Reply Hobbyty, Dost-Mittar, anybody else
Hey - if LK Advani is accused of a crime, he should definitely go to court and either clear his name or pay his debt to society.
I am all for LK Advani going to court to face this charge. And if he committed the crime in what is now Pakistan, and the courts in that part of Pakistan are fair and unbiased, then he should be tried in Pakistan.
Any other Indians agree with me?
Just think, it would set a good precedent for other parliamentarians in India and Bangladesh. (And Pakistan, in time.)
I am even thinking of starting a Send Advani To Karachi fund. Who would contribute?

re urstruly 119
Would one of you Hindu/Indian/Kanjars/Brahmins etc provide Mullah Urstruly with a fax no. for PM VAjpayee and George Fernandes? He seems to have all the answers to the Kashmir problem that fifty years of Indian democracy and fifty years of Pakistani martial law never even contemplated.
Funny how they talk at length about the brutalization of Kashmiri women but are mum on the rape of 200,000 Bengali women in 1971 by folks who later became governors and senators.
re Shammi
Thanks for the pointer to mullah sahib. Hey, if it makes him feel better to classify people by their race and creed, cut the man some slack. Sometimes imagined epithets are all insecure people have to argue with: don`t take that away from mullah sahib.
re Urstruly
Feel free to call me Bengali, for I am quite comfortable being so. But cut out the nonsense about how inspiring Bengalis are to you and all that. Nobody believes that stuff from you and thus it is no use wasting your integrity on such an exersize of belabored political correctness.

Bengali
I knew that you wouldn`t mind me calling you Bengali, heaven forbids its not like calling you names or something.
I found this interesting:
``Funny how they talk at length about the brutalization of Kashmiri women but are mum on the rape of 200,000 Bengali women in 1971 by folks who later became governors and senators.``
Now, since you know the pains, I hope you will speak against this attrocity against Kashmiri women. But you never do. I wonder why. Is it because you are a bengali?

`` reiterate the amount of PATRIOTISM on this board is pathetic. In EVERY S. ASIAN issue, do not most People support their own countries INVARIABLY?``
DRUMZ, IMHO its a combination of two things. 1. staking out territory much like baboons and our other cousins do though more hygenically 2. a vaudeville act with no audience but still one guy bashes in anothers head on a daily basis and thinks he is doing a good job :)

Re Advani
Yes, take Advani and give us Musharraf, no problem.
But seriously, it seems the Pakistani authorities are confusing international affairs with adolescent capers.
The Pakistani govt. has achieved nothing with making a `case` for Advanis extradition except public embarrassment for its supporters in the US government who are now face with mediating on behalf of one country which demands the home minister of another country in return for extraditing known criminals with interpol red notices in their name.
The Pakistani government have only handed Jaswant Singh and co additional opportunities to be sarcastic and give Powell a red face when next he phones up Indians to canvass Musharraf`s `sincerity`and need for mutual trust.
Hence using the touchstone question so favorite with conspiracy theorists namely who benefits?, one can conclude that the case against Advani was brought out by a secret RAW agent.

Sadna
The joke of the day was your use of the phrase ``adolescent capers``.
It reminded me of Manheim Began of Isreal who was once wanted and then convicted in absentia for a terririst attack on the King David hotel in London. The guy was given a Nobel Peace prize later.
I have a feeling that advani will be rewarded one day for his relentless efforts as well; the ``efforts``, you know, wink wink.

The article points out that Advani is wanted in connection with a criminal act of attempted Murder.
Are you aware of an FIR being filed seeking Mr. Musharraf for any particular criminal act? If you are, some people in Pakistan and a good many in India, I suspect, will be very pleased if you publicized it.
On the piece on Qutb - How are you relating his experience to me? What, in the substance of his experience and the substance of my call for Pluralism, tolerance, and freedom of conscience are similar? It`s important for not just both us but others to understand your reasoning.

Dangerous electricity poles
A few months back, while returning from a domestic trip, I noticed that the 80 feet lighting pole on the corner of the road linking the airport with Sharea Faisal had been hit by some vehicle and was tilted in a very dangerous position. I was expecting that it would be attended to promptly, keeping in view the danger it posed to the general public and also its location. But even after three months no action has been taken. from dawn of today
END PEACE
Romair, is it possible that a pakistani A7 jet could have hit the pole while landing. Your comments will. I am sure will be scholarly , as usual.
regards
YLH

SCHOLARSHIP IN PAKISTAN
Pakistan is a unique country, a nobel prize winner can be declared unmentionable because of his religion and the educated applaud it by their silence. Years of education does not count for anything in pakistan, it is a jungle out there and each corrupt one is seeking the mind of the other.
Look at religion. The mullahs have spent a life time learning the book. Jihad is an important aspect of islam. Mullahs all over the world are teaching the kill version of it.
The miltary man, mushy, who hardly spent a day in religious education is telling that jihad is some kind of do good aspect of religion. Each and every pakistani on chowk have extended the jihad to every aspect of noble human endeavour except what the mullah is talking about.
No mullah in pakistan including the potential peace prize winner asghar has ever talked of a jihad other than the kill version.
It is time that pakistanis accept scholarship. May be abdus salam is a bad example, he was an idi, but how about asghar, he has spent a life time of learning the book, take heed, recognise scholarship, learn what is jihad.
Leave interpretation of religion to the scholars, as rest of the mankind does.

Pak accuses Advani of plotting to kill Jinnah
(read http://www.rediff.com/news/2002/jan/30adv.htm)
Pakistan has accused Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani of being involved in a conspiracy to assassinate Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan and then governor general, Pakistan daily The News reported.
The list of criminals that Pakistan has handed over to India also has the name of the home minister, the report said.
Funny,na...digging up old graves at a time when we should be solving real problems facing the two nations at this time.
First Madhuri(remember ``Madhuri dede,Kashmir lele``), then Thackrey and now Advani! When will it all end?!

Zafar #170 (think)
Start the fund and I will contribute my $$ as well.
I am sure Advani will make a wonderful man to have in the dock in Pakistan. That will make India`s day - imagine the coup - India can then demand that the following be sent to India for trial - Mushy Baby (kargil et al), all the ISI bods for crimes against Indians etc.
Apart from that Advani will open all the old wounds and I am sure who will come on top.
Pakistan will not know what to do?
India should call Pakistan`s bluff and start the proceedings for advani to go to Pakistan for trial.
