The story is tad sad and boring. The boy ( a man?) but is not mature enough to be as one. Placed himself in a confused situation as he has, none can be blamed for it. A typical successful dude, has circled himself with two extreme emotions; sadness and happiness. The writer conveniently ends abruptly getting the boy hitched! That coulda been made better if the boy was made to realize his confused state of mind and figure out his emotions to deal with. Marriage, that too just for parents happiness is only a loser thing to do especially when one believes to have achieved every god damned thing in life , but fails to sort out his ownself and vanishes into `nothingness`=> (that was the essence of the story eh!)
Pity such guys that dwell. Could use their strenghs to grow and not hide behind their self created shields of mixed emotions.

Don`t give up your dreams or helping others.
Take responsibility...... use your gifts for the better cause.

Well, what do you know? It could also have been a girl who didn`t want to be there!

MAQ, marriage is not that bad. Growing up has its advantages, but remain young at heart. You`ll have best of both worlds. The down side is you have to fend for yourself. This, I agree, is a bummer!

Did he give up and agree to becoming just another anybody?
I have thought that way at times because it seems very convenient to take the easier path -which may not be the same from your perspective. But I see no point in being alive if I must exist as just another `anybody`. But I like this piece, it captured a certain feeling for me.

Mohammed:
you are selective with words...keep them flowing:)
this works on many levels...
digression: do not read too much into the few(er) responses...barring the predicitble i/p, h/m bashing threads i find fewer interacts mean one of the two...either the piece is really bad...or it rings the bells deep in the grey temple somewhere and the images it evokes are perhaps too uncomfortable or disturbing...and the readers get so absorbed or taken aback in the thunderstorm of grey cells that they overlook to interact...
...hazards of writing:)

Mohammed,
``...approached wishing himself into nothingness...``
Wow! Don`t know if you meant it this way...but this is Sufi stuff Sir! You touch the divine by becoming `nothing`.
Cool.
