PAKISTANI LOGIC

Chinese split units hit local AC industry

By Nasir Jamal

LAHORE, May 19: Several hundred workers employed by three window air-conditioner manufacturers of the country may lose their jobs because of an increased influx of the low-cost Chinese split units that have almost wiped out the demand for the former.

``Our production of window air-conditioners has dropped to 5,000 units this year from 30,000 only two years ago due to the drastic fall in the rates of the split air-conditioners. It`s obvious that we may be forced to shut down window air-conditioner facility next year, and retrench labour if the situation does not change,`` says PEL`s General Manager (Manufacturing) Homaeer Waheed

///wELL, obviously Jamil Omar is an activist, he is concerned about the flow of money to the US through KFC royalty. The ilks of tahmed and other economists of pakistani persuations have weighed in. Even chowk felt it is a worthy cause.
Above is a news item from dawn, and no one, none of the experts of pak economics would dare to say anything about the pak industry being distroyed by chinese imports.
The reason is not hard to find, US is against islam, Jamils KFC fight and the laskers killings in kashmir come from the same mind set. Protesting against china, saving pak jobs, no no, it will never cross the minds of the children of TNT, china well, the mullahs are not against them, and hence why should tahmed be.

Some points for your information:

1. Honor killing is not part and parcel of Pakhtoon society. But it is of Sindhi and Punjabi rural society.

2. If you have to point fingers at Pakhtoon society then do so on another gross cruelty - personal vendettas. The family feuds continue for ages.

Seems like Pakistan and India score evenly on this gross human right violation:

Read about rising number of dowry deaths in India at:
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/jul2001/ind-j04.shtml

Read about the rise of Honor killings in Pakistan at:
http://edition.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/south/12/11/pakistan.women/

Also please get your info right on Deobandi and Wahabi schools of thought. Perhaps some learned Pakistani / Indian Muslim could shed some light on the schools of thought of Islam.

`` In the mid-90s the Saudis decided to put curbs on Indian Hindus working in the Kingdom. They only wanted to encourage Indian Muslims. The Indian Government categorically told them that this policy is not acceptable. At the most, Saudi Arabia could employ Indian Muslims in the same proportion as they constitute India`s population. Saudi`s objected to it. India retaliated by threatening that if Saudi Arabia applied this policy, they would buy oil from other markets. The Saudis backed down and the whole thing fizzled out. Since India was economically able to do it, it made the point noted.``

`` On dowry death penalty in India that you have mentioned, could you please gude me to a website? I am sure that the penalty you have mentioned is a far eastern model that has been discussed at length for implementation in the social and legal circles of both India and Pakistan with complete failure.

Besides, dowry deaths are on the increase in India, which goes to prove that its the Indian culture that will be difficult to get rid of for a while. Ditto honor killings in Pakistan.``

Dowry deaths have no historical precedent. It cuts across religious lines. My parents and grandparents marriages were not decided on the basis of dowry. I doubt if you will find dowry deaths 50 years ago. I guess 50 years ago a Indian man could dump his wife and marry another female without any legal problems. Killing a women for lack of dowry is murder. There is nothing in the Indian penal code to suggest otherwise. To the degree people go scot free. It reflects on society and law enforcement.

Honour killings are a part and parcel of Pusthun culture for time yonder. It is not that Pusthuns are a barbaric bunch. A lot of societies that used to practise it have abandoned it. Pusthuns have not abandoned it. Blame it on the Deobandi/Wahabi crap of Islam practised and pushed by sections of the Pakistani establishment. Countries as diverse as Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Yemen have problems with honour killings. In some of these countries it would not be considered a crime. Most non-Islamic societies like India, Japan, China have moved away from such practises.

I try to reply almost all posts as much as possible. But most of the posts are written with an intention to discuss my personality etc.

I know about me very well, as a matter of fact I have been living with myself, 24/7, since the day I was born. So that doesn`t interest me much. I am kinda bored of myself.

Urstruly at # 73:

If I read you correctly then you are subscribing to my viewpoint at post # 1. I suggested applying boycotts selectively. For example, we boycott the products of the companies that we found are helping Zionists or America`s expansionist policies. Theoretically, this strategy would make sense, except that our ability to hurt such businesses is really limited at this stage.

Let me explain you this through a real life example.

In the mid-90s the Saudis decided to put curbs on Indian Hindus working in the Kingdom. Since India was economically able to do it, it made the point noted.

And to reiterate, American Franchise businesses in Pakistan are a win-win success story.

1. Pizza Hut opened up in Pakistan in 1993. The outlets are owned by the people who are also in the medicine import business. For the many years, the Pizza Huts in Pakistan were its Asia`s top money making outlets.

2. Although when its first franchise opened up in Karachi there were queues some 2 miles long stretching from Nipa Roundabout to up to Gulshan Roundabout, KFC had a bad beginning. This was attributable to mass corruption in its property acquisition department, poor selection of 16 sites acquired at over-prices. By 1998, i.e. within 3 years of its opening in Pakistan, two managements had changed. Eversince then, the franchise has made a tremendous turnaround.

3. McDonalds has provided employment opportunities to many good looking, well versed in English, school going boys and girls. besides, its franchise in Lahore (Gulberg) has a large playing area that caters to the kiddies who come to play and get toys and in the process eat too as a bonus.

I personally believe that till this point of time, the American businesses in Pakistan are doing more for us than we are doing for them.

ajeet #75 i would only add that I am appalled at the lack of concern for the welfare of the Pakistani investors and workers in these fast food chains that urstruly and sopher demonstrate. I have already discussed this further below, and being unable to challenge the facts they simply ignored it.

For urstruly to compare labor negotiations of UAW with the harassment of investors in Pakistan simply indicates his ignorance in these matters, in addition to the lack of concern for the welfare of Pakistanis now that he is comfortably sitting in Detroit.

Countries (at least those who know their self-interest like the US, UK, China, Russia etc.) the world over fall over one another to attract investment capital. Fools (or quite likely, individuals paid to create trouble by rival restaurant owners who cant compete in quality of service) like Sopher think pakistanis are doing the fast food chains a favor by letting them into Pakistan. The fact is that of the trillions of dollars of investment capital available, the amount coming into Pakistan (or even India, which also has a similar arrogant attitude to the foreign investor) is not even loose change. The US attracts $500 billion of capital every year, and even so individual states set up offices in other countries to promote themselves as ``investor friendly states``. In Pakistan, we have LOCAL investors being forced to shut down business. I think the Pakistan government needs to realize the serious damage to the economy done by individuals like Sopher, and take off their kid gloves and put them away. Pakistan simply can afford such mischief, either by local thugs like Sopher or the encouragement of this by expatriates like urstruly.

Yesss! now you have the pefect statagy to bring the hoorriible MTC down to their knees begging for forgiveness and promising to obey you and even convert to the great religion that Allah so graciously bestowed on you through your namesake.

By the way what percent of the profits of ciba and motorolla come from sales in the land of pure? Oh you mean the bycott by all the Ummah. Yea that might work, but I hate to repeat the question, but what percent of the profit comes from the entire Ummah. I am presuming that you are quiet certain that the entire muslim nation is ready to follow your directions, with the exception of that rascal Hamidm and no good westernised Tahmed.

By the way I admire you for living in the swamp of western culture and still being pure muslim like a lotus. You know come to think of it, I don`t know why you never respond to my posts. Is it something in the way I write or is that you dont want to reply to the post of all horrible hindians?
