itself to all this is a real issue. I havent really come across an article/discussion regarding this.

Khan sahib, thank you for taking the time to write so comprehensive an article that is balanced and academically sound. This piece deserves a much wider publication than what it is likely to get on the Chowk. I am sending copies of it to friends in Islamabad, New York and London. Your article deserves to appear in The Economist or Newsweek etc. Once again, thank you for the great article.

HUM TOU DOOBAIN GAY SANAM...........

Nice piece that will do justice in the pages of Dawn or Indian Express. But lacks something for the Chowk

You have covered the tangibles very well.

Now for the intangibles.

Pakistan Army is a power unto itself.
Indian Army is under civilian control.

ISI and RAW.

Indian fascists/fundamentalist are almost a known quantum. Pakistan`s are not so easily identifiable.

Who controls the buttons? All the more nerve-wrecking,when we see that leadership is devoid of character.
