I don`t know whether to laugh or to cry. If an iota of this imaginary interview is true, then Allah help Pakistan! How do you fix a system that allows someone like MH to become head of Pakistan`s internal security, intelligence units, police, and paramilitary forces? Is Pakistan really that hopeless a country?
#4 Posted by Assad_K on May 17, 2000 11:45:38 pm
So, as far as I can tell, this article is motivated solely by MH denying quotations that were attributed to him by a magazine (though I may well have missed some nuances).
Ohhhh-kay..

i dont think MH deserves this. it`s generally better to aim before you fire.

Here is an e-mail I received some 10 days back from a nephew studying in the US. He seems to have met a guy who is a soulmate of General MH.
{There`s this dude here, Kaleem, who once tried to convert me to Islam. Anyway, this guy is a typical hypocritical Muslim, and seems to suffer
from a serious condition that prevents him from differentiating cause and effect.
Once, he was gazing out the window of his office, staring at scantily clad co-eds, and he turned to me, and said ``American women should be forced to wear burqas. A man cannot control himself if they are like this``.
How this makes any sense is beyond me. Perhaps you could enlighten me, or better yet, come up with a decent rejoinder.}
I of course sent him my proposal for the Electronic Islamic Blinkers.

I`m wondering why the need to include the clippings in this piece that really had little to do with Osama-- or indeed with MH himself.
Shiraz, if the intention was to be completely satirical, it might have been accpetable humour. However, this blending of ``fact`` and fiction is unfair because it blurs the line between the two.
And while you`re pointing out the hypocrisy of Islamic views on women, perhaps you could tell us why your girlfriend can`t go topless to the beach while you can. (What`s at the heart of the `decency` arguments? What`s the history behind them?)

I fail to understand what prompted Mr. Shiraz to rant against Moinuddin Haider and his views on Women, Islam and Rape. Poking fun at a man who at no time expressed the kind of views on the subjects mentioned above, is in extremely BAD taste. Tsk... tsk..

Mr. Kahani Baaz,
Next time you try to write an article dont miss your dose of Prozac.
By the way ecstacy and and Prozac is a bad mix.
Be good

My ladki -dost (gf) can go topless on a beach ? where is my garl friend? what does she look like when she is topless ? and which beach is she on ? I demand to know right about ... now! and this is not an request soldier.
``(What`s at the heart of the `decency` arguments? What`s the history behind them?)``
uhh ... ummm what are you talking about? I am a little slow if you haven`t figured that out already. I never use `decency` ``argument`` Mr. PM anywhere in all my work. Infact this word (which for those of you who do not know, means : ummm aaahm wait let me look it up ... there: it says look up PROPRIETY - so I assume it has to do with property; and you know real estate and interest rates and financial things make me very clueless)
``aim before you fire`` -Reply #: 5
The last time I did that I almost had an anxiety attack from the knowledge that I may have become god (and created life) Is it any wonder the Christians call their god ``father``. Chilling idea.

I cannot BELIEVE that my ``jot me downs`` are actually being read and applauded (in this case trashed really ) by my own people - my own fellow Pakistanis. Now hopefully I won`t be the only one all depressed about the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and all * * * * * about the women of the Islamic Republic.
Although the heading : Interview with Interior Minister MH. . . _real or imaginary?_ was LAME and not my idea.

Godot #3 Lighten up, pal. This is a joke (and pretty funny too).

``And the women in Pakistan would rather die than be saved by the likes of you Solitude!``
I never said anything about ``Saving`` anyone. What I tried to say in Reply #: 12 (but was most rudely censored as usual) was I am h- o- r- n- y for the women of my country (and I hope they are h_ o_ r_ n _y for me too)
By the these same very articles were once rejected by the chowk editors. But I re submitted them a few months later and voila! Now you see my surprise.
Thank you everyone (with the exception of the very mean) [ *bowing * *bowing *] I plan to write better (actually I do write better - it just never gets approved by chowk). Harimau thanks for the anecdote - I live for those ``kahanis``.
Thank you to all those who thought it was funny. I have funnier more insightful pieces but they are not getting approved by chowk ... maybe if you all voted to make the chowk staff relinquish control of the website to me perhaps - I know I am asking for a lot but it would help my art
