hamidm/ferozek: I think it would help a bit, in handling tribal leaders, if the rest of us stopped electing these same tribal leaders, like Jamali, as our Prime Minister. Or Bhutto as our leader of opposition. How, someone can be a cheerleader when the Army attacks a tribal leader in Wana, and complain when it dislodges one from the Prime Minister`s house, is beyond me. How about applying the same principle in both places.

Those living in tribal areas, have an excuse. They are uneducated and do not know any better. What excuse do the rest of us have in appointing feudals and tribals, on top of us, in high govt. positions/ And then writing, ``marsias`` for them, when they are (thankfully, in my opinion) deported to Dubai and Saudi Arabia. Are the feudal customs in the land of Amin Fahim and Zafarullah Jamali, any less tribal than those in the lands of Gul Khan Afridi?

If we are going to support the Army actions against tribal leaders (which I support), how in hell can we then use an opposing argument to support the Jamalis of Pakistan. Quite the double standard.

Similarly, these same tribals are one day told to fight the godless Soviet empire, with Zbignew Brezhensky, himself, wearing a shalwar qameez, pointing north, and shouting Allah-o-Akbar. The next day they are put into Guantanomo Bay, because they were not wearing a, ``uniform`` when they engaged in battle.

I have no regard for tribal leaders, be their last name be Bhutto or Jamali or Yosufzai or Arfridi. But we I do feel some sympathy for all the people, these individuals have been pointing into all different directions. If you want to understand why they follow their leaders and customs, you have to look not furthur then asking, why we support any feudal and tribal idiot who is appointed on top of us through a screwed up jirga-based system that we call democracy and elections.

I am not in some beauty contest.

Here is a joke for you to lighten this up for you.

One day while doing door-to-door market research, this guy knocks on a door and is greeted by a beautiful young housewife.
“Hello,” he starts, “I’m doing some research for a petroleum jelly manufacturer. Have you ever used the product?”
“Yes. My husband and I use it during sex,” she answers.
The researcher is taken aback. “Um, er, I admire you for your honesty,” he continues. “Can you tell me exactly how you use it?”
“Sure, we put it on the doorknob so the kids can’t get in.”

The game being played is much bigger than the hillbillies they are showing all over the place. These hillbillies are the petroleum jelly to keep us kids away from finding out what is going on under the covers.
Most of those arrested don’t even know what Islam means and can’t even place the US on the map. They are as much soldiers of misfortune as the other guys in the Para- military uniforms.

Pakistan is a confederation of wacko led by some lunatic weed smokers in the guise of army generals wearing fake ornaments.

If you smoked pot in the early 80`s you would know that you had to separate the seeds unless you bought the primo sinsemilla (SP) at $10 a gram.
These Generals are always begging for ten dollars to have a seedless weed.

That’s all there is to it.

I agree with hamidm2 # 10.

As I kept saying, this war/battle is a part of national unification process and the army is simply reacting 57 years too late to a problem it chose to ignore. Secondly, the anti-American resistence in Afghanistan originates in the FATA and it has to be ended. Thirdly, Pakistani army has to kills its own self-created monsters, because in the new reality Pakistan cannot afford links with its past.

Ciao

The latest news from Pakistan is that the Generals have asked for and got a ceasefire. Negotiations between 400 ``terrorists`` and Generals are underway.

The question that comes to mind is this: Why did`nt General Whore ask for negotiations from the beginning? Why didn`t he ask the elders of the tribe to come forward and help him get to the ``terrorists`` without firing a shot? Why couldn`t he put a siege around 400 people and wait till they asked for negotiations? Why this carnage? Why these killings of civilians and the destruction of properties? What was the hurry? After all, the ``terrorists`` had been sitting there for a few years now.

The answer is simple: Negotiations and non-military initiatives would not have pleased americans. Before Powel came to Pakistan, General Whore wanted to show him ``Look I am doing the killings, don`t worry about anything``.

Now General Whore has egg on his face by not finding Zawahiri, despite General`s whorish appearance on a third rated american news show promising something dramatic.

hossp,

............ i usually agree with you, but on this one you are on your own .......... i think this is one instance where the fools in khaki are actually doing what they are paid to do.......... the so called tribal belt should have been cleaned up fifty years ago - it is ridiculous how we have let these savages run loose like the drug cartels of columbia..........

............. but given its record of incompetence, the pak army which has more generals and langaris and batmen than soldiers, is bound to botch it up .......... in the seventies they surrendered to the tribesmen in malakand who went on to create a state within a state and later become allies of the taliban .......... i am sure they will find a similar ``compromise`` again which will come back to haunt us in the future ............ i think the only solution is to let the americans do the spring cleaning - perhaps they can rid us of the vermin once and for all .............

What is this a tombstone???

I am beginning to seriously question the intent of the Chowk editorial staff, when they allow these “bay sar o paw” articles to appear on a constant basis.

She is lamenting the death of a few soldiers who died after killing several men, women, and children themselves. “I say “khus kam Jehan Paak”. She talks about the surrender of these soldiers in 1971 w/o mentioning a word about the millions these same soldiers killed. Some Bengalis were killed on orders from their officers, and more were killed to just satisfy these “jawans” hatred for Bengalis. A major portion of Bengalis were killed because the same army “Ghabro Jawans’ were on a rampage to rape young girls, mothers, and housewives.

As long as poor Punjabi mothers would continue to send their kids in the service of the sadistic generals of the Pakistan army, these “Jawans” would continue to kill and die. When these Jawans die their family members get some compensation. What do the families of the people these Jawan kill get? Diddly Scot.

Would their death help people of Punjab realize their follies? No way. The middleclass in Punjab, as usual would be screaming its heads off to urge the Generals to kill more rebels. Like when Pakistan was being saved for Punjabi Middleclass, these same thugs and their masters in Army GHQ in Rawalpindi were massacring the people of Bengal.

These same Jawans have become instrumental in keeping the army Generals in power in Pakistan and it is a matter of time before these Jawans would be ordered to run amok in the heart of Lahore to silence the opposition to army rule in Pakistan. Nothing is beyond these army Generals. This idiotic Punjabi middleclass will eventually pay the price when their own daughters would be raped and molested by the same “Jawans” who would reincarnate to save Pakistan again and again.

Get ready to write more tombstones...the war is not over yet...

Give a little mention to the poor people being killed in Waziristan..they were told for the last 25 years that those ``terrorists`` were freedom fighters.

Zehra,
War has always been characterized by old men sending off young men to die on their behalf to support some pet cause. It is not just Pakistan, look at the US. Bush and his cohorts became delusional about Iraq and as a result, hundreds of US soldiers are dying in Baghdad over a war that is totally meaningless. Similarly in Afghanistan the warlords lead posh lifestyles, while their ordinary soldiers kill each other over trivial matters.
If the cause is truly justified, such as defeating Nazism, then war makes sense. It should always be the last resort and planned meticulously. Unfortunately in macho societies, war is taken lightly and the threshold to start a conflict is low. In this context, I am really proud of India`s heritage from Mahatma Gandhi, who showed that non-violence can work equally well, sometimes even better to resolve conflicts. It inspired Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and even a true blue-blooded Pashtun like Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, who is from the same tribal areas which you refer to. We can debate how effective the philosophy was, but I do believe that the philosophy is truly admirable, since it is counter-intuitive to man`s nature. The sad fact is that India itself has not lived up to Gandhi`s teachings, but that does not diminish from it.

No doubt this pain is awful, but it is also necessary. This is like chemotherapy being administered to a cancer patient. It is too painfull to bear, but altimately it purges away the cancerous tissues from the body. Pakistan needed this strong dose of chemotherapy to rid itself of these terrorists. Only good will come out of this.

madam farheen zehra, prepare yourself to be attacked by the so-called intelligent and free-thinking diaspora of Pakistan who sit thousands of miles away in their cosy new homelands and paint a rosy and unrealistic picture of Pakistan and General Whore (to borrow from another interactor). They will tear you to pieces for telling the truth for they are just good at sitting in front of their computers, typing about how wonderful the pak army is and how much ``progress`` we have seen under the rule of our revered ruler...prepare to be torn to pieces...more power to you for writing this article.

well written. Our lion hearted soldiers are being led by a pussy cat. They are being made a fodder for america`s war. He took them to Kargil and then abandoned them. He ran away from Siachin conflict with his tail between his legs.

Our soldiers did not join the esteemed instituition of army to declare war on its own people. They joined to protect us. Three generations of my family served in the highest ranks of army. They showed to the future generations what service really means. Today, their souls are restless because the armed forces they loved are being used to fire on our own civilians.

This whore will never be pardoned.

``On Saturday, local residents said a helicopter gunship killed 12 civilians, including 4 women and 6 children, as they tried to drive out of the area. Military officials said the civilians were mistaken for militants.`` From NY Times, Sunday March 21st.

The only HIGH VALUE TARGET in Pakistan is MUSHARRAF!
HE has once again played games with the hapless Bushites and his fellow cronies.
The drama of staging war within the bordeers of Pakistan was hopelessly dumb. Nobody bought it. All the Pakistani ``Experts``, the talking heads on various TV News channels tried to extract as much milage as they could, but gave up after 24 hours. Musharraf has onceagain ``fooled`` Bush camp (proving the gullibility of Bush regime).
Musharraf is a dictator, he is beyond law of Pakistan. He can stage any number of dramas without being challenged. His totally ineffective NAB, bogus referendum, followed by bogus elections, courting with the mullahs, pardoning of AQK (that is me!) and finally declaring war on Waziristan makes him the ``Highest Value Target`` in the international arena.
Sometimes I feel that Musharraf is Planted by the Indians and is a high class RAW agent.
What do you all think?
