Dear Farzana

It is a pathetic attempt to prove that ``end justifies the means``.

[Same is true, to some extent, about Mulayam Sigh Yadav and Maya Wati.Y ou may not agree with everything they do, but , for sure, they have shown that who are actually masses and what can mass power do, if organized.]

So did Hitler. Now what does that prove?

Going by your logic, a man who has proven himself to be one of the most conscientious and capable men to have become India`s PM, Manmohan Singh should make way for these two-bit thugs, who have enriched themselves and their relatives and cronies, while leaving the people who voted for them and their state to rot away. Name one achievement of these thugs? And no, hoarding wealth, calling themselves the living gods and goddesses, and playing populist politics like insisting that the CM be a Muslim don`t count.

The ``so called`` intelligentia of India are the left-wingies, and writers who buy coffee at 80 Rs/cup. According to them, real Indians are the uneducated and the illiterate. Anyone who is educated well, not socialist in his/her outlook, and looking towards pulling himself/herself out of the mess is not ``real`` or is elitist. Apart from his antics, whipping casteism, rallying people for nothing, harboring criminals within the office and outside, pandering to the histrionic crazy media and public, what else did the yadavs do, folks ? And, we have people write articles, and admire such buffoons. Being crass, semi-literate, casteist, powerful on the streets do not maketh Lalu a leader of the masses. Keep your admiration for such people to yourselves. Urban suaveness is not necessarily un-indian. DO NOT pontificate, sir. People can be suave, educated, english speaking and still be Indian. The likes of Lalu, Mulayam, and Paswans have reduced democracy to just an election tamasha, all in the name of the ``masses``.

Enough crap since the last 50 years, and people still hear it every now and then.

Great article FV ji.
I am sure, like in Indian so called elite intelligentia, this article will be ridiculed by some here as well. Those who laugh on Laloo, actually have been brought up on the staple diet of ``suaveness, urbane image, intelligent looking,English speaking`` mentality. For them, Laloo is ``galay ki haddi`` . Same is true, to some extent, about Mulayam Sigh Yadav and Maya Wati.Y ou may not agree with everything they do, but , for sure, they have shown
that who are actually masses and what can mass power do, if organized.True, they are using caste or even religious inequalitiesand differences to gain political power, but who is not doing that?Only thing is, that Laloo et al have started from the other end.
Booth capturing can not be the reason that Laloo gains power everytime. We have been hearing similar excuses against Left Front in WB as well since more than 25 years now.

Some people are just whiners. By writing trash like this article, heckling others, stirring controversies where there`s none, they think that is their calling in life and serves humanity.

Did Laloo also appoint Muslim lady Imams in the mosques ? Did he have the political and personal will to do that ?

Laloo is NOT vital for us, Madam. Cut your crap. He is as vital as your favorite punchbags are - Advani, Thakeray, Shankaracharya...

``He does not have a set agenda... `` FV for sure heck knows all that happens in this world. There was an agenda, a scheme behind pulling Gudiya onto the TV. And, Laloo does not have an agenda ?? Gimme a fr1kkin break !! Do not let loose your hypochrisy. Laloo is not an underdog, he is a thief, and he fools a lot of people, including some Chowkies.

Bihar is a strange place... despite having huge mineral wealth (now of course its split into different parts and smaller) it remains economically and socially backward and possibly the most caste ridden society one can find.

most capable biharis (and there are many bright ones) dont stay in Bihar... and even the poorer sections migrate to Punjab, Calcutta and Bombay for menial work

its ironical that Bodh Gaya should be in Bihar of all places.. But then Bihar`s present bears little connection with its past (Nalanda University)

Even highly educated biharis sometimes cling to social mores that seem quaint.. Like I knew one esteemed professor who was a bigamist, with one wife in the village and another for the public eye.

Lalu represents the worst that Bihar has to offer. I wonder how many Bihari muslims migrated to Pakistan after partition. perhaps they were the better off. As far as I know, Bihari muslims are one of the backward groups in that state.

On the positive side Lalu doesnt bother about the actual admin and budgeting of the railways.. so consequential decisions are made by the PM and bureaucrats and apparently has had a positive effect. The Kulhar episode was funny.. unlike what most people think these clay pots do not degrade easily and pollute the environment for a long time.

I am sure if Laloo backs the BJP tomorrow I wonder if Farzana would still be singing praises

Re: # 18

Godot Ji,

I don`t think Kulharee means that. Let me tell you what it means in Punjabi.

Kulharee (ax) (no relation to Kulhar) has two parts: Dusta (handle or the wooden shaft) and Siri (Head or the Blade Part). Depending on the situation, either part comes in handy. For you my friend, I would like to shove the Dusta up your fart-speaker, and for offenders like Urstruly I like to do some chop chop with the Siri part. So it is in your own best interest to not piss me off, or at least not a lot. Little bit is OK and I invite it to stay in shape.

Regards

No surprises here, there is a certain type of indian ``intellectual`` who admire
Lalloo, Mulayam etc. as wonderful. Mulayam is Lalloo`s buddy in UP who is on record as supporting Mullahs who said that a women should divorce her husband once she had been raped.

What can you say to historically illiterate people who say things like ``For years, history has been telling large sections of our society that equality is a myth``. Presumably, the history of all other countries is one of extreme equality. Why don`t we ask the black slaves of the 18th century USA, the native peoples of 16th century South America, the jews of 1940`s Europe how ``equal`` they felt?

Thank goodness we have lots of people who are not trapped in this kind of intellectual wasteland. These people are creating schools, building new factories, new roads, giving micro-loans to womens groups, ensuring that school lunches are cooked and nutritious.

Even 10,000 Lalloos and Ferzanas will not be able to stop their energy and enthusiasm.

``one wishes Bihar has a separatist movement, and we could then offer ferzana a one way ticket to patna..``

a joke about lalu:

once a japanese P.M. comes to bihar to visit bodh gaya. being impressed by its serene surrounding and the natural richness of bihar, he says,`` If i were you, I would make bihar into japan in 4 years``.

Lalu shoots back saying, `` If i were you, I would make japan into bihar in 4 months``.

not an un-expected article. one wishes Bihar has a separatist movement, and we could then offer ferzana a one way ticket to patna..(sorry, ranchi, jamshedpur is still ``ours``) LOL.

now its time for a timely article about how earthquake relief effort in ``held`` kashmir. contrast between general apathy towards this quake compared to one in gujrat is a good starting point.

Kulharee:

as every one said, it is some kind of earthern pot. I heard of it only when Lalu became Railway minister.

Farzana,

here are some more info on Lalu

Like hanuman chalisa, his sycophants have written lalu chalisa. theres a chapter on him in secondary schools books in the form of krishna in a chariot, as in mahabharat.

he was offered honorary doctorate by Patna University by toady officials whose career lay in his/his wives hand. After a uproar by the alumni lalu ``declined`` it.

his brother-in-law, sadhu yadav is wanted in several cases with police ``frantically`` looking for him. But if you happen to go to patna you see see him relaxing in the C.M.`s bungalow

Mohd Shahabuddin, another lalu protege is ``absconding`` for several months, doesn`t matter that he is a Member of Parliament from siwan. he was last seen few weeks back in a public function. bihar police officials say what a big deal if we are not about to capture him, even the indian gov hasn`t caught Dawood Ibrahim.

Gautam, the ias officer involved with ``flood scam`` is in collusion with lalus brothers-in-law. this fact came out because of the presidents rule. if it was rabri rule he would still be considered man of the year (?) as projected by Times magazine.

lalu has used his power/connections to harass witness in fodder scam case.

do you need more info why he should not govern?
