The phrase ``shehnai wails`` has a very specific meaning in our culture. The phrase is specifically spoken in the context of a love or matrimonial tragedy or separation.
I appreciate your concern for the loss of american lives in the name of democracy and oil in iraq but I think the context here is misplaced.

t
I apologize for taking this space but I feel obligated to thank Chowk Staff from taking that aweful thread ``Peaceful Strokes`` off from the main page. At the time when Na Pak fauj is mericlessly slaughtering its own citizens; at a time when this malignant tumor has turned on those who fed it with their own blood, how can we enjoy cricket.
It is my appeal to all Dear Pakistanis, who beleive in the sanctity of human life and care for law and order in their country to pray for those innocent human beings - women and children - who are being bombed out of existence by the very forces who were supposed to protect them; to make special prayers today at Jumma prayers. Pray that God saves us from these mindless slaves called na Pak fauj who are killing their own citizens. Pray that these filthy dogs who have pointed their guns to their own citizens die the deaths of dogs that they deserve.

Sobia bibi:
It is supposed not to be understood. A lot of people have discovered that poetry is nothing but fudged prose camaflouged as a poem. After some proper but meticulous confounding of the punctuation marks, a scrambling of Caps and italics and formatting it like transit-routes usually does the trick.
Single-piston mopeds cluttering the runways
taxiing hither thither wither
looking askance at the Control Tower
wondering aloud,
weeping silently
when O when will we be a blip
when will be a blip
on the Radar.
PS: Question not your understanding, it is the examiners who are getting tested, the judges are on trial, the discriminators who are in the dock.
It is not enough to question one`s own judgement, it is equally important to question the judgement of those marketing their judgements.

Shenai has deep symbolic significance in our culture. Shenai and papeeya (Cuckoo) go togather.
Modernity it seems, a la Temporal has corrupted this world.

urstruly: yes shehnai has many connotations…am not restricting it to ‘our’ culture…flute can have resonance with rome’s nero as well as the meadow’s shepherd..
you write I appreciate your concern for the loss of american lives in the name of democracy and oil in iraq but I think the context here is misplaced.
