This is the Manto story which I enjoy the most--strictly from the `technical` art of story telling.

Such craftsmanship, such restrained nuclear fission--like cadmium rods carefully being removed, replaced, and pooled in an atomic reactor.

Yasser. Please read it. Once you get hooked to it, you will continue to read it throughout your life--and savour it afresh!

To think that Manto was only in his thirty`s when he wrote this. Such observation, such meticulous detail, such empathy!

Oh WOW!

Certianly a Ghalib of prose.

and then they spare no effort to convince the Ba Ba Blacksheep that it they can talk in totaa-mainaa accents, walk like a crow in swan attire, and discover the alternate use of their orifices--they can have an IQ above those from the Madressaas & Urdu-mediums.

I share Manto`s skepticism of Firdausi-e-Islam Hafeez Jallundhuri...

Pakistan`s first national anthem was written by that brilliant Hindu Urdu poet Jagganath Azad... it was this national anthem that was approved by the founding father and which represented the true ethos of Pakistan...

And yet that original national anthem had no reference to Islam... which is why Firdausi-e-Islam had to take over in 1950s....

Khalid, non urdu reading literature lovers will remain thankful to you.Translation is excellent.Perhaps giving the shayri part in original also will add to the flavour.

Was it same Hafeez Jalandhari who wrote the famous nazm``abhi to maiN jawaan hooN`` sung by Mallika Pukhraj?
