kkandk: you make two excellent points, in your posts #344 and #347, namely:
1. On the question of indian astronauts, you point out that it would be too dangerous to permit Modi to be in space at the same time as the female fetuses (since no female would be too young for this thug). That possibility had completely escaped my mind, I must admit. And it is indeed a useful reminder of the hazards of space. And they you provide the solution to this problem: send our mullah fazloo instead!! Viola!! Vous etes le psychologue d`astronaute, mon ami!!
We could give modi and fazloo a condom each which they can either wear as a space helmet, or use to avoid giving one another their respective versions of aids.
2. You point out that while space indians would be expendable, robots would be expensive. Your contributions extend beyond space psychology (per 1. above) and into the realm of space economics too!! Of course you are right. Although no doubt Maruti Robots Inc can make robots cheaper than anyone else (as Engineer Veeresh would no doubt be aware of), they make humans even cheaper. So, clearly, India is well positioned to send manned missions to the moon (with no return fuel needed).

great hearing about your trip to Pakistan. Inspires me for one to India, which is the point after all...dont knock it till you try it. All the self imposed experts on Pakistan and India should not speak one word unless they spend time meeting at least one person a month from the other side and a vacation a year in the others country.
Omar R. Quraishi:
Please get a life:). At least take a trip to India if you want to be the India expert.
wow if its not one of chowk`s editors -- now kkkandk arent you envious, i actually got one of chowk`s hallowed editors to come on the board, under their OWN name, and post -- wow that has to be a first -- dear ms shah, first of all given the fact that we hardly know each other or interacted, your personal tone is a bit unbecoming -- as for being an expert thats precisely my point - i dont pretend to be an india expert and in case you havent been reading dear i have been to india three times (the fourth was due this august but had to miss out on that because of work) since 1998 (and did the walkabouts and met people in high and low places) and said that still i would consider myself far from being an expert -- and its not about being an expert, its about lying -- im sure being in cali you cant possibly grasp the intricacies of life in lahore or karachi so why dont you stay out of such a debate unless you have something to offer other than to step in like a school teacher and chide one of the interactors -- besides i hope i dont live to see the day when a hate filled `travelogue` from someone like the wise one `inspires` me to visit india -- i think he is a pretty bad publicist for his country -- and by the way i hope u dont mind if i dont report to you how many indians were my friends during my college and master`s days or are my friends these days or how many indian journalists i exchanged emails with during my last trip to delhi -- hope that is ok :)
as for me having a life -- thanks very i have one and a pretty good one but thanks for your concern ms shah --
good you posted here because no we all understand just why the wise one is a featured writer on chowk -- i hope your advice to me , ms shah, is not in any way influenced by my frank and fair comments on chowk`s editorial policies, or lack thereof, because if they are that would be sad, wouldnt it ? now it also makes sense why you were such an apologist for the SAJA convention and it not being too representative of south asians in North America

Gee..wonder why the superior product producing Pakis have a trade gap with India? And this is only the offical trade...
Trade gap with Saarc states widens by 77pc
ISLAMABAD, Sept 4: Pakistan`s trade deficit with Saarc-member countries rose by 77 per cent to $87.1 million in the financial year 2003-04 against $20 million over the previous year.
Officials told Dawn on Saturday that the increase in the trade deficit with Saarc-member countries was due to a considerable increase in imports from India followed by Sri Lanka and Bangladesh during the year under review over the previous year`s volume.
The break-up further showed that Pakistan exported goods worth $93.7m to India during the financial year 2003-04 against $70.7m the previous year, showing an in crease of 32.5pc, while Indian exports to Pakistan rose by 129.6pc to $382.4m during the period under review against $166.5m the previous year.
-- shri arjun jee could do with a basic econ course -- imports can rise also if GDP rates increase and capital goods have to be imported or raw materials such as petroleum products - now be a good boy and check that for us will ya
btw kkkandk sahib, there more fun to be had on mr gill`s board where the delhi circus is in full swing

kkandk: i can see a profound and scholarly discussion has taken place. Yes indeed, it would be great if Modi could be the first Indian on the Moon, as you propose (Ha! Ha!). This could also solve that Other Great Indian Problem (giving birth to a girl). Instead of killing the fetus, you could now send all girl fetuses into orbit around the sun. Pita jee and mata jee are happy because they will have only sons. Girls will be happy because they will be astronauts, rather than simply tossed in the garbage dump or whereever girl fetuses are tossed in India. Hell, we pakis could benefit too - we could send all our maulvis, all our politicians, to the planet Venus. Watch the ba!stards roast on that hellish planet.

rsridhar: thanks for the links. however, you have not addressed the basic point i made: namely, that there is a very real issue that many people are raising with respect to the sense behind sending a man to space when robots can do the job at far less cost and complexity. What is your view on this?

re: Why the lunar mission?
http://sify.com/news/scienceandmedicine/fullstory.php?id=13017498
1. (Although Prime Minister Vajpayee’s Government insists that the country’s space program is strictly for non-military uses, some analysts are tempted to think otherwise. Referring to India’s space program, John Pike, a policy analyst with the Federation of American Scientists, commented: ``I think the significance of it has much more to do with India using space for prestige purposes rather than for the science of it. It shows that they’re big country and that they are rich enough to do things they don’t have to do. The core solid-fuel rocket motor on the PSLV would undoubtedly be the rocket motor that they would use to build an ICBM.``)
2. (As Pike noted: ``A PSLV could readily deliver a nuclear warhead over continental distances, if re-engineered as a weapon system.``
By making the PSLV the basis for launching a moon probe, ISRO would be able to further refine its missiles as well as the associated guidance and control systems.
The expertise gained from such a project would prove invaluable, not only for building an ICBM capable of carrying nuclear warheads, but ensuring that it could be accurately targeted.
And yet others are tempted to think of the benefits of resource mining, with the Moon rich in helium 3, which is crucial for fusion energy, a possible next generation source of energy.)
Space seems to be the new frontier for showcasing one`s talents. USA is far ahead in this game. India has only just started to play.
