Tabish had guarded his like a Saudi girl would
I think if you change that WOULD to SHOULD, it will look more realistic.

Much has been said about the article and the author but all I want to say is that after reading the last line of the article I was totally caught up in the moment. May be its becuase of the fact that its a farewell time in my life where I have to let my best buddy go since he is moving back to Pakistan. ``I entered my apartment, quietly closed the door behind me, and laid down on couch exhausted`` these words gave a shiver to my whole body as if I were experiencing the very moment.

Atif,
Absolutely wonderful and readable piece.
Funny as hell, yet realistic.
When is your next writing arriving here on CHOWK?

Since, i cant escape this fact now that this was writer`s first effort. It was a good one. Marriage, friendships, a God encouraging sexual repression thus the anticipations of That first night as the counterpoint - all these elements when put in a desi context can safely provide a recipe for ``humurous`` writing. Humour thus buried in the layers of That context which the writer tries to draw his reader`s attention to and Atif does it very well.
I am wondering if the writer is aware of the works of Yousufi, Colonel Mohammad Khan or Shafeeq-ur-Rehman?

Before this article is burried in the archives of chowk, i want to one last time appreciate all those who commended me. But then again, i am just a narrator. The real credit goes to all those people around me who in the process of living their lives, give me the material to write something.
salim Salim, you keep it up man. Whether you are at chowk, or outside of chowk, I am convinced that you are a man with knowledge, passion and humor. It will be my pleasure to see you getting married. Although, I would still bring the video camera to capture any nationalistic riots that may erupt during the wedding ceremony :)
natasha, syke, jang, garam-chai. umairmalik and others thankyou for your kind comments.
All the best.

Ataf Saab
Thanks for writing good article.I could relate to it very much.

Take it easy, yar. Atif did not mention anything about indians in his article. He did not claim anything that you trying desperately to refute. For your sake, we will admit anything you say, so you can sleep comfortably. That will produce a good environment where most of us can enjoy our precious life, and dont waste time on trivial issues.

Hi Atif,
This was sooo enjoyable! I was laughing througout and have read it at least half-a-dozen times. It felt genuinely honest!
It`s obviously not the same but the conclusion reminded me of how I miss my friends from college...so far away now...each searching and trying to find their own role in life. I hope I will get to read more of such pieces.

finally, folks here are talking something else (bhangra) other than the unpluggers being nice-nice to each other and scowling at veeresh.
atif2 since you are in beantown, look-up the MIT bhangra team (the true Techno Bhangra).
http://web.mit.edu/bhangra/www/teaching-bhangra.html
It is just super since it hardly has any panjabis. It mostly consists of Gultis (Andhra Amrican-Inidan kids studying at MIT), Chinese and some homogenized european ancestry folks. they beat their own drums and really know how to get the crowd going. Being techies, they have de-constructed bhangra into a small set of orthogonal basis steps. Using these steps, they train new entrants in an hour or so (being at MIT they are very busy with academics..very few are doing liberal arts u c! even those on Agakhan Scholarship for Islamic Architecture have to study hard). I have seen a real hood fly-girl do a mean bhangra in an hour by following their technic. Once you master the basis steps, all other steps are mere combinations.
it is amazing to see what happens to an art-form practiced for ages without much brain-use by sardars, (and pakis hanging on to their pre-47 culture) gets a dose of thinking.
