urstruly #192 You can call Dr. Salam a laanti, consistent with your use of strong language as substitute for common sense, but that says nothing about him and a lot about you.
This is common sense - Dr. Salam made original contributions by furthering mankind`s parimeters of knowledge (by predicting the existence of subatomic particles), and for this reason received the nobel prize (in addition to over two dozen doctorates from universities around the world, as well as numerours awards including knighthood from UK, Order of the Istiqlal from Jordan, as well as other nations. Dr. Salam was a patriotic Pakistani, serving as Chief Scientific Adviser to the President throughout the 1960`s, and received the Sitara-i-Pakistan as well as the Pride of Performance Medal. You may not think he was a good manager, but the UN and the President of Pakistan beg to differ, appointing him Chairman of major agencies.
Dr. Qadeer`s claim to fame is that he violated his contractual agreement with his employer by stealing their nuclear secrets.
Only a brain-dead individual would begin to compare the two men in any sphere - intellectual, moral or as patriotic Pakistanis.

//....can any reasonable person believe that AQ Khan stole centrifuges from KRL and shipped them off to other countries without the army knowing it?...//
That`s right - nobody believes it. Nuke proliferation has been part of the paki ``strategy`` for a long time ..... everybody knew about it and it`s official now. Even Benazir Bhutto admits it.
So Never mind Closet-Mullah32 says. After 9/11, with his bu@@ in line of fire, Closet-Mullah32 has turned his coat. To be fair - a lot of pakis have done so.

So pakiland is the last front of defense against ``american colonial engines`` ?? Even though America is controlling pakiland since the beginning??
And who told you future is Asian? Just because Indians can write code and chinese can make toys and pakis can make bombs out of stolen designs???
What are you smoking man - afgan grass? Some strong grass you got there. M0r0n!!

urstruly #190 iqbal also said ``baatil say darnay waalay ai aasmaN nahiN ham``. Strong language and abuse is no substitute for the truth.
I presented you with some facts which you have refused to address directly. The plain and simple fact (which you can easily verify if you were really interested in the truth) is that Qadeer enriched himself by selling Pakistani nuclear secrets. Of course there were others in cahoots with him in the government - but there were also hundreds of honest, patriotic pakistanis (exemplified by the late head of AEC) who contributed far more to this project than this man - and they did it without promoting themselves before the press.
As I said, educate yourself or join the ignorant maulvis who have time and again been proven wrong in every stupid stand they have taken - whether it was their opposition to the creation of Pakistan in 1947, or their attempt to popular votes in Pakistan in the years after that.

I am shocked by the naivity of those who are calling AQ Khan a ``traitor``. Aside from the fact that AQ Khan has done more for Pakistan than ALL of us chowkies combine, it is really sad to see him being denigraded like that - just because a dictator said so.
In addition to what Urstruly has mentioned in his post about the intense security that always surrounded KRL, I will add that AQ Khan himself was under the tightest of the security. He lived in almost utter isolation. The house that he had in sector E-7 of Islamabad, was surrounded from both sides and back by intentionally vacant houses. So he had virtually no neighbours.
In addition, each time he would leave his house, it was in the form of a 5-7 car motorcade which would whisk him from point A to point B. Even his daughters, who in the late 80s / early 90s used to live in the same house, would not go for evening walk without 3-5 security agents surrounding them.
The area around Kahuta has some of the strictest security mechanism IN THE WORLD. You can`t even get close enough to see the campus before you WILL be stopped and checked.
Under these conditions, can any reasonable person believe that AQ Khan stole centrifuges from KRL and shipped them off to other countries without the army knowing it? Did he put those multi-tonne heavy centrifuges in his car?
Its not as if those centrifgues are lying around KRL like you see spare parts in a car workshop. They are built for use over number of years, and it is laughingly funny to assume that even ONE went missing without anyone knowing it.

manto,
``Now... thanks to these bastards... not only do we have to worry about a nuclear armed
neighbor to the east but also possibly one to the west... meanwhile ... this brotherly Islamic country is entering into alliances with our eastern neighbor every day... ``
Your views are archaic, and that is perhaps why Iran is starting cooperation in spite of Pakistani discomfort on the matter. The fact is, the most eminent threat does not come from Tehran or New Delhi, but from geopolitical uber powers that would want to use the three against each other.
It is high time for some sort of bloc to emerge that stretches (at least) from Iran to China lest the Europeans and Americans restart their old colonial engines. As far as I can tell, Pakistan is the only wrench in the gear. The future is Asian, the white man knows it and is scared sh*tless. Already, Mr. Kissinger is on TV talking about the potential of using India as a possible bullwark against China. BS!!!
Despite my hatred of India`s past Kashmir policy, it is certainly in both countries best interest to accept the status quo and move on. In the grand scheme of things, the potential for this anomosity to be used for other`s gain is too great.

aslam644 #193: That is interesting and impressive. I had never heard of them before........PCs are a cut-throat market with very tiny profit margins........Very hard to compete with the Dells of the world..........Even IBM gave up........
The big Pakistani name in this area is (was), of course, Safi Qureshy. He started AST at 29 and sold it at 42(?). At its peak, AST had revenues of 2.2 billion dollars and was in the Fortune 500. The only Pakistani in any field, to have this honor. Being the founder and CEO of a Fortune 500 company is about as big as one can get. So one Pakistani guy starts a company in his garage with his two friends (A&T - Safi being the S), and has revenues 20 times the whole software industry of Pakistan. Just shows you, what one can achieve in the right environment........
He is a VC now, and doing philanthrapy in Pakistan. He was on Arnold`s transition team in California and was an advisor to Clinton on China...........I read somewhere that he came to the USA, because he couldn`t get into NED.........

I am afraid the focus on this board is shifting from technology to theology so back to technology. Not many people outside the UK know the biggest high street pc retailer is time computers owned by tariq mohammed & his brothers, with 180 stores and a pc manufacturing plant its giving the likes of DELL a run for their money.

Re: # 178 Dost
The SUPARCO (Space & Upper Atmosphere Research CorP of Pak) of the 80s became very different from that of 60s when Dr. Salam was its Chairman. In 60s SUPARCO was sending weather setallites while in 80s it was researching on spy satellite and Missile systems with nuclear payload. It is a well known fact that ISI and other intelligence agencies considered Dr. Salam a security risk because of his religious beliefs coupled with his dubious activities post 1974 era as detailed in the article.
In my opinion, Dr. Salam was a theoretical physicist and not a manager. Dr. Qadeer on the other hand had extraordinary management and organizational skills, which most scientists usually lack. Dr. Qadeer was a hustler, a go-getter, and a get-it-done kinda guy. He gathered a team around him that shared his attributes and habbits. Dr. Salam was a misfit in Pakistan. With lack of research facilities and capital, it would have been a great loss for science had he been put on a useless post on a revolving chair signing employee vacations. Despite all that I do not think that Dr. Salam was a laanti, probably because his potential to harm us was well contained in time. You cannot condemn someone on the assumptions of having bad intentions only.

``2. It is a part of psychological warfare. When a powerful nation overwhelms a weaker nation it humiliates it. It has to. It strips it off all that it has been taking pride in. It stripps them of their history and it stripps them off their values.``
Just replace `powerful nation` with `ruthless invading marauders` and `weaker nation` with
`divided people` and we have pakistanis like you and many others.
How come you do not blame those perpetrators?

Reply to various:
Allama Iqbal once said that when the mind of a nation or people is in vassalage of another nation, all that is good becomes bad for them and all that is bad becomes good for them. Fauji haramkhor want the whole nation to believe what is nothing but a collosal bulshit and those fifth columnists who are ideological allies of neo-colonialists are propogating this lie.
It is a well known fact and truth that KRL was the most closely gurded secret of Pakistan. A friend of mine whose older brother was a low level payroll clerk at KRL was always escorted by two secret agents whenever he came home from KRL. On the night of his wedding the secret agents spent night outside in the tents outside his house. It is no brainer that all the phone and other communication to and from his house between any member of the family would have been closely monitored.
This gives a hint as to what Dr. Qadeer`s security would be like. So a lie such as that he was running an international smuggling ring of nuclear proliferation without the notice of ISI, Military Intelligence, FIA, CIA, SSG, MODC, FIU, GOP, GHQ and 50 other security agencies of Pakistan, who were not only charged with protecting Dr. Qadeer`s life but also his family`s as well, is a collosal bullshit that only brain damaged vegetables would believe it.
The fact of the matter is that even if Dr. Qadeer has transferred technology to any country of the world then it was done with the full approval of the government. It is Pakistan`s technology and it is Pakistan`s right to provide it to any one on its own descretion. Pakistan is not a signatory to any regulatory agency so it is not answerable to anyone.
The fact of the matter is that the American and neo-colonial propaganda machinery is feeding this dis-information to people of Pakistan and Muslims for two reasons:
1. To give an impression to the people that Iran and Libya have spilled beans (lie) and humilaited Pakistan (lie), so that when neo-colonials attack either country there is no one in Paksitan who has a soft corner for these countries. Divide and rule. The oldest and dirtiest trick of colonial powers.
2. It is a part of psychological warfare. When a powerful nation overwhelms a weaker nation it humiliates it. It has to. It strips it off all that it has been taking pride in. It stripps them of their history and it stripps them off their values. Fuaji haramkhors have turned themselves into that mirasi who tells joke to please chaudry and Chaudri shows his pleasure by hitting mirasi with his khussa on his head. The mirasi runs after the khussa and brings it back in his two hands and present it to the chaudry and bows his head and says ``do hor maro``.

Or you can join the rest of the half-brained maulvis in making a hero out of this self-promoter who has jeopardized this sacred task of protecting Pakistan. After all, no one accused the maulvis of being rational.
prophet tahmed(pbuy)...that`s like pakis saying, post 9/11, they never supported jihad...A simpel google search of all references to A.Q. Khan in Pakistani newspapers will show that he was regarded as a hero and the father of the Islamic bomb by the vast majority of Pakis...Now that he`s being ``debriefed`` and his photocopying activities are out in the open, you backtrack and say only the maulvis thought he was a hero?
That`s pretty lame...

``If you have a growing economic pie, there is plenty for everyone and there is less incentive to adopt the back door techniques to get ahead. Also the salary of police, judicial officials is high which results in a lack of incentive to be corrupt. There is really no other way to get rid of it. All this talk of revolution is bogus. If you have a paltry salary as a policeman, of course you will use your position to ask for a bribe to get some economic relief. If you made a lot, why would you bother with petty bribes? ``
``If you made a lot, why would you bother with petty bribes?``
You wont bother for petty bribes, you will go for major kills like ``the stamp case`` in which several high profile officers of the Maharashtra police were arrested.
Thats the reason several crores of rupees in cash was found in the apt of the excise commis (?).
Several lacs were found in the car of Police housing officer.
There was this judge who was taking money from Dawood to dispense ``justice``, now he is absconding.
These are the ``unfortunate`` ones who got caught, I am very sure there are thousands of them all over the country sucking its blood like leeches.
Greed has no limit. The growing economic pie will only increase their appepite.

And before someone blames your use of the term ``Islamic bomb`` on an attempt to malign the land of the pure,
