The same story was told by me by my maternal grand mother, when I was a kid, more than a decade back. I am actually from Madras, India. I am really surprised to read how people from different parts of the continent shared some common things.

Thank you all , for your messages , I was a bit knocked over by the chord the article seems to have struck with some of you but I suppose this story has a very universal appeal to it .

The day before my Uncle left Peshawar for Karachi he told this story to me and my Mother , regrettably I had some work or perhaps got a bit bored after a minute and drifted away from my Uncle ..to another room ( something which now I have the feeling he may have been annoyed with , although he was that kind of man that he would never say ) an hour or so after he had finished the story , my mother came to me and told me the story ..I later went to my Uncle and told him what a wonderful story it was , ....the next day he was

leaving ..and again stuck for time..I could`nt meet him ..I did manage to call him though ( he had gone to my Grandparents home to say goodbye )

and I told him how sorry I was for not meeting him ..and then he said to me ..what were his last words to me he said ``It`s ok sonny ..One can tell how much one likes someone and what one means to someone ..`` ..

4 months later ..I had just arrived from abroad ..and got the news that they had brought his body in from Karachi ..although I rushed as fast as I could I did not get too see his face before he was buried ...that was 43 days ago ..and like I said ..this seemed the best tribute ..

The whole world, good and bad, large and small, is in each one of us. The fault(s) dear Brutus lies not in our stars (or others) but in ourselves... Good story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Dear Author:

No doubt a symbolic tale!

It is very hard to overcome the loss of ones dear ones. May God grant peace to your uncle`s soul.(Ameen)

Apart from the moral, such tales stay with us forever. Probably that is part of our upbringing. I am sure you will never forget this and will enlighten many others to come. And that is how these fascinating tales carry over the message of human goodness, animal wisdom, mysteries from generation to generation.

Thanks for bringing forth a classic from the readings/memory of your elders.

A timely story, i wish more people could talk in parables. I do hope that this story is not true for pakistan, after accusing every one in power of corruption, it is time to create an exception.

I, in fact wrote a small article about the chief of pakistan,`` A reluctant dictator``, i believe it is true.
