Chowkstaff,
Why don`t you post the nature of difficulty and reveal the sick and psychotic nature of the author? As for geographical facts... Jay never cared for any facts... why should geography be any different.

Re: # 1 Temporal, a certain person here mixed up Colorado State and University of Colorado. I hope it wasn`t you!
Guruji, nice write up. Did you end up buying a carpet/rug or not? Are your flights limited to flights of fancy?

The following comments are from Jay, the author. He is having some technical difficulty posting the comments himself.

Neferetiti,
Thanks for your response. May be one day the grass mats will come back to Kerala as a fashion statement. In the good old days, they used to call it ``Pizza Effect`` in development economics. It is said that pizza was the food of the poor in Italy where they collected left-overs and baked them into a pizza. The Americans made it into a culinary delight and now Pizza is back in Italy as a delicacy. I do not know the veracity of this, but the return of Yoga and vegetarianism to India should be accounted as Pizza effect.
Regards
Jay

Ally and Temporal.
Can you pl leave the geographical facts alone. Other than the plight of the immigrants trying to make a living by selling carpets in an adverse cultural milieu, there is nothing much else in the name of facts.

Jay

Jay,
Spent a few years in Germany and had a friend there who was somewhat inverse of what you are. Born and brought up in a cold climate, he liked carpets, had invested in expensive antique persian carpets and so on. He and his wife now travel a lot in the East and India is a frequent destination. He did the usual Taj Mahal, Rajasthan, Delhi stuff earlier but has now discovered Kerala and Tamilnadu about three years ago and developed a fascination for grass mats.He can`t resist them because they are ``so fresh and natural``. He has done up his house with them, using them in various places other than the floor. I guess what one does not commonly have becomes exotic and interesting and vice versa, don`t you agree? Nice article. Thanks.

Isfahan is NOT a village!!!
Very historical and old Persian city...
Jalalabad is many miles from being included in Pakistan. Do you not watch news in Oz? How many times was the map of Afghanistan shown on TV during their invasions???
Like saying Kolkata is in Bangladesh or Dhaka is in India!
Khair..
The best carpet deals are in Quetta, and that IS in Pakistan

[i can be faulted for thinking the beltway is on mars and foggy-bottom in some other galaxy…]
T-Bhai, please let me remind you this author is from Kangaroo land and may not have the same geographical frames of reference as the bandits and even the ex-bandits do – and for all one knows, after reading your post, he may be looking at his waistline to understand the connection with the “beltway”, and as concerns the latter… let’s not even go there!

All this song and dance about one lousy carpet? You see, you run into all these problems because you are not a woman. If you were, you would have gone about it the RIGHT way which is as follows: (1) make at least ten trips to each store, (2) visit at least ten stores, (3) talk (if possible) with at least ten salespersons at each store, (4) change mind at least ten times, and after buying it (5) have second thoughts at least ten times, then (6) blame spouse at least ten times for rushing things!
