Mr.ZA please excuse for asking again.
Can you give idea to understand scope of work in India
Which are major companies in India in Enviornment engg? Any Idea about Market Capitalization?
My reading about this subject may be wrong. I understand even in west still Major Env. engg is still in more law making rather than mitigating problems proposed. Still the laws are in making governing the industrial and biological processes. Does Indian Parlment has framed any laws and bylaws. These are extremely costly even in rich countries of west and Americas. I have read to enforce the water quality bylaws proposed by american govt can not be done to full extent as the ruling bodies ( city and state govt.) does not have money required to carry out these things.
Everybody understands the importance but are there any cost Benefit analysis studies done in India? In Pakistan Major Industry is Agriculture and it is producing large amount of enviornmental degradation. The sweet water resources are getting pollutated in Pakistan. The indus flow has reduced greatly specially in Sindh. In addition outfall drains bring very worst type of pollution namely excess phoshphates, unused fertilizer coming down stream. The oxygen content in water has gone down greatly in Sindh river. Due to lack of oxygen in water macro and micro organisms are affected ( example is decimation of blind Dolphins in Sindhu river). The lack of oxygen and human waste addition and dairy wastes addition and ofcourse the untreated Industrial wastes, discharges from refineries are making many dangerous pathogens in water and Hepatatis is quite common even in Karachi. The excess extraction of water has lead to brakish water withdrawal from tubes wells even in heartlands of Punjab.
Karachi is biggest city in Pakistan but it is also biggest polluter. All karachis sewage is untreated practically and just discharged in sea. Karachi needs to follow bombay city. Bombay city has obtained billions of dollars worth from World bank so in future presently partially treated waste water will be traeted fully and will be carried by under ground pipe under pressure and will be discharged several miles away at locations where stuff will be dispersed. ( there was good article about indian infra structure in Economic Times: I read it carefully and felt Karachi needs its sewage to take atleast several miles away in sea. Even without treatment dispersion away from seashore will be very healthy.)
Formerly a great alive sweet water lake ( world famous) is slowly dieing ecologically and due to degradation of quality of water Sindhi Fishermen working in that lake are gone.
I think biggest problem is sewage treatment , all big cities make nightmare and real problem is lack of water. Present methods are based on use of water to dilute and purify by natural methods with little help from machines like filtration, areation, chloranitation, and decomposition of solids by aerobic and unaerobic means. Resulting in reduction of solid waste. This methods will not be useful in long terms as liquiation of sewage leads to great amounts of soiled water. The methods need to be devised where solid transportation takes place without use of water as soon in Pakistan to use water for solid transportation will not be possible as there will be not that much water left as population is exploding and chances of water diversion of Kabul and Indus are greatly probable. The scientist and engineers of world need to pay attention to disposal of sewage without water as used today.
The enviornmental conditions in Karachi are bleak. Presently all over city the solid garbage is spread and bhangis take money for sweeping roads but they never sweep. I have found these christian Bhangis do not work at all but they spend all time on romance with other female Bhangis. If there is strict sex segregation roads can get sweeped is my honest opinion. But this segregation is out of question and to ask these bhangis to work hard is considered unfashionable.
The drinking water and sewrage pipes are at same level and in vicinity and both are old and crumbling by age and there widespread mixing of both. So most in Karachi who can offered are drinking bottled water. ( the bottled water is also poisoned but you feel better that your chances are little better- its all pure Lafangebazi really). Wise families ( like mine) take tap water and boil and then drink. Some bottled water samples were so worst some health official ask to limit bottled water consumption. I think muslims Ummah is very short of water and with fastest rising population group this may be most critical problem of coming decades. Pakistan as leader in science and techonology can lead the research in Ummah in this type of studies. We have accute problem for even drinking water supplies and tanker Mafia controlled by rangers is permanant feature. Wastewater treatment is not on minds of cash strapped cities like Karachi.
Thanks for writing article and making aware the coming express problems.
