Here is your exercise for the next couple of years. Repeat 100 times a day ``Vyazhak kizhamai ezhaik kizhavan vazhaip pazham thindran``.

That would be of help in overcoming your handicap.

No, it is not ``Visalak kilamai elaik kilavan valaip palam thindran``.

Much as Agastya the Brahmin Sage had to come down south of the Vindhyas to write a grammar for the Tamil language, I shall endeavor to get you to pronounce ``zh`` correctly.

Please post a .wav file daily on Chowk of you reading out the above sentence so that I can honestly appraise you of your progress.

It certainly won`t be the Reddiars, the Thevars and the Gounders rushing into marriages with the Dalits.

``Monkey see, monkey do`` is not going to advance the country or the profession. Exactly how many PhD`s have these guys earned in Computer Science, your chosen profession? Coding for $10 an hour is like working in the cane fields of Fiji or the Caribbean a couple of generations ago: selling yourselves cheap.

How do you explain the fact that Muslims who ruled the country for 1000 years were given a 5% reservation in Andhra before the courts threw it out? Shouldn`t you and Doctor Artist Leader the Fund of Compassion be leading the charge against Muslims instead of joining them for the iftar feast?

WHIZKID SET TO CREATE WORLD RECORD
12-year-old gets BCA admission

FROM PUJAA AWASTTHI
DH NEWS SERVICE

For 12-year-old Shailendra Verma, born to a daily wage labourer father and an illiterate mother, life certainly starts early. The lad is all poised to become the world’s youngest computer undergraduate, as he has secured admission to the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) course at Lucknow University (LU).

Shailendra, who cleared his class 10 exams at the age of seven and class 12 exams at age 11, it feels is ike a dream “almost fulfiled”. The wisp of doubt is attributable to the boy’s circumstances, as his father earns only about Rs 70 on days when there is work. The youngster had some intermittent schooling, but never really enjoyed it. “I was always the youngest student in class and the butt of all jokes. While some students would pinch my cheeks, others would treat me as a plaything. The syllabus was never up to my standard as I knew most of it through self-study”, he says with a hint of pride. His father, Tej Bahadur Verma, who has studied till class 8 recalls the day his son disclosed to him his intention of taking the class 10 exams.

“He was only seven and no institution or board would admit him. I sought help from the then chief minister Rajnath Singh. On his intervention Shailendra was allowed to write his exams from the National Open School. He aggregated 55 per cent with 80 per cent in English,” said Mr Verma.

Shailendra then went on to clear his class 12 exams besides notching up decent scores in TOEFEL and SAT, that got him admitted to the BCA course in the Eastern New Mexico University, USA. But for a family that cannot even afford a train ride, America was too far away. It’s a familiar concern that worries them yet again. Even at LU, since the BCA course is a self-finance course, freeships are not permitted. With an annual fee of Rs 25,000 he requires thrice that amount to just pay his fees and more for books.

Harimau, did you or did you not have an intrinsic belief in yourself that you will succeed if you work hard? Why do you think you had that belief?

Would a person from a lower caste with centuries of drumming into his head that he is dumb have the same belief in himself as you do?

[Harimau, you ought to cool down dude. the so called ``masanamuthu`` has been
much more sophisticated than you. You should not let emotions get the better of
rational thinking.]

Senthamizh Selvan, to distinguish him from Masanamuthu aka Soysauce, has been polite in his exchanges but it doesn`t mean that he doesn`t labor under false assumptions about my background, including that there were a bunch of engineers and doctors in my family, either to provide role models or to ``ease my way`` in some way or another.

I just met a brahmin who owns about 100 acres of land in the Cauvery delta. He recently retired from a government job as a deputy general manager. This man fits the image of Senthamizh Selvan`s image of a prosperous brahmin with all the advantages in life.

His son just earned his PhD from MIT in Theoretical Computer Science and his daughter is working towards her PhD in Operations Research at MIT.

Did MIT admit these two kids because they had advantages in life? With all the advantage conferred by wealth, why did they have to work their butts off to go to MIT, a very selective school? Have Doctor Artist Leader the Fund of Compassion`s children (through multiple simultaneous wives and concubines) distinguished themselves in any way except as street thugs? Or for that matter, the children of the beneficiaries of quota systems?

Has Dr. Love Queen, the daughter of Murasoli Maran, got one single paper to her credit in an academic/professional journal? Do you think Love Queen, Jr. would be an improvement on her mom?

Re various posts of Senthamizh Selvan

The newspapers reported yesterday that a former Commissioner of Police of Chennai was sentenced to a week`s imprisonment for contempt of court for filing a false affidavit against a defendant in a criminal case.

It was further reported that this particular police official was already under suspension for graft and corruption, with unaccounted and unaccountable wealth and property.

The police official`s name is Muthukaruppan.

I would make bold to say he is not a brahmin.

Re Urstruly on his various posts about the lack of opportunities for Indian Muslims

About a year ago, it was discovered that someone has been printing counterfeit stamp paper. The total amount involved was Rs. 30,000 crores, which translates to about US$6.6 billion.

The person involved is named Abdul Karim Telgi. From his name, I would make bold to say that he is not one of the oppressive Hindu majority of India.

One of his accomplices is a senior police official of Tamil Nadu named Muhammad Ali. I would hazard a guess that he is not a Hindu either.

Who said Indian Muslims are slow to adopt modern technology?

[Indian Muslim divorces wife by email
By Lester Haines
Published Monday 1st November 2004 15:53 GMT

Indian Muslim clerics have the rather tricky task of deciding whether an email sent by a US-based husband divorcing his wife in India is valid, the Hindustan Times reports.

Rahat Iqbal married Rubab in 1998. He left for the US shortly thereafterafter, promising to call for her in three weeks. Six long years later, she received her official email notification of divorce from the absent Rahat.

Clerics are now debating the validity of Rahat`s e-divorce. Maulana Khalid Rashid stated that since emails contained no signature, the husband would need to authenticate the missive - preferably by calling her to confirm his intentions. Furthermore, the email must adhere to the ``triple talaq`` principle - whereby a wife can be disposed of if her spouse repeats ``talaq`` (``I divorce thee`` or thereabouts) three times.

However, Maulana Akhtar Raza Khan decreed that ``divorce should be handwritten and the wife should recognize the handwriting``, thereby putting paid to the digital quickie divorce. Furthermore, Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad considered email termination ``absolutely illegal``, adding that the triple talaq scheme is widely accepted only among Sunni Muslims.

Interestingly, the Hindustan Times notes that ``Malaysia, which was facing a massive problem of divorce through SMS and e-mail, has banned such divorces``. ®]

Divorce through SMS! Wow! Those messages are inexpensive to send, just about one rupee a message.

Urstruly, eat your heart out.
