Thanks Nauman Khalid for posting a very upbeat article about the next generation. Over the weekend I attended a Graduation ceremony at a prestigious University. I had the opportunity to talk to a large number of just graduated desi youths. I was so glad to find out that each and every one of them, including my niece, had a pretty decent jobs lined up, at the well known corporations in the US. I congratulate all the graduates and wish a brighter future for all desi youths. I am confident that the youths back home are as brighter as desi youths abroad--they only need decent opportunities to reveal their true potential.

Many many years back, a young poetess, named Parveen Shakir, recited her ghazal at a mushaira, and virtually ``mushaira loot liya`` with a verse which goes something like,

Jugnoo ko din ke waqt parakhney ki zidd karaiN

Bacchey hamarey ehad key chalaak ho gaye

Naumann:

Welcome!

You say, “ It is through the use of the digital media that the N-Generation will develop and superimpose its culture on the rest of society.” And “Few technologies are value free. ”

Since you are there I would like to ask you a few questions re: cultural changes.

There is a quantum difference between Net-accessibility and external (direct or satellite) TV-accessibility, not only for children but I presume for the adults also in Pakistan. And to boot the latter is accessible nation wide.

What is the cultural impact of this ‘invasion’ or ‘intrusion’? Is it discernible? Is it good or bad? How does it effect upon the moderate islamist agenda? How does it effect upon the fascist islamist agenda?

I would really be interested in hearing from anyone who is there .

regards
