Wow! The guys in Pakistan must be having fun on Independence Days ;-) On a more serious note, I`ve never come across any such thing in India. Wonder why!

Hello Mehreen,
I just wanted to say that I found your article amusing but you really should learn how to control your temper and be more diplomatic when expressing your contempt for the ``socially deprived crackpots``, who listen to ``ill-tasting music``, try to be ``cool`` but are unable to buy ``grace`` ann are nothing but ``parasites``.
Instead of ranting and raving, you might want to think about why they are the way they are. You might also want to get down from your high pedestal and try to think the way these people think. Maybe it will offer you some insight.

Yes. I do believe that there are two sides to every question. Facts are subjective and there are two - if not more- versions of ANY event in history.
I agree with u bilal...that the ``other side`` does deserve a ``sympathetic listening`` and writing. And i shall do that soon.
You know how it is: when something happens tp you, your first reaction - in most cases - is ranting and raving. After the fire has escaped your ears, mouth or pen (in my case), you are able to think bout things calmly.
Ten days after august 14, i still feel as strongly about our nation`s complete lack of a sense of civic duty. And i will be writings lots about that.
Yes. There is another side to the story. And i urge others to write about it. But i think that there had already been enough said about the millions of reasons WHY the nation and its people are the way they are. I think that we have already been given too many explanations. I think that we have accepted too many justifications, which explain and excuse nothing but are just a method of finding temporary relief.
I think its time for some serious re-thinking now. I think its time to stop slacking off and get our act together.

Post no:17:
There is nothing to recommend. Good morals can be preached, but one can not make another follow. It is the effort of the individual alone that can change him.
Instead of harassing females and travelling on silencer less bikes, giving every one else head aches, they should do the following:
1: Hold seminars for the youth
2: Retell the tale of the Pakistan struggle for young children
3: Meet those reknowned people who have struggled for this country
4: hold debates, competitions etc. For example, every year, on Independence day, the Railway Club of Karachi organises many sporting competitons..
5: people part of theatric groups should hold special plays.
6: beautify the country , light candles etc. and not conjure noise pollution and scare females
7: Concerts should be held and in fact they ARE held for the interested youth..
etc.etc.etc.
If wants to do something positive, ideas come automatically...

``These men are most probably unmarried. :)`` - so they`re allowed to harass any female who comes their way?

My My what a write-up!!!! So you think its only Inde-Day that it all happens, then you are forgetting that we have two eids and some other Godforsaken holidays too that it repeats itself all over again and again. Who do you think is responsible..... anyone anyone PLEASE anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!! come on no body is bold enough to say `` YES! IT WAS ME, WHO SHOULD BE BLAMED`` dont you say. It is very easy to point fingers and frown but it takes a lot of courage to get up and try to change it.. I think I know one person who can be rightly blamed for all this.... no rather I can show you a bunch of people who are responsible for it all......... so lets begin with the usual suspect number one... MR ISLAM JANAB AALI MAQAM SHAHEED GENERAL ZIA UL HAQ... this single person put us on a path that has been taking us into a BLACK HOLE of degradation and corruption and it will tkae us 50 years more to get out of it...... then the other person is...... MR PAKISTAN ZIA UL HAQ 2 ( You guesed it right I am refereing to our beloved, respected and choice of the new PM ( by PM I mean POOR MASSES, not Prime Minister, cause it works other way round for this Post) CEO BFG (BIG FOOKIN GUN) PM (Pervaiz Mussharf). Actually like a good novel we will have more such editions over the course of next 7 years and then the story will end cause we have overstreched the limits of this country and it will cease to exist as we know it now. And then we will have a military band and a mullah who will come to write it`s tombstone and it will read like this `` HERE LIES THE ASHES OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN, SON OF QUAID I AZAM, BORN ON 14th AUGUST 1947, IT PASSED AWAY DUE TO THE BRUTAL HANDS OF MILITARY RULE AND POISONS ADMINISTERED BY THE COMMUNAL AND RELIGIOUS FACTIONS ON 14th AUGUST 2010, AGED 63. IT IS SURVIVED BY MILLIONS OF ORPHANS SCATTERED ACROSS THE GLOBE`` So be ready for an untimely death because poison is in the veins now and it will not be long before it draws its last breath, dont complain I did not tell you so....

One question to all my respected commentators who are blaming /complaining about the bad behavior of Pakistani youth
. What they contributed so far for the betterment of them (besides blaming/complaining). Is this Blaming/Complaining (which to me seems a hobby of few) is going to make any improvement??

independence day sounds like a lot of fun in pakistan.
in india, its a sedate affair, where scared children are hearded to their schools in whites for the flag-unfurling followed by a bhashan by some politician.
and then sometimes you die due to a bomb planted by a jehadi.

You have done a nice write-up.This sort of uncouth and vulgar behaviour shows the moral deterioration of our society. It also reflects on our educational system and family values. I wonder why the thekadars of our morality, people like Qazi Hussein Ahmad and others of his ilk, who are always raving and ranting about politics and jehad, are taciturn and tongue-tied on such atroticies? Actually this is the evil against which we need to do jehad; but than there are no material dividends outta this sorta jehad. Where would the Qazis of the bearded brigade extort money to whiz around in Land Cruisers and pay for their off-springs` education in the land of the Satan?

All i could hear on 14th August was the sound of silencer less motorcycles and blaring horns.
The Quaid must have turned in his grave. (yet again).

Mehreen worte:
``Boys will be boys on most days but on August 14, most Pakistani men will also turn into pubescent teenagers. Out on the roads on their silencer-less motorcycles and sun-roofed civics, these “men-children” raise havoc on the traffic and the opposite sex``.
These men are most probably unmarried. :)
Media, parents and schools should educate people in an effective manner to abide by laws and respect the fellow human beings. Implementation of laws can also restrain these culprits to do such silly things.
