Thanx to all the ppl for giving their valuable comments. I want to acknowledge the contribution of my very good friend Afzal Khan Shinwari for helping me in writing this article.

Do you think that imparting education to the less privileged lot around the world in such an unconventional manner would do any good in bringing them on track and make them competitive enough to progress alongside the ones who have spent their entire lives sharing, acquiring and furthering knowledge with the more universally accepted means of learning?

Bilal,
you write: ``Off (sic) course, it will have to be determined what really is the basic objective of e-education: is it to provide high level, scientific education to people so that they can get PhD’s; or is it to uplift the global literacy rate and educational awareness on a large scale?``
Well, let`s put it this way... if it is higher education that leads one to write in this somewhat haphazard, often redundant and disjointed style, then I suppose that argues for the latter option.
On the other hand, if it is that higher education that is responsible in any way for the rightminded approach you take and admirable interest you show on this issue, well, it`s going to remain a debateable issue. :)
Thanks for highlighting this important issue. Just wish you didn`t write the first two-thirds as if this were part of a (bad) doctorate thesis. The `Idea` is great, and well presented too!
rgds,
PM
P.S. Welcome to Chowk! Developing a thick skin helps around here :)

True.

Pakistan`s Virtual University is a step towards achieving that.(hopefully!)

However, with our habit of faking everything esp. degrees, online education still might be a thing of the not-so-near-future.(ref:Dr. Isa Daudpota`s article on Fake Degrees)

Besides, I graduated from UK this year and having my degree evaluated here from the Higher Education Commission is such a pain that I can`t tell you, and I can`t imagine how cumbersome would it be to have an online degree evaluated/attested here!
