You are one lucky dude. Have you seen what Waheeda Rehman has done to herself lately?

Totapuri mango pretending to be Alphonso during bad hair day for mango season.

whatever.

Shukar hay kisi nay to Parveen Shakir ko yaad kiya. She is my favorite poet. This was good, but I have to agree the ending was abrupt. Leaves one yearning for more. ``Kaff-e-aaina`` mein Parveen Shakir ki aik ghazal ka pehla shair aap ki situation pay poora utarta hay:

Waqt-e-rukhsat aagaya, dil phir bhi ghabraya nahi

Usko hum kya khoein gay jisko kabhi paaya nahi

Zindigi jitni bhi hay ab mustaqil sehra mein hay

Aur is sehra mein tera door tak saaya bhi nahi

Regards,

Kiran

p.s: part ii of this journey would be a nice idea.

Rehan,

Would you know when registration for your course begins and in what department is it listed? Film studies? Cultural Studies? South Asian Studies?

Am looking forward to taking it!

anNy..thank you luv. Good to see you`re still around..and I see that you have the same article posted twice, while mine just seem to end up in the dung heap. *laugh *

And Bijli ji..At first I thought it best to respond to you by not responding at all, but I can`t resist. I may be an old woman but believe me I DO think young! Now if you`re a thinking person, tell me, what does my admiration for classic Indian cinema, and its heroines, or the new Indian cinema and its heroines have to do with my chronological age?!? The logic escapes me. :)

Karakoram brings up a good point about Shakir`s verses being about Kalpana. I had missed that connection. But given what Faiz, among others, has alluded to, namely that `the true subject of poetry is the loss of the beloved, her lyrics can be applied to Rehan`s loss, the untimely loss of Shakir herself, as well as the loss of memory and connection related to Partition. That`s what makes this piece so poignant and beautiful for me.

God if he exists -- help us frlm imbeciles and wannabes such as Mr. Ansari.

A few dollars earned on the street and he is laboring us to death

Ansarisaab;

That was nice if only a bit abrupt at the end. I don`t know about her earlier movies but Waheeda Rehman was devastating in Gulzar`s ``Namkeen``. Actually everyone in that haunting film was. . .

Incidentally, a curious way to remember someone, for the forgotten scent of a beautiful moment. At the risk of sparking off a riot, I wonder how many people would like to be remembered that way, the stuff of boyhood dreams?

Regards,

Aamir

Rehan # 17

Chursi`s are people too. Some of them quite
intelligent actually. Prefer them over....

One interesting article from the Indian Press
that just has to be read, not for what it says but for what it does not...

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Articleshow.asp?art_id=10007801

A Chursi would never have written it.

Ras

Well, Actually now I took the time to read this article, and I must say, it was uncharacteristically refreshing piece of work by Rehan Ansari... I enjoyed it a lot .. really.

Sorry about the earlier comment... you know rehan whenever I see your name, a conditioned response ticks in.. and your unshaven uncouth chursi face completely skews my judgement momentarily.

I liked this...well-worded. Had to get references on who Parveen Shakir & Waheeda Rehman were but overall, good writing. Abrupt ending, however, does leave a bit to be desired. :)

Utter garbage although usual and expected from Rehan Ansari. Earlier he defiled Abdullah Hussain, now its the late Parveen Shakir`s turn. Bhai, aap Urdu ko maaf kyon nahi kar detay?
