Also, please clarify if your billi has a husband or a boyfriend. If not, please check and report back if she will accept chowk`s resident billi-khor, rsexena, as her life partner?

MaheshG,
No friend, I didn`t intentionally cut our discussion short. It`s a matter of having no time and energy on my part, and the desire to avoid redundancy.
Everyone values the right to self-determination, so do Kashmiris. I don`t pretend to be an intellectual political analyst like many do on Chowk, so my stance on this issue is very simple.
And I have reiterated this stance numerous times.
Right now, I`d like to take a rain check on this issue, if you don`t mind.
Hain aur bhi ghum zamanay main, Kashmir kay sivah.

Glad to be of assistance :D
By the way, do you have a real billi? I have been meaning to write something on that, but due to the serious nature of certain issues that I wanted to address first, I could not come back to the billi point. But do you really have a billi at home ? What color? Does it stay outside or inside ? Were you serious about the cat? Or you were kidding? Please Clarify.
Take Care

Are you sure you want to send tourists to dine in Gujurat? Once they taste all the food with sugar in it, they`ll never come back to India again ;)

EXPLAINING TO AN INDIAN FRIEND,
So finally the truth about kashmir is reavealed in the deafening silence. The indiginous freedom fighters, fighting against the oppression of the indian army have gone, gone to fight another war. At last the silent proof, the proof with out words has arrived, the truth about kashmir, yes, it is a problem of the jihadic frontier. Nothing to do with kashmir.

“Hatred? Inside moi? “
….si, tu…..well maybe hatred’s too strong a word….then again maybe not…
“So, who told the UN relief organization to leave Afghanistan? Who arrested the head of the UN relief organization? Who has shut down the scools in Afghanistan? Who, in spite of the drought, are invading remote villages with the idea of conquest? The Talibam, that is who. The students of -- a drum roll please -- ISLAM!”
….good Lord above….how many times must it be said that what the taliban are doing is in accordance to THEIR version (perversion) of islam….read the Koran (actually, don’t)….where in it does it say to shut down schools? invade villages and kill/hurt/arrest innocent civilians? close down relief organizations?…sheesh…
and as much as you’d like to think that the taliban are soley pakistan’s frankenstien, it was done with the blessing/backing of the cia….and the gop is reaping the bitter harvest of what it help sow…

If you are going to Amdavad this time then Vishala Village restaurant, CTF, Dairy Den, Choice Pizza are highly recommended for food. CG Road is 5 miles of delight - make sure you go there and dont forget the largest drive in cinema in Asia and the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar.
As for Bombay I am sure you will enjoy what with meeting Farzana and all :)

Btw, congratulations. I see from Aisha Sarwari’s board that you have now become 13 (or is it 14) head Maharaj – although you also seem to have confused your position.

The good guy again
By Khalid Mahmood Rasool
BEAUTY lies in the eyes of the beholder. Very seldom have I seen a better application of this adage than the last few days.
It was not too long ago, that Pakistan was almost a rogue state. An irresponsible country, which was incapable of handling its affairs properly. In a growing world of democracy, it is led by an army general. In a growing peaceful world it is considered a troublemaker for its neighbors. Its economy is in shambles yet it endeavored to become a nuclear power. Its record of human rights has been dismal. Though its foundations are getting weaker but fundamentalists here are getting stronger.
It was after almost two decades that any US President decided to cruise the subcontinent. Despite all efforts and recounting of our previous services, Bill Clinton only graced us with his presence for five hours viz -a- viz five days in the wonderland of an emerging market for US companies. And what an appearance he made. No public photograph with a military ruler.
Not too long ago, an elected Prime Minister traveled far to the land of freedom and civilization. He was made to beg for a photo session with the US President and to seek forgiveness for his Kargil blunder.
Slightly before that, we happened to become a nuclear power. Soon we were declared persona non grata with many world countries and as many forums. The US slapped sanctions to punish us, as if the previous punishments were not enough. Its allies were also quick to follow. And why not, this is what allies are all about.
A little later, we had change of government, not a caretaker but a permanent one, with full scale monitoring from the commanders offices, monitoring teams, intelligence agencies and later cemented with devolution of power! We again became a bad guy.
It was in the beginning of nineties, that a few US senators suspected Pakistan of developing nuclear capability. Hence, the Pressler amendment came into being. And what a powerful amendment it was that it made the US President ineffective. At times he was in a good mood to forego the sanctions but this legal hiccup held him back. No wonder, the F16 aircrafts planes remained parked at some US bases despite their full payment made by a country always on the borrowing list of every conceivable donor institution of the world.
The US President was so helpless that even he could not waive the parking fee charged for these planes. It was after many years` hectic diplomatic efforts and bold acceptance of the men in uniform that we got the balance payment with deduction of parking fee etc through a useless and unnecessary loan for wheat import. A good deal for a bad guy indeed.
Such a bad guy he was! But now, no more. He is now a dam good guy. He is cooperative, helpful and almost a trustworthy ally. Its leadership is visionary and capable of skillfully handling delicate global issues and earn kudos for its unconditional support for anti-terrorism campaign. Its people are not that bad either. A few are fanatics but look there is a huge majority of moderates as well. In the strike call last Friday, it was less than ten percent people who participated. So it proves the point that a military government is as popular as an elected government. Incidentally, approval rating of President Bush is historically high at 90 percent and so is that of his counterpart after the failed strike on Friday. This is what BBC and CNN has informed us though not as a breaking news but as sort of a big reason to applaud the government.
After this huge approval rating, reward was due and it was quickly delivered. The US President has abolished the sanctions imposed after the irresponsible nuclear test. He has hinted to us that we may be a strong candidate for many other sanctions to go and reward with some monetary benefits, sort of rescheduling of loans, new loans or even some write-offs. Market access is also being talked about.
Look at the media where we never got a mention except in news on bomb explosions, honor killing, human right violations and safe havens for fundamentalists. But now suddenly we have turned such good guys that no news program is complete without appreciation for us.
The Minister of Finance was shown looking happy on TV explaining the economic benefits of lifting US sanctions that it would open up the way for American investment. The country`s frail economy would have a kick start again. Very seldom is a Finance Minister is so right! We have hordes of Americans coming to our land. They are eager to use our airports, ports and even airspace. They are also eager to forge alliance with our armed forces not to mention their other zealous fervor to help Pakistan`s economy. They have even expressed their desire to make Pakistan their second home if Pakistan can offer enough room to place their equipments.
Two decades ago one Pakistani ruler thanked Afghanistan for longevity of his rule. Afghan brothers obliged us then and now again. Thanks you both - America and Afghanistan!
