Thanks for the wish Ahsan, although my birthday was 5 months ago and is 7 months away. But it`s the thought that counts. ;)

malik:

I am rooting for the time when e-existance completely envelopes my life.

last night on larry badhshah kristie allen (sp) (of cheers) was asked how she blossomed from 115 to over 280 lbs...

she said she cut herself off from the outside...stayed in home... and only ventured out to take her kids to schools and back...

...there is a point in there somewhere that eludes me;)

Re: # 8 Of course I wouldn`t generalize what I mentioned. There should be a line between the computerized and physical world though and once you cross that, you`re living in a digital dungeon without realizing the effect it`s having on personal relationships. I`m sure you agree with that? If not, then you`re truly an example of the point I was trying to make. No hard feelings! Say Hi to Uncle Qureishi and try not to scratch your butt while talking to him. It could scare people around you.

I am rooting for the time when e-existance completely envelopes my life.

I cannot even begin to imagine how our ancestors lived without e-communication. Are you telling me that they had to actually go see a person everytime they wanted to say something to that peson?!

Telephones arrived. Now I did not have to dress up and comb my hair to get ready each time Uncle Qureshi wanted to talk to me. Now we could simply talk to each other while scratching our butts from the privacy of our respective bedrooms.

Then it so happened that humanity wanted to communicate with each other, without actually communicating. In came the invention called ``answering machine``. Now, if Uncle Qureshi called to say that he was coming to visit me that evening, I could pretend that I did not get that message until I came home later that night. The phrase ``keep in touch`` was born. This phrase basically meant ``lets keep each other informed that we still live, but really there is no need for any extensive communication``

Emails arrived as a God send solution to my problem that I wanted to communicate without actually having to hear Uncle Qureshi`s voice. That worked out well - in fact, better than phone, since it eased my challenges of having to think in real-time over phone any excuses as to why I could not visit Uncle and aunt Qureshi that evening.

Mobile phones, while meant to communicate from everywhere and anywhere, robbed me of my liberty to keep a distance from people. But viola! then came the text messaging, and now i could use my mobile phone to send messages , in effect saying ``I am communicating with you without bothering you or myself from holding the phone to our ears and frankly you are not that important that would warrant me calling you so take it for what it is worth``.
