Anil ## Did you start Serus? Just curious.........
Also, could I request you to take some time to answer some questions, about the current VC market as well as certain business issues ....
Are you familiar with IT services in the financial industry.........After 9/11 and Enron/MCI, there seems to be a lot of money being spent on Compliance issues in the financial industry. These compliance issues directly involve IT depts. SOX and Basel II and Patriot Act etc. require financial institutions to spend a lot of money in this area: it is in the hundreds of million to billions of dollars......
There is currently no software systems to handle this. Microsoft has a rudimentary product on this.......It is more of a software process improvement area........Financial institutions are ill-prepared for this, since there IT depts generally have never been forced by legal restrictions to improve their processes. Their motivations have normally been CMM, ISO etc., which are voluntary..............

Dost-Mittar: Thanks for the reply.......
I think the Punjabi language is just about dead. I have asked the meanings of certain words, across four different countries, to various people. All of them Punjabi speakers. None of them have been able to find the meanings of all of them.............And there is no Punjabi dictionary on the web, that is any good..........And none that I have been able to find in the market...............
Here are some more for translation:
trakaleon
daliaan
vallissii
Doesn`t gith mean horizon....
And luun luun (not loonhr as in salt) mean every corner, i.e every inch......

manto - you have gone about abusing me without answering my question:
If we can ``regulate`` alcohol for tax, safety, tourist and other reasons you put forth, why can`t we do the same with child prostituition? After all, whether you like it or not, child prostituition is HAPPENING in Pakistan. So why don`t we attract some tourists that way (thousands of men from europe /america flock to vietnam, philipines in search of children), regulate that trade, create safe conditions for kids, and collect tax / tourist revenue in the process etc etc.
You see the half-ass logic of your argument now?
And yes, I am much more knowledgeable about WHY america went into Prohibition and why it came out of it. I have studied it deeper than you have. So you can`t fool me on that one like you do by twisting the meanings of JInnah`s speeches to suite your agenda.

Malik99...
Not very lit up are you? Before you go on accusing me... I think every one knows what my agenda is and that is a prosperous Pakistan... so lets not start by accusing me of forwarding any agenda... you on the other hand do have an agenda... to declare anyone who doesn`t agree with you a jewish agent. This you chaps have been doing for a while... doesn`t matter though.... in the larger scheme of things... people like you become insignificant... and are cast aside.
Now coming to the NEWEST gem... Please inform me how you are going to TAX prostitution or child prostitution for that matter?
There is no moral equivalence between the exploitation of a child .... which is a whole other human being.... and a person`s decision to drink. Anyone who makes an equivalence is an idiot... the Quran and Islam certainly doesn`t... it does warn against alcohol and calls upon the believer from refraining from it but it draws no moral equivalence so stop twisting Islam to suit your agenda.
If you have any understanding of America`s history with prohibition you certainly don`t show it. You are one of those ignorant people who think listening to the Mullah in the mosque on friday makes up for not making an effort to understand life or Islam or both.
Did you study the history of Prohibition at Zaytuna ?

PS: Those who think they can eradicate alcohol are idiots. As shown in my earlier post... Alcohol consumption has grown disproportionately in Pakistan since the ban in 1979... what is more is that it is now cheaper for the middle class.... so more people are indulging in it.... meanwhile the Government is making nothing out of it by way of taxation.

As far as I know... and I read it some article posted here on Chowk... Israel and Ireland are way ahead of the game. I might be wrong... but I thought that article was more credible as far I know.

malik99:
alcohol consumption is no longer something left for the elite to delve in.
in urban areas, by far, the largest consumers of alcohol are the middle and lower class youths.
and because of laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol, you end up with hundreds who die from drinking the most readily available brand - home/shack made brews. and a larger quantity of alcohol will be consumed when it`s consumption is tied to a `rejection of authority or a ban`.
the ban destroys the need to legislate the quality of a brew. the people keep demanding more and more, the limited suppliers can`t keep up so they manufacture poison.
All because of a ban. That`s the `local` reason for lifting the ban. The ban is a serious health hazard.
Secondly, every foreigner, whether they drink lots or small, criticizes Pakistan for not having it readily available. So it does effect the tourist trade.
You should be more supportive of the choice to have a bud and watch a game. A choice that you have.

manto writes `` you on the other hand do have an agenda... to declare anyone who doesn`t agree with you a jewish agent. This you chaps have been doing for a while... ``
This is a classic Manto-esque argument - lump any argument any reasonable person makes on chowk with the antiquated mullah arguments (harnessing energy from djinns, for instance) and declare victory.
Now, instead of hallucinating, why don`t you cut and paste EVEN ONE INSTANCE where I have called you a Jewish agent. Otherwise, take a chill pill and stop flattering yourself!!

Such fine arguments are beyond comprehension for those who have learnt their ``Logic`` from Shaikh Hamza Yusuf.

Malik99:
Islam and morality should take a backseat when it comes to matters of personal choice. What is more important to you, JS Mill`s concepts of liberty and freedom:
1) freedom to think what you want
2) freedom to act upon what you think
3) freedom to have mutually consentual relationships with whoever you want
as long as you do not physically harm someone else.
or
do you prefer to limit choice like you sound you do?

Now he is going to accuse you of being a enslaved mind to the west...
Had he read J S Mill... do you think he would be equating Child exploitation to harmless drinking?

Manto:
I am sure that once one reads JS Mill, one will automatically realize the logic and simplicity of his arguments and be able to contrast it with the faulty logic of those who claim that humanity was at it`s peak in the 7th century and that acts of injustice cannot are license for suppressing the right for personal choice.
