The interactions to this article are quite pathetic. And, i thought that Pakistani`s had finally realised that it is being a Pakistani which counts more than being a Punjabi,Sindi, Balochi or Pakhtun etc. Shouldn`t we, Pakistani`s look towards the larger interest of Pakistan as a whole?
It is not any one else but our own selves which have created such inequalities.. and it is no one but Us who can over come it.
Let us not be Punjabi`s, Sindi`s, Balochi`s,Siraiki`s, Pakhtuns etc .. For Once and For all..Let us be Pakistanis and let us respect each other and understand each others problems and contrive to find solutions rather than waste time in useless bickering.
As the saying goes.. United we Stand.. Divided we Fall...

kkk,
You deftly avoided the main point. The grievences that the other nationalities have with the present set up are the creation of Muhajirs, not Punjabis. This system was created by Muhajirs. The no of Punjabis I know who `drool` at luckhnow is precisly ZERO,
Btw, come to Lahore, Gujranwala, Jhang Sial and find out what it means to be a Punjabi Jatt and not a charcoal black marsh monkey from Rajastan. (T)

The Dilliwalla is there for show, the real power is with the Punjabis. The cowardly surrender in Dacca and the selfish way in which the Pakistani Punjabi soldiers (Nyazi, Rao Ferman Ali, etc) saved their own necks and betrayed the poor Biharis, will come back to haunt Pakistan and Punjab
Well said, you have hit the spot!
But the problem with Mantolives is the probelm with Punjabis in general, a state of denial that absolute power has. His post about the Sindhis loosing Karachi to the Muhajir Immigrant is illinformed and barren of facts. Karachi was populated primarily by Hindus and Parsi communities for over 300 years. The influx of the Muhajir element post 1947 made karachi what it is today, the sindhis and the quota system now allows equal representation in karachi to the Sindhis. Manto`s view is what we wud ecpect from any from Lahore or any other federal city, I am sure he has ignored events from the past whereby trains of immigrant arriving from India were not allowed to stop in Lahore and sent on their way to the other major city of hyderabad and Karachi.
I am really starting get miffed off with some seriously ignorant views by this Mantolives Chap!

baRachota. . .
thank you as always for providing us with great laughter. calling sameer and myself hate-mongerers. equating us with alienating non-punjabis. accusing us of being part of a group of people who are like the RSS, or the nazis. oh the comedy never ends, and on a board where we should actually be focusing on the balochi people. how did you get to be such a genius anyway?
i think more intelligent pakistanis and indians here have come to regard you for being the clown that you are. except that clowns used to make us laugh by bumbling and fumbling themselves, not by insulting other people.
and while you are dissecting your ancestry percentage-wise, i don`t need to use percentages to talk about my rajput, punjabi hindu and sikh ancestry. it doesn`t matter what was more or less. i don`t even need to bring it up time and time again to prove a point. and punjabis, hindus and sikhs have been on your list of people to insult since you first started posting here. who`s the derider and the hate-mongerer? i think more intelligent readers can see through you and your various avatars.
still you provide some valuable functions here at chowk. . .you try to provide a mirror to the rest of us, and you show us just how not to be so ignorant and self-serving like you. it is just too damn bad that the mirror you need to look at yourself is shoved up so far up your arse.
my apologies to the writer, and those who actually want to talk about the balochis.

I cannot say that all the 150 souls of the country wept for the victims of ‘Baway Di Kutya’, Okara Farms, and Wanna. But can we say with any certainty that all these incidents could not catch any attention and sympathy of the nation. What is the scale of judging how people are thinking? Usually strikes and protests are taken as the symbol. But many factors are involved in a planned and organized protest. Firstly comes the Media, then comes leadership and thirdly comes enthusiasm of the public.
When we talk about media we are astonished to observe that it has not projected the issues on pure human grounds. The media that had projected Afghan War, the Iraq War and Kashmir issue (in last two decades), is not ready to consider such important issues to project before the people. The same Pakistanis that were worried on Russian attack on Afghanistan are not aware what is going on in their own country. It is not senselessness but ignorance on the part of the public. But who is responsible for this?
Then there is leadership. It was the concern of the leaders of different parties that had kept the soul of the nation alive (apart the question of in a right way or the wrong one). I am not going to mention the two big parties with their leaders on exile because they could not manage a protest on their own concerns. Remember how our religious parties have been active on all the world affairs from Palestine to Afghanistan till the end of Zia’s regime. We find its symptoms even when America and Allies attacked Iraq for the firs time in 90’s and the tragedy of Babri Mosque in a later period. Then the same leaders changed their attitude. Don’t you remember the mysterious silence of MMA before the Iraq War II when the whole non-Muslim world was on a protest? The intelligentsia of Pakistan could fill this gap but it also seems in a sound sleep. Who will come forth to plan a protest that may represent the nation’s voice?
Where is the public? Most are busy in the earning of “ Roti, Kapra aur Makan”. Many have found their interest in multi channel entertainment (more fond of music, film and dramas rather than current affairs). Once there was a fire in youth but we have exploited it so frequently that now we find only ashes of it.
Now this nation ponders on the issues, discusses them with high sounds, sobs for a while and then enters the merry go round of the routine life. The people who are unable to protest for their own rights (social, economic and political), how can they raise a voice for their fellowmen, inland or abroad?

#69: (50% Irani, 25% Shia, and 25% Rajput ancestry).
that is like adding up .50 orange, .25 kauliflower and .25 cup of masr daal and call it a fruit.

I agree with the gist of your contention that one reason Pakistan is in a total mess is due to its ethnic problems. You can read my opinion here Pakistan under its Ethnic Shadows.
This over-emphasis on ethnic identity arises due to psychological complexes. Keep in mind that Sameer and Nazar Hyat Khan, with their narrow and myopic thinking aligned with their ethnicity, speak only for themselves, not for all the Punjabis. They are stuck in a narrow world of fantasy and have a desperate psychological need to identify themselves with a tribe--a tribe that overrides any national or religious boundaries. Quite ironic for Sameer and NHK, this thought process and philosophy is the same as the Ummah of Islam except that it differs only in its narrowness.
Manto, however, is a true nationalist who recognizes the myriad problems confronting Pakistan. He is not a Punjabi. He is a Pakistani.

ali1 is a lalukheti bhaiyya (based on his language and propensity for the ``patali gali``.
Manto
``I am married into a family that migrated from India to Karachi... so I am well aware of the Mohajir community and its problems and issues``
common now, how can you equate marathi-konkani to bhaiyyas?
I think in the spirit of chowk, we should compare and contrast the Manipuri dhamal thats on-going in the indian north-east and baluchi problem, and draw some lessons. This is constructive since, as kkk says, we are similar, no?
Dawn coverage of the baluch issue compared with Hidustan Times coverage (and pls veeresh, dont bring in circulation.)
Nawa-i-waqt coverage -- Dainik Jagaran Coverage.
Geo TV/PTV -- Aaj-Tak/Doordarshan
Women in Manipur demonstrated by taking their clothes off in front of Assam rifles HQ. I may sound crass, but In baluchistan, were there any demonstrations of women taking off their burkhas? Event the Imphal Kennel Club is demontating. The Manipur Government is on a path to repeal the Act which gives armed forces immunity from prosecution in Imphal Metro Areas.
