Dr. Isa,

If you had to give any sacrifice for uncovering some of the dark stuff going on with these fake institutes, you have my deepest respect and gratitude. People like you are the only hope we are left with.

Not to be left behind, here`s how some of the SMALL BOYS get degrees!

Daily Times, 4 December, 2004

Tragedy wrought to its uttermost

Sir: After I started writing about fake degrees in 2003, a young lad managing the computer systems in my university in Lahore sent me his account of obtaining a BA degree. I believe this is not atypical.

The recent emails especially regarding fake degrees I received from Dr Isa gave me strength to write about my personal experience with Pakistans education system. I am unfortunately related to an IT market which is sinking by the day. Anyway, I graduated from an institute which is affiliated with the University of the Punjab.

In my sixth semester, I was somehow convinced by my seniors to appear for the university BA examination as a private candidate to get an additional bachelors degree. I thought it was not a bad idea and enrolled for the exams but never prepared for them since my main objective was to obtain a BCS degree from PU.

I selected Education, Journalism and Statistics as my majors. But until the day my exams began, I had no notes or handouts. I had nothing at all to prepare from. Convinced that I would flunk, I sat through the examination, using my general knowledge to answer the questions.

As far as I remember, every answer that I wrote was bogus, substandard and did not make sense. I usually heard from people that in BA, its the number of sheets a student consumes that counts, not the subject matter. Anyway, keeping that in my mind, I attached as many sheets (full of words) as I could.

You will be amazed to know that when the result was announced I was declared successful. I didnt believe it. My success in the exam shocked me and I wondered if the guy who checked papers was actually qualified for his job or not. From this, one can imagine the quality of education and the kind of graduates produced in the country. I am a graduate, like many others, with a BA degree, even though I did not prepare for my exams!

You read this and ask, Whats new? Indeed, thats the tragedy and its time we stopped demeaning our degrees.

Here is a letter from Dawn of 2 Nov, 2004, which may be of interest.

HEC: why this belated move?

A few days back the Higher Education Commission (HEC) mentioned, in various
newspapers, more than 50 universities which are operating illegally. One
wonders as to where the HEC was when these universities were established.
Why were NOCs issued to these universities when it was known that these
universities could not operate before meeting certain requirements laid down
by the HEC?

Now, what`s the fault of the boys and girls who are studying in these
universities? Where has their parents hard-earned money gone?

Dear daudpota and others :
I think and I will be commenting on Pakistan`s Education System only ; Pakistan`s Educational Reforms are a step into a right direction . If we remember Higher Education Reforms and Aga Khan Board they are certainly moving slowly but surely and in the end of the day I am sure we will acheieve if not same standards of Primary and Secondry Education but close enough . I am not concern about the education system * both higher and lower * in Big Cities ( Karachi , Lahore and Islamabad ) but concerned about teh quality of Education in Rural Pakistan there need to be more checks and balances . The New Minister for Education is a good man and have a good track record I hope he brings a positive change Insh`Allah .
thanks you for your article on education Mr.Daudpota

Dear #11 and others:

No point being so pessimistic about this affair. It is important that we act and help change the dire situation. You may end up with a physician or, worse, a surgeon, who has got a fake degree. You may be on a bridge designed by an engineer who cannot do a simple problem in `statics`. One of these days that bridge is going to fall. And you may get your leg chopped off by a fradulent surgeon.

It is bad enough having sub-standard universities which are chartered by Pakistan`s Higher Education Commission (HEC), far worse to have people get mere paper degrees which can be used to get jobs. Both these problems require attention.

It is important that the HEC is pressured in the media to get its act together. It needs to look more closely at quality of education that is imparted rather than rush daily into the national headlines announcing new programs. Here is an organization that has more money than it can handle sensibly. It is time that an independent body, appointed by the national assembly, audited HEC`s guardianship of the country`s universities.

The problem in India is serious too. See my piece: ``Beware of the fake degree``, BusinessWorld, India, www.businessworldindia.com/Jan2604/index.asp .

In a country where education is considered ` good business ` things like fake degree`s are understandable -
let me give you a food for taught ,
in KARACHI University one could easily make a fake degree attested by one the dean of university and they would confirm the degree once when someone will ask KU to check the degree - this now is very difficult is still happening and done by some of the lower grade staff of Karachi University who are sitting in Admin Block today - they used to charge Rs.20000 for Arts Degree and Rs.30000 for a Science Degree - now the rates has sky rocketed thanks to new checks and balances in almost every government institution -
go to University of Jam Sharo ( forgive my spellings ) the rates are more cheaper and there is more corruption -
Smart , I was one of the first student of Aptech Batch CF200010F - eACCP - Dr.Junaid who used to be my dads mate ( as he ( Dr.Junaid ) is a friend of every IB and Law Enforcement Officer - happens to be one of the biggest fruadster in Karachi - one example is of his links with some of the Indians Businessmen in Bangladesh who were suspecious secondly, he left APIIT ( now owned by City School) - Aptech still is running is a what I call a ` Legit Fraud ` fooling Upper - Middle Class and Upper Class of Karachi specially - anyhow this happens every where - we still are a young country

Very seriously if you talk about to cover these kind of problem in USA and UK then i can say that they will cover it with in year or may be less. But if you talk about to cover this shity problem in pakistan then i can bet you cannt manage to cover it for your whole life untill or unless Govt. doesn`t take any step against private colleges to make them register with Govt.
Simply talk about APTECH COMPUTER EDUCATION CENTER my own institute in past not presently it was past

Well when you go there to conculing they will take you to the world of dream and you will start believing them and that will be turning point of your luck
simply they are offereing some certificates when the person who is sitting in front of you guiding you when he/she (moslty she)notice that you are not getting convince at any point (in spite of time the course which they are offerening is very strong but still with that heavy fee its worthless untill they don`t offer you degree)she/she will start telling you there affilation with SOUTHERN UNI in AUSTRALIA and this is ridiculous there you will start getting convince you will start believing because they will offer you like this
``if you don`t make your career here in pakistan though we will be responsible for your job after your course or during your course you will able to trasnfer your study hour from pakistan to australia``and after spending 3 most spcious year of your life in the end they will kick you out with worthless certifacte in your hand. That dirty things convince a one young student to go towards wrong side and then he tries to find some shortcut
Thank GOD i already was graduate
In the end i will say again its allmost impossible to stop making fake degrees in pakistan

Just out of curiosity, from where you got yours?? Coz its not only in Pakistan, here in west plenty of one room universities are also rewarding degrees to those who can buy.

By writing such a stupid article on a board like this you are putting yours and all other Pakistanis legitimate credentials under radar.
Oh Lord; save us from so called literate people with no common sense.

WOW..thats was very informative..thanks very much for enlighting us!..i always thought NIML..was a bit dodgy now my suspicions have been confirmed!
I think its institutions like these which give prestigious Universities such as Quaid e Azam University a bad name..as they have been linked together in the past..
I think the students who do not know about the fraud and invalidity of there degrees are the ones who are suffering the most.
