I am unable to understand your logic so far.
There have been massive migration of Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs at the time of partitition.
After early 50`s when things settled, there has been slow migration on both sides of border.
If Hindus have migrated more, it may be due to economic necessity. As East Bengal and West Pakistan provided not much economic opportunity.
There has been no forced conversion as far as I can recall. Nor is it possible.
If non-Muslims have been converted to Islam in large numbers, I am also unaware of it. Becuase even one or two family conversion is so prominent for the satisfaction of Mullah under whose hands those people embraced Islam.
Moreover till Hazrat Zia-ul-Haq became president Pakistan was ruled by drinkers all along who were least interested in Islam. Your statistics are showing the same time period when decline in Hindu population occurred.
Now you are presenting a theory to JUSTIFY THE CRIMES done to minorities in your country in the name of secularism and democracy which has no basis.
At least substantiate your arguments with evidences.
You are talking about millions of people and not 10,s or hundreds.
If Hindus like probably my ancesstors converted to Islam and find it reasonable what is the problem with you.
Have you copyrighted Hinduism as the sole religion of sub-continent.
Tell me if caste system is Hinduism or not. Tell me if Sati is Hinduism or not. Tell me if Shudra or Dalit is Hinduism or not.
You are not clear yourself on your religion. And if people leave your religion you are making a hue and cry.

[There is no single incidence of forced conversion in Pakistan.]
A scan of recent papers will show a case where the head mistress of a school in Sind claimed that a Hindu girl had converted to Islam, the girl was spirited away from school, was married to a Muslim against her will and the parents were denied access to the girl.
This is VOLUNTARY conversion in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Go back to your padded cell.

Is converting to Islam a sin.
There is no single incidence of forced conversion in Pakistan.
You are making up stories to justify the crimes in your country in the name of democracy and secularism.

hmmm...on the one hand, freaks like ali and company are condemning female infanticide, and on the other hand, they`re calling each other `pimps` and `pedophiles` and other negative terms based on women and children.
this kind of vile male hypocricy is disgusting to say the least.
what have Chowk interactions stooped to?

YLH, you never seem to address the real question of why the percentages of Hindu population dropped so drastically whereas the percentage of Muslim population in fact rose.
I am not saying you guys killed the Hindus. I am just saying they were forced to convert to Islam because they had no other choice in an Islamic country.

I wonder how the air marshal`s conscience reacts. He was the guy Ayub Khan sent on a shopping spree to China, Indonesia, and Turkey on the eve of the 1965 war according to his autobiography `The First Round`.
Have you noticed how so many men of arms, at retirement, find the `peace on earth` syndrome?

RE # 757 Uncle-Tom Singh
Not ONE word to condemn the infanticide in Punjab. Shame on you Baigharat Singh. It seems like you have grown up on fairytales about the noble and brave Sikh nation and the reality is too ugly and cruel for you.
Your personal insults are ignored as usual. You are a one-trick pony anyways.... your insults are insipid and dense like your self.

``Any country which can have a minister like Uma Bharati should be ashamed calling itself secular!``.
ylh,
I personally do not like people like Uma Bharathi who are high on rhetoric with nothing much to show. If they also have a hidden agenda,we need to be doubly careful. But my dear friend, this is what democracy is about. We get to see the good, bad and ugly in democracy. We tolerate it because it is what the majority wants,at least for the time being. Uma Bharati has to answer to her constituency when she seeks re-election. The question then would be what she has done in her 5 years as a minister for the people of her constituency. This will decide if she gets reelected or not.
Two other people i think India can do without are the Bihar C.M Lallu Yadav and Tamil Nadu`s Amma (as Jayalalitha, the Imeldo Marcos of India,is called in those parts). The picture of a Lallu Yadav sitting cross-legged on a charpai, chewing a betel nut, surrounded by sycophants and IAS officers with notebook and pen ready at hand,is intolerable to me. Again,we have to respect the wishes of people of Bihar. They see in him some virtues that are not apparent to others like me and keep re-electing him.
Tamil Nadu`s Amma is corrupt beyond words. What do the people of that state see in her. She should by now have become history, but there she is even today dreaming a come-back.
Democracy allows choices that are not always wise or correct. The good thing however is there is scope for correction and with a free press, learning from past mistakes. Such choices are not available say in a dictatorship, however bening it may be.

dost-mittar,
Thanks for your kind words. I just try to correct what i see as misconceptions or attempts at mis-information in the chowk. Sometimes these misconceptions are indoctrined and at other times out of sheer ignorance. Access to knowlege is easy in the era of IT and computers. Access to right kind of knowledge is not easy though. If i or someone else does not correct these mistakes, silence would be taken as weakness or worse still agreement to these misconceptions.
Regards,
sridhar

ali1 #726 Harpreet is one of the most reasonable people I have come across on chowk (I say this based on earlier interactions). I have not followed your earlier discussion with him, but if at the end you have been unable to establish any kind of a dialogue with him (and insulting remarks of the type in your email do not constitute a dialogue) then I think the problem is with you, not him.

[Let us not deny that there has been considerable migration of the Indian Muslims to Pakistan. If you expect the entire 120 Million of them to migrate because of persecution then you obviously havent graduated High School.
A number of around 15 to 20 Million Indian Muslims have over the last 53 years moved to Pakistan and this sir is substantial. Were you just born yesterday?]
Then why do you strenuously deny that Pakistani Hindus have either been forced to migrate to India or convert to Islam if they want to stay on in Pakistan?
The door to Pakistan was shut in 1954. So much for a home for the subcontinent`s Muslims.
Anyway, the only ones queueing up for a visa to Pakistan are those who have family there. There is no Pakistani ``green card`` for Indian Muslims.
[Salman Rushdie`s family lived in Bombay untill they moved to Pakistan in 1964... they were not that religious and probably also opposed to Partition but why did they move to Pakistan then?]
Oh kid, you HAD to dig this hole for you to fall into, didn`t you? I feel so sorry for you. Because, for the Salman Rushdie Family that you have, we have Jinnah`s grandson himself. Who knows, if he had lived another two years, Jinnah himself might have moved back to Bombay!
[You people are good at Mock Tough Rhetoric but real numbers scare you.]
So tell us: how many million Hindus were forcibly converted to The True Faith in Pakistan? How many million Hindus were killed in East Pakistan by the Pakistani Army? How about some real numbers concerning these?

Studebaker,
To the best of my knowledge, not all Muslims think of DhulQunanyn as Alexandar, though My personal belief is that it was.
