I dont know much abt the topic u are talking abt(business)..but one thing I would like to point out..Delhi is not xenophobic at all..Mumbai is..Nobody cares where are you from in Delhi..probably because most of them have come from somewhere else themselves..And the ``Chale AAte hai kahan kahan se`` you might have felt..is part of the traditional punjabi arrogance..it does not mean anything..punjabis and Sikhs are very warm and friendly people once you get used to the ``maa di`` and ``bahan di`` gaalis.

I have to agree on several points with you. I have not been to Delhi more than twice and have not lived there , however my cousins live there so do some friends.

One consistent theme is the brashness of the Delhiites - whether Delhites , or Western UPites or Eastern UPites or Biharis or Bangladeshis or Haryanvis or the Western Punjabis one could care less. On the other hand Bombay is more cosmopolitan . Bombay would seem more secure for the average middle class person - much more so than Delhi. I guess one would find historical reasons for that. Hey I would not miss the DTC buses and so on.

as an ex bambaiyya who has visited dilli many times i can attest to the poor bussiness climate of the past.

i remember distinctly trying to buy some electronic parts in bhagrath palace from lala-shopkeepers used to be a serious effort. contrast with the gujju on lamington rd in mumbai, he will be very polite, ask your name-bussines-phone number, if you are a smaller guy refer you to his cousin in next galli who can better take care of your needs and wish you the best so you get bigger and do bussiness with him. delhi got fat on easy money and had a serious lack of good bussiness sense way back in 1985. i am sure things have changed now.

and it totally lacked night-life. if you wanted to take a girl out, only place was nirulas, which used to close early. after that you choice was a few places in expensive hotels. yes, delhi was so totally uncool and provincial. even if a guy wanted food late night, he would have choices between moolchand parathas or the tibetan dhaba near the bus station. this was so totally bewildering for visitors from real metros.

Dilli isnt so bad. vistysed it last year even when BJP was in power it reminded me of a more cosmo Lahore mind you.

That is a news to me ! I am sure a few million economic immigrants to mumbai will be surprised to know that

JohnGalt #15 Thats the impression I got during my one year stay.The general impression is that gujjus are hogging business and bhaiyas the daily dihari and other unskilled labour jobs.So, maharashtrians suffer. This is what my Maharshtrian acuaintances told me at that time and one of them who is still a friend tells me. Thats what Udhav Thakerey keeps parroting that they would curb the number of immigirants to mumbai if they come to power. But, as I mentioned,my obervations are based on my one year stay so I may be generalizing wrongly, and you as a Mumbaiite..may know better.
