PESHAWAR, Dec 31: Pakistan is one of those countries that have failed to
curb the rising trend of sexual abuse of children. Society is shy
towards the matter and reluctant to take it as an issue……


``The powerful abusers try to influence the police and doctors to wash
away all traces of their crimes,`` he said……

In the year 2000, the doctor said, people had reported 2,309 cases of
sexual abuse all over the country and added that 297 of them were killed
by abusers. Some of them were incest cases, he pointed out. Giving a
break-up, he said that 529 of the victims were female. The crime graph
showed an upward trend in rural parts of Sindh and Punjab, where people
deemed it fit to remain silent over the tragedy, he added.

``Over 83 per cent abusers are either neighbours, or acquaintance or
relatives of the victims. Only 13 per cent are strangers,`` he said.

Dr Tufail said that 50 per cent victims were under 15 which he described
as the most vulnerable age group. The gang-rape figure was also high
during the year under review, he added.

He said that video game centres, snooker clubs, cinema houses and bus
terminals were areas where abusers mainly hunted their prey.

Pornographic sites on Internet, he added, were attracting youngsters
into exploration of and doing experiments with their bodies.]



Although, you cannot blame people like ali.

Not very long ago the attention of such witch-hunters were the Sikhs. Every Sikh was called an `aatankwaadi`. Hundreds of innocent Sikhs were butchered in Delhi and other places in India in 1984. All because of a Beant Singh or Bhindrawale? Are they representative of the Sikh community and its desires? Similarly, is Imam Bukhari, or the ``top Maulivi from UP`` or Shams from Patna representative of the aspirations of 150 million strong IM community? Or even Sania Mirza for that matter? Come on ! Let me decide who represents me and my aspirations! Dont force your choices on me. And I will not ask you to choose from a rabid Togadia, a dishonoured Lt.Cdr.Raj Kumar or a pacifist Swami Agnivesh as the ``real`` Hindu. And while we are on allegations and ``alleged facts``, may I remind you of the allegations against the seers of Kanchi (Senior and Junior both). They `represent` (aah, that representative again !) an important Mutt, a large section of the Hindus. Now should that lead to all Hindus being called murderers and frauds? ! Definitely not. I would disagree with anyone who does that.
