Nazis and Japs had to be comprehensively defeated and vanquished before peace could prevail in the world......Pakis have to be comprehensively defeated and democratized for peace to prevail in the subcontinent. Awarding Face savers, compromises to jihadi/military regimes are recipe for future disasters. Because it gives them a life line to regroup and come back with vengeance later.

Thank you, hindvi sahib, for the explanation. Also, thank God for corruption. Salim Chahmana doesn`t sound very good to me. :)

//....have spoken with a lot of pakistanis they are keener than the indians to get on with their lives but nobody wants to loose face and be seen as caveing in...//
Loose face they should. Making pakis ``loose face`` should be part of the deal. Otherwise we would be repeating the follies of 71 - then also, exactly the same arguments were put forth, that pakis do not want to ``loose face``. We acquisced and see where that took us.
These people have lost yet another war, this time the covert jihad war and this time, the mistake should not be repeated. Pakis must loose face - they must be explicitly made aware of the fact that they have been defeated comprehensively and should never try the mis-adventures ever again in future.
It`s also important to know why this sudden urge to ``get on with their lives``. It`s because jihad has back-fired on them - their positions in US and other western countries are under attack because of the jihad they supported for 15 years. The plea for ``face savers`` is a typical paki beggar-attitude to salvage something from the debacle so that a spin could be put on and the jihad mentality could be kept alive for any future opportunity.
++++
//..and its not just jihadis but all pakistanis who support kashmir u can see even a guy like hamidm says no trade before Kashmir. ...//
And that should tell you something. You can see that these people are obssesed and irrational. With such attitudes - they can never ``get on with their lives``. They have to change their mindset. There is nothing India can do about that.

``were you there during the riots?``
yes, I was and I understand what you mean by that. Here is the rough sketch of events:
- Dec 06: demolition
- Dec 07: Spontaneous rioting in muslim areas, i particularly remember stone throwing at harbor line trains from muslim slums from Vadala-Sewri till cotton green stations.
lull, essentially Shiv Sena preparing targets.
- Jan: first rumors of 7 of a hindu family burnt alive in hut in Jogeshwari. rumors of muslim rapes on Hindu women (essentially shiv sena spreading propaganda)
- first attack on a muslim business on timber merchants in mahim.
- full scale riots start, i lived close to a muslim slum, witnessed police shoot at sight.
March 12-13: Bomb blasts: Plaza cinema, century market, air india blg, stock market
dadar station (atempted), sena bhavan (attempted)

``dost mittar sure they herd them to vote after the parties and candidates have been vetted by the govt.``
Looks like you and I have been reading different newspapers. The ones I read said that the government tried its best to get the hurriyet parties to participate in the election but they firmly held to the position that the only election they will participate will be under UN to determine the future of Kashmir.

the best chance for a compromise is with a military regime in pakistan, i have spoken with a lot of pakistanis they are keener than the indians to get on with their lives but nobody wants to loose face and be seen as caveing in. And Musharraf is the man, there was a footage of his i saw during kargil when he was at Skardu examining weapons with a ciggarette in his hand and he asked an aide wether this would look ok on TV as the journalist was getting ready to interview him, the aide disapproved but musharraf went ahead anyway, again when he was interviewed at home he had a dog in his lap, its a big no no for a pious momin, but again he didnt care, the guy appears to be straight forward, and i believe him when he says he told Nawaz everything about Kargil before he proceeded, but sharif was such a numbskull he probably never expected India would deploy 3 or 4 divisions and fire a few hundred howitzers round the clock until the snow turned black, the top was blown of the mountains and the streams ran black with cordite, they didnt expect young indian officers and jawans would run up vertical slopes without any armour and lay down their lives by the hundreds, that soldiers old and young would volenteer from across the Indian army units because this was the last chance they would get to see combat before they retired
and its not just jihadis but all pakistanis who support kashmir u can see even a guy like hamidm says no trade before Kashmir. what to speak of the kashmiris them selves.
You were there in Bombay during the bomb blasts? were you there during the riots?

//....maybe this was a compromise in your view, evidently it wasnt to the satisfaction of the kashmiri`s or pakistanis and a one sided decision is no settlement...//
Satisfaction of Pakis? Who cares about satisfaction of pakis? Pakis lost the war and they were given a generous way out - they should be very satisfied. And kashmiris are nowhere in picture in this.

Even Musharaff is on record stating the current slowdown in jihadi operations is similar to the Treaty of Hudaibiyah between the Banu Quraysh and the Prophet Muhammed. Sometimes the prophet himself had to make compromises.
We all know what happended to the Banu Quraysh, so when Musharaff is so explicit about his intentions, which fantasy world should we live in to believe otherwise.

You in your various guises have impressed me and foxed the chowk staff. I think you are far too intellegent a man to waste your time fighting battles on unplugged. focus here, contribute and also bring back the humour with which u arrived on Chowk, I loved your bear traps. dont waste your energies.``}
Hindvi Sahib, Bohot bohot shukria - aap ki inaayat he. Dhanewad.
So that`s what it is called? a scabbard. :) BTW, what are ``Chahamanas?``
Sir, you are too generous in your praise. I never did outfox the full-time chaprasi they hired on Chowk UP to follow me around and delete all my messages and erase everyone of my threads. All the chai/paani spent on that rascal never helped my case. May Bhagwan protect us all from desi chaprasis. Nevertheless, many thanks for your compliments and kind welcome to FP.
Speaking of humor and wasting my energy, now that we are talking about statesmen, let me share this one with all my Chowkie friends - I just heard it from an American friend at the consulate here.
``This old Russian soldier was on his death bed in a hospital not far from Moscow. He was delirious and kept asking the nurse to get Nikita Krushchev for him. ``He was a great leader and I want to say good-bye to him, I want to kiss his bald head.`` The nurse, a well-endowed and full-figured babushka pleaded with the old man that Nikita had died a long time ago, but the man persisted. Finally, the nurse had an idea. She loosened her shapely uniform and removed her right ornament. She told the man ``Look, I got Nikita here, he is not very tall, so just lean over and wish him well.`` The old man placed his hand on the bald ``head,`` expressed his happiness at finally meeting the great stateman, and placed a juicy smooch on the spherical shape. Now the nurse really enjoyed this, so she told the old man, ``Guess what? Mr. Dick Cheney is also here to wish you well, want to say hello to him? He just had a heart attack so he is in a wheel chair. `` She offered her left ornament this time. The old man leaned over and said ``Thank you, Mr. Vice-President, very kind of you to visit me.`` He then rubbed his hand on the bald ``head`` of Dick Cheney and placed a sumptuous kiss on ``him`` too. By this time, the shapely nurse was really hot and bothered. So, without any further hesitation, she said to the dying man ``By the way, have you met Fidel Castro?``

Exactly, there is no Kashmir problem, there is only a Pakistan problem. With Pakistan as a rational democratic state which we can trust there is no problem.
As events over the past 15 years have shown Pakistan is moving further away from being a rational state.
hindvi, what is your opinion on this, will a compromise made with the current millitary regime stand or will be viewed as ``surrender`` by the Hindu`s and the first step for a total reconquest of Kashmir.
P.S.
I was about 150m from one of the blasts on 12th March, 1993.
