I share your optimism no matter how crudely argued. If not for your reasons ,this much needed CHANGE was long due .It is but natural that only army had the means to do it .I am glad that Previz Mussharaf was willing able & available to risk his life in doing this.

I only hope that there are no skeletons in Mussharafs closet as not much is known about him as yet!

Shoddy piece of writing. And it shows. Could have used a final polish.

Is there such a thing as a ``People`s Coup``.
Whether we all agree with that or not, so far
from the feedback on CHOWK, this does not appear
to be an unpopular act from the viewpoint of the
majority.
But as always we have to wonder ``What next?``

If PM (Pervez Musharraf) of Pakistan wants to
follow in the footsteps of Zia, then minds will
have to change fast.

Let us wait and see.

Ras

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

This article is nothing more than a megalomaniac fantasy ... there are far larger forces at work in the region than you tend to fantasize about.

-- China is afraid of right-wing exports of Pakistan, it will try to distance itself from a volatile Pakistan.

-- Iran no longer trusts Pakistan, and rightfully so. After supporting the Taliban, and massacres of Shias in Afghanistan and at home, Pakistan has lost its friendship with Iran.

-- Pakistani nuclear capability is, I suspect, highly overestimated. During the Pakistani nuclear tests, the small yields suggested that perhaps two or more of the blasts were failures.

-- U.S and EU will not allow anyone to de-stabilize Eurasia, and Pakistan by itself does not have that capability. An aggressive Pakistan will be pounded back into the stone age by NATO, Russia, India and China. They will gladly kill millions of Pakistanis to protect their interests.

So I strongly suggest that you wake up as soon as possible and get rid of this childish fantasy.

Re:

The quality of your article does very little credit to your Byline. It is ridiculous at worst and jingoism at the best. You base your arguments on mere assumptions of a china, iran , pak axis .

pity the lahori press

Apart from indulging in jingoism have you suggested any real solutions to the problems ...

``Pakistan is a nuclear power therefore it cannot be bullied``

Please can we grow up now.

India has twice the capability that Pakistan has

USA has many 100s over

``Poverty stricken people to prefer honorable death``

why does it always come down to that ....

We are all ready to fight and die for Pakistan and Islam but we would like to remedy our problems also.

But you are right the 1977 coup was a United States backed coup in which the entire PNA leadership sold out to the US .... and The chief of the Army staff

became the leader of the group ........

thus the a great third world leader was eliminated .... cuz his leftist inclinations and his ideas for a Unified Islamic Bloc were in conflict with the US regional interests....
