Bhaiyon,
Thake nahin kya?
Try this
http://sidin.blogspot.com/2004/05/travails-of-single-south-indian-men-of.html
This will surely release some tension and bring a smile on your face. They guy is simply terrific; I`m waiting for a book by this prodigious talent in not so distant future. His blogs even made it to some newspaper.
I think in the mad scramble for scoring brownie points, we really torment ourselves. We logon to Chowk, read a few articles here and there and look for the usual suspects, rebut them with the choicest of words and log-off, bitter and more caustic than ever before. A part of the problem, I must confess is over-sensitiveness and pre-judging people. Even before reading the first sentence of Urstruly post, we tag him as Jihadi and ask when did he return from Guantanamo? In my limited interaction, I found mantolives the most glaring example of this species. Here is a man with vast amount of information, reads and accumulates facts, and at the slightest of slights, pounces on his supposed detractors. Off course, this means calling the person personal labels and epithets, and the real argument is lost in the din.
Manto Bhai, pls don`t get angry. This is no attempt to prosecute you, just my humble plea to control your anger to let others see your point of view. We are missing out on a lot of good things because you can’t take a deep breath and let go I see the same problem with many other posters, people who read a lot and could give so much, if not for their fits of anger.
I`ll not name names, otherwise I know people are going to push me off my high horse and show me my place :-)
Doston, this is a great forum, a chance for `learned and fortunate` people of two nations locked in mutual antagonism to come together and share ideas. The least we can do is stop abusing, for God`s sake. If there is an altercation, as I`m sure will be, let`s raise the issue with the person concerned. I’m sure world will not become a perfect place, there will be prejudices of the editorial board, of the authors, of the posters, but pls let’s get back some sanity. We can do much better than ma-behen-beti stuff!!

Hey tahmed,
Appreciate ur comments brother!! Hope things turn out well, and we get back to normalcy- trading insults, citing paper clippings, quoting from books and enjoying life on Chowk. It is difficult for thinking people to arrive at a consenus, but let`s leave the gaali-galouch aside.
Thanx again for gila-shikwa bhulaaing :-)

I missed all the fireworks and now all the bc posts are zapped :-(
if it isn`t already evident, bc is probably some juvenile persona who was just out to create a stir by insulting anyone not to his/her/it liking. A few more of these types and the site will unravel.
A better solution may be to give readers the facility to ban certain users so that their posts never appear (a la kill-filing).

ardeshir #597 Fair enough, and let us then try again with a fresh start. Welcome to chowk. :-)
Given that the miserable conditions in which the vast majority of people live in Pakistan and in India, I consider it criminal the way self-proclaimed patriots come to chowk. As the fortunate few from the subcontinent who are educated and have the time and means to chat on chowk, I think it is our duty to try and eliminate a major hurdle in the path of badly needed progress in both countries - this hurdle being the india-pakistan tensions that give rise to enormous expenditures on modern arms by both countries while the poor live in squalid conditions. That is why I have nothing but contempt for these individuals who fancy themselves to be patriots when all they are doing is exchanging stupid insults.
As for pakistanis making fun of hindu gods, it is funny you should do that on this board where a pakistani has written with interest and complete respect about hindu religion. While no doubt there are pakistanis who fall to this level as well, as I think you will observe if you stay long enough on chowk this habit of beating one`s own drum while ridiculing the other side is far more prevalent among Indian posters.
Anyway, welcome (sincerely) to chowk and we can put aside our initial less than friendly exchanges.

And to chowk editors: I certainly join those who appeal to let future posts from barachota come through. And hopefully in future you will use the same policy for individuals who proudly claim they are here for one purpose only - that purpose of insulting communities and religions and nationalities being in direct violation of your guidelines. Barachota certainly did not come to chowk for that purpose. Although he should have refrained from the language he used when provoked. He did go too far and for that only he can excuse himself. But we certainly need more people like him, and less like the above-mentioned types. So, my dear chowk staff, as Martin Luther King would say: Let my people go!! (not very relevant, but I needed a nice slogan to end this lengthy multilingual post)

Quraishi Sahib,
The truth is: most Indians do not know the music scene in Pak. And it is not their fault. India is a huge country with cultures and subcultures. Some guy deep south may be just humming a local tune from the a film being churned out of Madras/ AP and be blissfully unaware that there is something called Bollywood north of the Vindhyas!
A better way would be to post some articles/news on the music scene in Pak and let Indians read it. This would be more fun.
BTW, we have all heard of Junoon but nothing beyond it.

There are some interactors on this article as well as other articles who repeatedly use personal attacks and crude/offensive verbage targeting people/religions/nationality of other interactors.
This is a reminder that such offenders will be duly removed from Chowk along with their entire history of interactions.
Chowk welcomes you to read, write and think. This means to open your mind to views new and different from your own. Not simply to counter-attack differences with obscenities. More clearly, if you do not wish to read and think then please don`t bother to write.
wow -- this realization seems to have dawned a bit late eds.... something that had been suggested to u guys before too -- if u guys had acted then and refrained the paki bashers in equal measure than perhaps none of this would have happened -- hope this policy will be implemented without regard to the presumed antionality or faith of the interactor eds... and by the way how come rabidly anti pakistani interactors like nikki and gujjubania who have slandered whole communities and countries have yet to have their interaction `terminated` (with apologies to the calif gov) ?

harimau: PS. Taking into consideration the tremendous victories that the Pak Army has achieved in its history, don`t you think it could be reduced to a single brigade in strength and they could still take over the government? -- well i dont know haramiau sahib -- they did a pretty decent job of stopping the indian army in chawinda and the BRB canal jee -- waisay if u really want to know this haramiau sahib u can send your question to the director general of ISPR (u surely would know what that is since you seem such a keen follower of the pakistan army), maj gen. shaukat sultan -- im sure he will be happy to respond to query haramiau sahib :)
#602 Posted by omar_r_quraishi on July 15, 2004 5:23:01 am
btw chowk eds -- please can u tell me if gujjubania and nikki boy are next on the permanent removal list and if not why not -- after all they have repeatedly violated the very `policy` that u have announced on this board via post 571 -- and they arent even half as funny and well informed as mr chota
#601 Posted by omar_r_quraishi on July 15, 2004 5:23:01 am
shri veeresh jee.shrimati sadna jee, various paki bashers: did u know karachi has 6 FM radio stations now -- and not a single one has any programmes on jihad -- now isnt that a shame shrimati jee?????? -- hey but what -- perhaps u or the wise one can find out and let us who live in khi know if there is one in jihad coz we would sure as hell love ta listen ta it ....
#600 Posted by omar_r_quraishi on July 15, 2004 5:23:01 am
and by the way barachota, if u can read this -- dont know how this ban works -- i suggest that u should not come back at all -- never return to a place on someone else`s terms, esp when they smack of blatant double standards -- never do that in a job -- and this is just a website
#599 Posted by nb on July 15, 2004 5:23:01 am
It is with great interest that I note how many `decent` Pakistanis seem to feel sorry for barachota-after all, as tahmed says, what else could he do when faced with all these Paki-bashing scum? So pointing out what the whole world knows-that Pakistan is a safehouse for terrorists deserves to be answered by obscene slander about women. So it is acceptable to attack living women, but not acceptable to point out truths. If the Prophet took young wives and people point it out, that is unacceptable too. Why not focus on the fact that morals and customs were different then, and by those standards, what he did was acceptable?
I thank chowk staff for attempting to return a modicum of decency to the proceedings, but what took you so long?
