“(Why they simply could not play 3-pattee or flash well is an endearing mystery to this day, though.)”
Ha!Ha! Ha! Obviously you never met real Pakistanis. Most of the guys you met on ships were clearly of barely middle class families. Some may be from Mohajir type families, where playing cards is still a taboo-Against religion- perhaps.
Flash or 3-pattee as you put it, is a fairly common game in Pakistan- at least with people who have some money to spare. Rummy(sp) is much more popular and played with different variations. Flash has its own variations such as: when you can double and when you cannot go blind. Jokers or wild cards are also popular variations.
I happened to have financed part of my trip to India by playing Flash in Delhi. It was fun. The guys were really sharp but I managed. One guy actually was totally pissed off because a Pakistani won so much of money.
“India and Pakistan can, as separate countries but with motive forces together, rule the world.”
Another pipe dream that seems like is shared by all Punjabis. I am astonished at the amount of delusions these guys have.
If these two or one group of people on both side of the border have their acts together, at least people in both countries have some chance of getting a slightly better deal but Punjabis have to mess up royally and nobody can change that.
I just wish that Indian and Pakistan Punjab are made one country with the WALL around it; so these buffoons can stop ruining other lives.

HAHA. Good one dude. Tthere was a Pakistani Lt Gen Talat Masood who made the case that the reason Pakistan was in much worse shape then India was because the Punjabis were the majority there whereas they were diluted in India by other ethnic groups.

Your quote:
``If there is one sentiment I believe in, then that is this - India and Pakistan can, as separate countries but with motive forces together, rule the world.``
100 percent agreement on this one.

How did you find out that the people in the front row were the snoops?

i thought Sri Lankan shippies are/were over represented in proportion to their population. tons used to hang around in mumbai to get their second mate (or something like that). now, these folks were the big-time party guys and very very gay. incidentally, how come the actress in the play sounds like a lankan?
now you see the sri-lankan and bengalis a lot on cruise ships as stewards.
incidntally, shell (or is it exxon?) is currently running a full-page ad in newsweek and other magazines. i dont recall what exactly it says, but it shows Sam Singh, a very bald master of a tanker smiling at you.

Thanks for that long explanation on the other board. You are a Pucca Congress Wallah. So there is a big difference between the BJP & Congress on the philosophy of Hindustan & Hinduism.

Ya. Time some one realized that while Punjabis were killing each other for a Flag, God or Bhagwan, rest of India & Pakistan was having a bloody khushee time.

Agreed. If India & Pakistan can coalse togather peacefully as normal independent states, they do no need the rest of the world. (there is no need to rule the rest)
I think this peaceful co-existance is possible, finally...

Lt. General Talat Masood did not mind the Punjabi majority when:
* he commanded the Punjabi majority
* he led the Punjabi majority to death for vain causes
* Punjabi majority made him a Lt. General
* Punjabi majority served him and his family for 30 long years
* Punjabi majority gave him agricultral lands and plots in Defence Karachi & elsewhere
* Punjabi majority gave his prodigy an a life-long status of blue-bloodedness
* Punjabi majority tolerates his comments and his expert analyis
NHK:
What is your definition of a Punjabi? Why are the liberals so self-deprcating?
Nikki:
You are absolutely right that we have lot of things in common, but none of the things that you mention.
Consider this for a change:
``We`` nurtured Buddhism when they were persecuted elsewhere in Indian
``We`` gave you a religion that safeguarded you for centuries.
``We`` died for you while you multiplied
``We`` endured the invaders` wrath while you slept in your temples full of gold
``We`` continue to suffer while you move to greener pastures!
You are right we do belong together but for reasons other than you mention!

Veeresh Ji,
The tone and mood of this part of the travelogue was very different from the preceding ones. Earlier, you were exploring and at times, also trying to validate your understanding of Pakistan. This time the opera and merchant navy led to disconnect; it is tough for a lower middle class Indian like me to understand the intricacies of opera. I hope people will ask more questions about these things and you`ll be kind enough to explain them during interaction.
``If there is one sentiment I believe in, then that is this - India and Pakistan can, as separate countries but with motive forces together, rule the world.``
Any kind of romantic relationship between India and Pakistan even if it is for the noble cause of ``ruling the world`` is a pipedream that Punjus from either side smoke when they are high on whiskey :-) If we manage to keep afloat in future without being colonized by Americans or Chinese, it would be as good as your Napoleonic fantasies.
