``Well - not really. If Manmohan Singh becomes PM - he will be OK ( even though there will a leash of some sort around his neck) because he is already so well-known and well-respected politician.``
Unfortunately, we have been through this exercise before. When Rajiv died, the Congress people wanted to make Sonia their leader. She chose instead a family faithful, Narsimha Rao, to be the PM. He was chosen over stronger candidates like Pawar and Arjun Singh because he was thought not to have any power base of his own, even in his native Andhra. And soon, there were manipulations with Rao trying to act independently and Sonia supporting people like Arjun Singh. This was the backdrop to the Hawala scandal. Rao and Sonia hardly spoke to each other until recently.
Back then, Sonia was merely a widow. Now, she has established herself as the party president as well as winning an election for the party. So, she is much stronger now than she was before.

``It is doubtful that his PMship will bring any good or justice to the anti sikh riots.``
It should not make any difference to the Sikhs. He should be expected to bring justice to people for the anti-sikh and Gujarat riots not because he is a sikh but because he will be the PM.

//...I am afraid that we may not end up with a Jamali in India? ...//
Well - not really. If Manmohan Singh becomes PM - he will be OK ( even though there will a leash of some sort around his neck) because he is already so well-known and well-respected politician. Unlike Jamali - Singh is a leader of his own standing.
But - only time will tell.

“At last the election has shown the dark side of india, the role of the illiterate, the role of the cow belt. The illiterate of india who have no idea of any objective reality have elected a party that believes in heriditory”
First of all the cow belt did not vote for the congress the south Indians did. Take a look
http://www.eci.gov.in/images/Maps/English/India.jpg
Other than that there is just a 2% swing in votes that changes the party in power. So I think trying to analyze the results is futile.

Jay,
Its not the cow belt which propelled congress to power. In UP and Bihar congress is placed 2nd and 3rd respectively, with very few seats. Check the numbers from AP, Delhi and other places.
Adios

Sonia would have been fine if not from Gandhi dynasty and her lack of any experience in govt. All other arguments against her being not really an Indian are emotional knee jerks...
Manmohan would be a wise president...but not a strong one. He will be on mercy of Gandhi family or being a nice guy he is will be indebited to this karm of the big aaka. This will make very hard for him to perform as HIMSELF...he would be under pressures from 3 Gandhis and 60 leftists.:-)
One more point.....Manmohan`s PMship will do miracles in integrating the alientated sections of Sikhs. Respect and pride for Manmohan singh is universal amongst sikhs...I can`t imagine how Akalis would not give their vote of confidence in favour of Manmohan singh if he really needs it to keep his government going.

Very much so. He was a very successful and competent minister - Railways, Home (?) before he became the PM. He had performed quite well in the Parliament.
It`s not just a question of lack of communications skills; Sonia does not have sufficient overall grasp of the issues to be able to hold her own in a debate.
``but even if true i suspect there would be many who would give anything to be a jamali there!``
Do you really believe that we have different DNAs?

Nazar ji . . . don`t write off the BJP in India that easily, please. Or the economic programmes, either.
Message, or image portrayed, in India, is not just what the political arm of Governance wishes to portray. To quite an extent, the message or image portrayed is closer to what ground realities are, it is just we who choose to see what we wish to see.
There are so many pillars of governance in India where nothing has changed.
And there is, believe me, an inevitable march upwards in India. Especially in the West and the South, but not restricted to it either.
