``I am amazed that while nb and sadna, with the best of intentions perhaps, are taking up the cause of Ishrat with such fervour, there is no questioning of their patriotism. I have other reasons not to comment yet, but what if I had done the same? ``
For the record, my patriotism has been questioned, not on chowk but elsewhere.
``And what about Indian men? That hawker who was rounded up? That 80-year-old man? ``
I don`t like those either. But when a woman is shot dead, which has been rare, I protest that too.
You missed the second part on which we might or might not differ. I also protest the cynical use of the Indian woman by the Pakistani state intent on sponsoring terrorism in J&K and rest of India in the name of Islam.
This cynical use applies to men too, which I have been protesting in different ways for a long time.

``Have you noticed, sadna, that omar and gujjubania are saying the same thing, that you have to be RSS to be a patriotic Indian?``
Good observation! They must have been separated at birth.

Sheesh...Now FV goes into politician style talk -
``we live here, squat here, fight here, pay taxes..etc etc
How about adding
- ``we are apologists for terrorists here, we support breakup of India here...``
Her slimy, lying arguments are exposed - so an operation ``act like a victim`` is
under process :)

Too many typos...so a cleaner version of the first para:
With due respect, I am not here to pass my time...if that was the sole intention then I could have chosen to write lighthearted stuff, and am not bad at it at all...of course, calling serious issues ``fluff`` is something one has to deal with on such boards, but I have got past those barriers. I would commend you for being candid in your admission and hope your mamus would admit it too.

Don`t know about `The Project` biz...it is obviously some inside joke...but why is it that people like you have conflicting responses to people like us? Today a ``well-to-do educated`` Muslim will nto cause problems for you...at other times our elitism comes in the way and you accuse us of not knowing a frikkin thing about the `real problems` facing the Muslims.
[Hindus tell their kids they are `Indians`. Most muslims tell their kids they are `muslims`.]
Please do not get into this...it is ridiculous. Most kids in our society do not need to be told `who` they are...we wake up to all kinds of religious symbols and right form the start it is dinned into our heads. We begin to grow into it, then maybe like it, defend it...and soem end up dying for it. I was a bright kid when I refused to learn to `read` the Quran by saying I did not want to mug up one more book. The fact is I was more interested in path-breaking activities like trying to whistle with two fingers under the tongue, like boys.
Hindu kids are as much initiated into religion. They start their day with pujas, not with singing the national anthem. And many of them are told they are Brahmins, Kshatriyas, dalits...and they are also told whether they are Tamilians, Punjabis, Assamese, Haryanvis...if this helps in some sort of cultural mooring, it is perfectly all right. But do not make it into a Hindu vs. Muslim thing.
We are born in india, we wake up to Indian sounds, we go to schools here, we work here, pay our taxes here...we love it, we hate it, we rubbish it, we fight for it...we are Indians for these reasons and not because somebody tells us.

Heyy Zafar! Are you the same guy who wrote a really nice, heartfelt article about the Indian Muslim that got onto the outlook site (that`s how I first heard of chowk, actually)?
I wrote a gushing letter in response to that which would probably embarass me now if I saw it.
However, what`s all this secret Bohra business? I used to have a Bohra friend and she used to get really annoyed that she was not considered Muslim enough by her boyfriend`s family (they were `real` Muslims from UP).Gujjubania, can`t believe you don`t know the Bohras-they`re everywhere!!

Hey Farzana,
Thanks for writing about Satyendra Dubey … here is one guy who didn’t have a careless conscience (and see where it got him …? damn-it it really sucks)! I was in India late last year he was in the news a lot and bumping along the UP/Bihar sections of the Golden Quadrangle I was really glad someone was doing something about corruption on the project. The Delhi-Jaipur highway section was a Dream compared to the UP bits … but anyway. Then he got murdered …
I hope his legacy will spark some consciences … here are some people who seem fired up right now, hope it lasts …

BTW The other murder for an careful conscience that I found really shocking was a young relative of Vajpayee who was trying to stop some creeps from attacking girls on a local train … another waste of life

#145 Veeresh - A Jhadoo update was the perfect antidote to the gloomy ``Lahin to maat kha gaya Hindustan`` mood this article put me in ... while the enterprising folks of India can check up on their representatives and use Jhadoo selling to finance this effort there is hope ... Jhadoo Jindabad !
BTW my brother-in-law in Delhi knows you well apparently, he does a show on cars or something hence ...
