You may be `prejudiced` but you are very reasonably prejudiced. The way all of us should aspire to be. Can a person without any prejudices at all even be real?
`Productivity` results when reality is combined with goodness. So I have every hope.

When I say ``our`` I meant Muslims in India because coming into the fold of the UCC is to their benefit because most others in India are already part of it. Of course, ``our`` could mean anything from women, to all Indians, to secualrists, to Muslims, to Muslim women to whatever.
And yes, the common ``our`` is where our struggle should be focused. Good point, Ana.

ji, everyone is prejudiced in some sense or the other. even you as has been noted. :) oxymoronish as it sounds, it is not ``unreasonable`` to be prejudiced against RSS. even you have referred to them as being not responsible. what is your mushkal with kaal`s statement?

ana,
``if this is indeed the case, then someone needs to tell the people who changed the laws in pakistan. no, we are not talking about pakistan, but we are talking about sharia. and according to the laws based on sharia in pakistan, quite the opposite happens. the raped woman is the one who has been punished.``
Which is itself against Shariah. Guess what would happen if Shariah were to be abolished...I would garantee you would see rather draconian slander laws enacted with which rape victims will be silenced or locked up (which is exactly what happened with the Shariah law). This isn`t about shariah, but about a dysfunctional society with institutions that do in fact work, but only on behalf of the powerful and wealthy.
So poverty does have a lot to do with it, and Pakistan`s legal structure is such that it favours the rich. An education and a job changes the power balance.
At least in India, ALL muslim parties are calling for the death of the father-in-law, and no one is suggesting that Imrana was at fault somehow.

#216 Then do me the favor of re-reading my post too, dm-jee. :-)
I didnt say that Ozer is condoning terrorism. This is what I wrote ``I am saying that Ozer`s article is more concerned about his own hide (as expatriate muslim), than it is with the deaths and maiming of real people in London. ``
In order to be balanced, the article would have directed its anger against those behind the London bombings. Not against the Londoners/Brits who were the victims. And the title merely re-inforces this unbalanced nature of the article.

PREVIOUS POST NOT MINE....
Here is my post...
In my honest opinion this is what happens when you allow undefined scriptural law to take precedence over secular legislation and then let Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband make a final decision on it.
Indeed if there have to be scriptural family laws, the decision must lie well and truly with the judge, whether Hindu, Muslim or Christian .... (the expert on Islamic Law on Pakistan`s Supreme Court is a Hindu Rana Bhagwandas interestingly)... for all practical purposes the fatwa should not matter and the constitution should not recognise it.
Sincerely
YLH

Can anybody tell me how the deoband is dealing with the FIL, is he given a sharia punishment or is he being handed to a criminal court. If he is already in a criminal court, why do we have double standards. Why isn`t any IM asking the deoband about this?
These deoband judgements/sharia laws are outdated and should be not be followed by IM. How many of well educated muslims or IM living in cities would accept this kind of judgement, if given.
Zafar:
``Imrana is more a proof of the failure of the state than a failure of Islam in India.``
It`s both. Failure of state to let a deoband issue judgement in a criminal offense and failure of Islam followers to accept this. What would happen if Imrana is forced to accept the judgement and the coward husband realises his cowardness and stupidity and goes to the court to reclaim his marriage.
