It is unfair to blame Mushy. Bush invited Pakistani diplomat to the White House to offer relief aid. I am sure he asked for some quid pro in return for the relief efforts.

There will always be idiots who like to talk about god`s wrath. Add stories of American, Israeli and Indian conspiracies. Get used to it.

I was watching Bill Maher the other day and Salman Rushdie was on for an interview. He said one thing that stuck with all of us who watched and I quote ``God is angry with the Believers``, now I myself am in no position to assume God`s mood. As a matter of fact all of the humanity combined together cannot even reach one strand of God`s wisdom. But with the little wisdom God has granted us we can atleast assess the situation.
In Iraq believers die in hundreds EVERY DAY...... Palestine tens or hundreds die by the day....... Tsunami left many in Asia dead...... And now the Earthquake thousands have been dead..... In Muslim occupied territories (Kashmir, Chechnya, Bosnia etc..) many have died and continue to suffer. Maybe Rushdie is right but what the heck does he know about God..... He wrote satanic verses he is gotta be nuts I thought to my self.
So why is it that believers all across the globe are suffering either by Western Law enforcement agencies or by natural disasters. I came to only one conclusion and that being: Maybe believers are not believers no more, during all this time some how the non-believers started becoming better by learning good from us, and we started becoming worse and worse. We are slaughtering each other and stepping on each others shoulders to look tall. Women are not equal and being mistreated. All the traders are thieves and want to rob the client rather than want to be the trader our Prophet was. Our governemnts are all run by thieves and known culprits...... Maybe Rushdie was wrong all along God is not angry with the believers maybe God is angry with those claiming to be believers, the Muslims of today............

ijaz gul: thanks for the informative update. one suggestion those wishing to contribute to the relief work may wish to consider - since the destruction is so widespread , many chowkies may know of some individuals affected, or they would know people who know someone affected. The money could then be given directly to those whose homes have been demolished. This way you know the money will go directly to those who need it, and at a particularly traumatic time.

Govt is doing fine. I am not criticising it. Maybe, one is wiser in hindsight.

But the extent of Earthquake was immediately known. 30,000 was always a safe good enough figure of affectees to begin immediate work instead of wasting time on accurate assessments.

Similarly, it was a common sense that they would need tents, blankets, food, water and medical help. (also electronic communications)

The fastest way to provide all this was to release 75% of the military stocks of tents and blankets. Also asking for the open purchase of these items from the market. Also placing an immediate order for 2000 `1 gallon water bottles` daily from the local water suppliers. Similarly ordering for 30,000 food boxes daily for a month from the local hotels/restaurants/food chains.

And task the QMG to have them delivered to the areas immediately in miltary trucks & hired trucks in coordination with the UN agency.

The military could later be replenished with these loaned items through all the donations that are now being received. (Similarly, TV 1 type media supported campaign could centrally coordinate the public donations with couriers, trains, airlines, civil transports etc)

Except for the helicopters and technical expertise, I did not like asking the world for basic items such as tents/blankets etc that we produce in good numbers.

This is also the time to ask the parliament to pass a Rs 30 billion support bill to make small earthquake resistant houses in the area through the national house buildng corporation.

The foreign aid could be earmarked for facilities such as schools, hospitals and services.

These people lived a simple minimalist life & rebuilding their life to their standard is not expensive at all.

8 Islamic terrorists among 16 killed in quake-hit J&K
Srinagar, October 9

Sixteen persons, including eight Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) infiltrators and a self-styled district commander of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, were killed in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.

Troops foiled an infiltration bid when they gunned down eight LeT infiltrators near the Line of Control (LoC) at Jamia Galli Gulmarg this morning, the spokesman said, adding a soldier was also killed while two others were injured in the gun-battle.

Security forces killed another LeT militant in an encounter at Dangiwacha in the north Kashmir district of Baramula last night. An AK rifle, four magazines, four hand grenades and 80 rounds were seized from the slain ultra.

Three militants, including a self-styled district commander of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, were gunned down by the security forces during a search operation late last night at Sayan village under the Kokernag police station.

An AK rifle, five magazines, two pistols, one hand grenade, 108 rounds were seized from the slain ultra.

Two charred bodies of militants along with two AK rifles, five magazines and 19 rounds were recovered from the debris of the Janwari Complex at Sopore where security forces and ultras were locked in a gunfight on Friday, the spokesman said.

Militants kidnapped and later killed Mohammad Yousuf at Bansal Mahore in the Udhampur district last night, he said. — UNI
