Mr Ali, very nice article...informative and to the point. I hope more people will come forward and write about areas like Lalookhati, Landhi, Malir, NazimAbad...etc.
In response to what Labyrinth1 said, I think all these parties are Equaly responsible for all this mess in Lyari and other poor areas/slums. In most cases these parties support these elements (people) in order to get a strong hold in the area. Like MQM did, or People`s Party (PPP) in some areas.

Layari is home to what we call ` Makranis of Karachi and Pakistan ` thats what this place is famous for . These people are involved in all sorts of sports from boxing to football and cycling - and donkey cart racing .
About your post Veersh Bhai Layari had always been a PPP ( Pakistan Peoples Party ) strong hold where this party had always won - these rouge elements in Layari is not supported by hardcore political parties these people are working quitely and they just disappear. So if you are thinking these elements are supported by any political party I am afraid you are mistaken.

This indeed is noble effort in bringing to light the dark side of lyari. This is another proof that police and establishment cannot solve any social problem, if fact they are part of it. It is upto the general population to start thinking about it. And articles like these will some day have an effect to make this chnage.

Question: Why doesn`t an exodus back to the rural areas start, then?

which continue to suffer from neglect.

Finally, somebody has the balls to say how aweful life is getting in parts of Karachi, and telling it like it is. This sort of stuff is not just restricted to Lyari, it happesn in Laloo keth, Lanchore Line, and Post Office Society, as well as many others. Something needs to be done, and the first step is awareness. This article is a step in that direction.
