A spate of rapes by law enforcement officers - one as recent as that of Sonia Naz and many others indicates that military fascists are using rape as an instrument to control public. Which is in addition to the weekly assaissinations of ulema, political activists, and opponents, death penalties thru summary martial law courts as indicated in this article, kidnappings, illegal incarceration of thousands and torture illustrate in detail the moral bankruptcy of napak fauj.

Gull:

in any other society that cherishes the rule of law these questions would be valid and disturbing...but sadly, not in the occupied pakistan

Urstruly:

when the discussion is over rapes you conveniently disappear and here you are unjustifably and unfairly using poor girls rape to take a shot at the occupying army... afsos, sud afsos

I am not taking pot-shots at military regime. Name one sigle rape case involving law enforcement & military personnel that has resulted in a conviction or even a trial in the past six years. Even such high profile case as that of Mukhtarn Mai have gone nowhere. This is only intended to send a signal to the public that police and military are beyond repraoch and accountability. This is necassary to strike fear in the hearts of helpless public and subduing them to utter submission to a fearsome and unaccountable state machinery. I support my point of view with the evidence that when these very instruments of state are used to enforce foreign agenda, then they are not incompetent and corrupt. What happens to the same machinery when it comes to protecting people and their rights?

``A Field General Court Martial (FGCM) is “authorised” to hand out the death penalty only during the very limited period of ongoing war (active combat) – ``

Yes, but isn`t Pakistan in a state of war - the war on terror? Pakistan Army units are involved in active combat against armed civilians and their sympthizers?

``Musharraf’s illegal status and commitment of high treason notwithstanding.
``

Did the Supreme Court of Pakistan not provide legal cover to Musharraf`s take over under the Doctrine of Necessity? How can you call his action as ``high treason``?

I am not a supporter of Musharraf but am questioning your assumption of illegality.

Urstruly:

in mukhtaran mai the faujis were not implicated…in dr. shaazia khalid’s rape some officer was implicated…however…to say that they use this as an “instrument to control public” borders on hoodwinking and deluding...the truth is:

* we do not respect women
* we assign them the lowest rung on the totem pole
* we have rotten psyche

(caveat: `we` does not mean you or i per se)

the root causes for this disrespect should be exposed…instead we hide behind forlorn injunctions

ps: my apologies to gull.

Re: # 4 stuka

You should have read the article in detail. The point is that in Pakistan military law does not apply to civilians period - whether the civilian is a citizen or a foreigner engaged in espionage etc. But even in case of military courts, the convict has a right to appeal. It has a precedence in case of Attock Conspiracy case when several young officers were accused of ``plotting`` against the government, whereas in fact they were criticizing the shameful performance of high command during 1971 war. Several of them were first sentenced to death for treason but upon appeal in military courts their sentences were lowered to jail terms of few months.

In case of Doctrine of Necessity, one should ask the question ``what necessity`` rather than going into legal mambo jambo the kangroo courts slap on nations face.,

Re: # 5 temporal

You are shamelessly accusing a whole nation because your Western masters feed this bullshit into you day and night. In Pakistan in general, even today women are respected. You ignore the fact that for the honor of Dr. Shazia Khalid the nation plunged into a civil war, which was only subdued with the blunt military force against the people of Paksitan and some empty promises that never materialized as always.

Lets accept the fact that like every other fascist regime this regime is also engaged in a psychological warfare with the masses. In psychological warfare perception is everything. Even if military personal and police are given a benefit of doubt that they were not involved in these cases as a state policy, yet they being beyond accountability indicates that state wants to create this perception among people. These are intimidation tactics. If you ask this question to the men on this forum whether any man here trusts police with his women, you will know your answer. Replace the police with military and you will know your answer.

that military fascists are using rape as an instrument to control public.

Of course, you don`t have to worry about these things... seeing as how you`re in detriot an all..

the most you have to worry about is higher taxes to support the stupid iraq war..or the victims of Katrina...

urstruly,

``If you ask this question to the men on this forum whether any man here trusts police with his women, you will know your answer.``

.......... personally, i wouldn`t trust a sheep, or any other farm animal, with a sexually frustrated pakistani (or any desi) male .... but that is quite irrelvant to this article on which i really don`t have an opinion ..........

Re: # 9 temporal

And so do you; in typical khisiani billi style (declare victory and walk away), which has become temporal trade mark whenever taken to task. To prove yourself why don`t you decalre on this forum that you trust Pak police with your women; that way we will know how false my perception of our state institutions is. Can you?

Urstruly:

both of us love the occupying army in just about equal measure

you want to engage in a dialogue? fine...for any meaningful dialogue some parameters have to be defined...

since you started the ball rolling in # 1...let us stick to that post and my disagreement with it…pls.note if you start name calling i will not respond...and you can declare victory and move on...

your turn!

Re: # 12 temporal

The problem is that you can`t stick to your own parameters - you are flip flop - When I called you a khisiani billi you should not have responded to make your point but you did. Be honest to yourself first, before pointing fingers at others.

when the discussion is over rapes you conveniently disappear and here you are unjustifably and unfairly using poor girls rape to take a shot at the occupying army... afsos, sud afsos...``

Re: # 14 temporal

Yeah ok, but let me first tie down my goat to the tree because hamidm is lurking around. By the way my pet goats name is arjunm - a reallly lovely animal. You should look at her when she walks; looks like an Indian model on a catwalk........on second thought let me just shut up, I don`t want to give hamidm ideas.

Re: # 10

You have made a $$$ point. Can you please share your tips on how to recognize a [sexually frustrated pakistani (or any desi) male] ? Your kind input will prepare the women of the world to be on high alert and set their radars accordingly.

Thanks.
