Haven`t had the time to read the probably commendable article but am pained to find the cantankerous interactions of two, what I believe, two good people - Nazarhayatkhan and Mantolives on insubstantive differences.
#16 Posted by MantoLives on September 19, 2003 10:08:34 pm
PS It is precisely this bonehead `military` mentality that you and your buddy Romair exhibit on this site which has ruined Pakistan.
#15 Posted by MantoLives on September 19, 2003 10:06:37 pm
Dude...
Its not the difference of opinion that bothers me... it is how you make exclusive `claims` to the truth... when clearly you have no idea what you are talking about (eg your statement about wali khan).
Kindly stop making statements like `I tend to be stark naked with the truth`.

PS Why does my marriage come up always when you are talking to me?

It is not polite to intrude when you are not being addressed unless you have something good to say.
Whenever, I need your assisstance or valuable views, I will request you.
There is no need to get unusually volatile on a difference of opinion.
Just relax - go through marriage peacefully - and enjoy life.

Eagerly looking forward to that auspicious occasion when you will be bridal-ed AND bridled by Aisha Fayyazi Sarwari.
I have been told that lead encasement and cadmium rods are used to keep radio-active materials regulated and controllable fissile. Some of us really need that. I perhaps needed four.
PS: NazarHayatKahan is an elder. You a muslim and Pakistani. a promising one too.

Dude... did you come to that conclusion before or after you realized that Wali Khan s/o Abdul Ghaffar Khan, the politician who was instrumental in the formation of JUI/ Mufti Mahmood ministry (Mahmood was fazlu`s father) in 1970s, the man with the plan and slogan of `Nizam-e-Mustafa`, the guy who opposed the resolutions outlawing honor killing in the name of Pathan tradition, and who colluded with Zia Ul Haq, is the most secular politician in Pakistan?

A good grand sway of the inter-mingling of civilizations in this heart of Asia.
It seems that Pakistan - and Afghanistan - are the two essential connectors.
The key lies in removing the India-Pakistan hostility - ?? ??
Highways and trains running across these countries can change the destiny of common massess.
Do the politicians of India & Pakistan understand this - they do , I think.
The entire issue gets stuck with Pakistan Army ......

Civilizations are different than empires or nations. The civilizations dilute at the edges (frontier regions) and much more susceptible to adopting outside influence. The accpetance of civilization is voluntary and does not need promotion due to having deep roots to sustain itself. The empires on the other hand use promotion using various means including coersion to defend the boundries, particularly when ruling elites belong to a different subgroup. Nations are extension of empires with people having more in common and having some stake in keeping it together. In successful nations boundries are more nationalistic and patriotic than the core which gives rise to term, frontier mentality of Cossaks in Russia or people of old expanding western USA. Additionally frontier mentality helps in progressing at higher rate due to greater risk taking or taking bold steps.
Pakistan roughly falls at the frontier of Indian civilizations and adopted new religions and cultures more easily whereas core arounf Ganges plains is more original and stronger. Since the partition, India can be looked at as a nation or a civilization. As a nation, it defies mentality of frontier people who are actually not as stronger nationalist as they should be in a strong nation. Similarly frontiers of India are developing and prospering more rapidly than the core UP, MP, Bihar and Rajhistan. All these indicate India more a civilization than a nation. Same is true in Pakistan also. It is more like continuation of Indus Valley civilization than anything, no matter what Islamist believe.
Here we have difficulty keeping civilizations together within nation boundries, the extension beyond current boundries is rather useless. The subgroups of Indian civilization (Indus Valley included) are mostly self centered and could be considered as nations without national governments. They can do it because civilization has never been at stake. The roots of civilizations are to be seen everywhere from one end to another, from cities to villages and from sea to the mountains.
The nations or ethnicities under the umbrella of Indian civilizations in India and Pakistan are looking for benefits; they are not trying to protect or strengthen already strong civilization. If west of Pakistan, they see anything worth developing economic relations they would do so without any brotherly feelings or yearning for bringing together Turkish, Persian and Indian civilizations together.
Right now two countries, Afghanistan and Tajikistan have absolutely nothing to offer to Indian civilization except trouble in the form of refugees, drugs, crimes, arms and beggars. Uzbekistan, the largest in population is a competitor for Pakistan in cotton export. They are very Turkish and dislike Pakistan due to Pakistan`s role in subduing Uzbeks in Mazar-e-Sharif region of Afghanistan during Taliban rule. Turkomen is too backward and self centered, though have gas reserves. Kirghistan and Kazakhistan are only two worth considering but Kazakhistan is half Russian and other half mongoloid turks. Therefore Kirghistan is only worth pursuing to join hand with Indian civilization, given the hisotry of Mughal rule over India and Babar coming from Ferghana Valley which is, in part, in Kirghistan.
Before even considering extension of economic allaiances in western and central Asia, economic cooperation between two Bengals and Two Panjabs must precede all others. When mere 40 unarmed people are not allowed to cross border legally between two same language groups, rest is far fetched, part dream part nightmare.
