[What`s the big deal about India helping its neigbour? Any cultured nation would do that.]
So what do you call a neighbor that sends in armed terrorists to cut the throats of innocent civilians?

You are very right in your guilt trip.
I did not mean it literally. I was just giving an example.
You need to understand the sensitivity involved in the relationship between both governments. BBC covered a write-up on that issue. If the tables are turned around then India would have reacted the same way as Pakistan has. BBC`s correspondents confirmed that by interviewing some Indian Authorities.
Let`s not forget that America also asked India to take a step forward in helping out its neigbor. This is not to say that Indian assistance was totally driven by that.

Ditto everything you said..
Chowk has served at least one good purpose. It has kept all cyber warriors engaged and captivated for last 5 years. Has chowk not been here, only god knows what mess these mantos, hamids and romairs would have created in real world.

I am not sure if one can count the number of victims who would have made it, had they received the aid from the Indian helicopters.
Easy for you to say if those people weren`t your loved ones....in any case, we`ll never know how many could have been saved....

RE# 188
I don`t know if I got it right in my last post; but I think its a saying in the Mallu language; some Mallus, if there are any here, can correct me if I am wrong; I think it goes like-
Its wiser to maintain good relations with a ``shatru`` (enemy) who lives close-by than maintain relations with a ``bandhu`` (blood relation) who lives far away. Because you never know when you will have an emergency situation and in those times - a shatru living close-by can be more help than a bandhu who lives far away.

This earthquake and politics of rescue/relief between Pakistan/India brings to mind something a Mallu friend of mine said -
It is wiser to maintain good relations with an enemy who lives close by than a blood relative who lives far away.
If only the indian-muslims and pakistanis and bangladeshis, who live in India/Indian subcontinent, would keep this in mind instead of looking towards their Arab masters for salvation and everything else. You know them Arabs ain`t coming anytime soon no matter how many times you face Mecca and pray.

I was just pulling Hamidm`s leg to make him feel little guilty for calling indians vultures :).
You are right. Thin skinned people should not be on Chowk. It can be dangerous to their health. Chowk can be a fun sight if used very sparingly.
Regards.

I am not sure if one can count the number of victims who would have made it, had they received the aid from the Indian helicopters. On the other hand, my father always says that one should have very good terms with one`s neighbor. In case of emergency and disaster, your neigbor is the first one to come to your help and vice versa. Sometimes, your relatives and close friends may not be able to come to your rescue. Similarly, if your neigbor is in trouble then you should be / would be the first one to help him/her out regardless of where you are in the world. These are some basics. On the other hand, not every neigbor gets along very well with each other.
I had read somewhere that one Pakistani Senator criticized the government for not accepting Indian Aid early on. Well, you cannot blame the Government of Pakistan. Both Indian and Pakistani Governments have not been in the best of terms with each other to open the borders without giving a second thought. Kashmir is a sensitive issue. I detest the subject, but despite that it is a very touchy point for both sides.
I guess now the Indian helicopters are breathing in the fresh air of Azad Kashmir and Chaklala. What happened in the past cannot be changed? You can only change the future and talk about the present. It`s stupid to constantly hammer on why the Pakistani Government did not let the Indian helicopters land.
Most of the cyber warriors, both Indians and Pakistanis on Chowk, are idiots. They keep on hammering on the past issues and historical nonsense. Such people are sickos and have nothing positive in their life to contribute to in any way or shape. I guess they are completely vaelaa` bae`kaar(idle). They like to keep on digging the rubbish from the past/history to satisfy their insecure and demented egos. In order to get out of their own negativity, they should write about the present and think about the future.
Hope I clarified the myth about past, present and future.
Thanks.

I think you have been on Chowk for quite sometime. What is new here? Same mentalities and same back stabbing. By now, you should have accepted it as part and parcel of the cyber warriors` thought process. Why raise any hue and cry ? After all being part of the cultured nation, you should know the strengths and weaknesses of your neighbor :)

- They do not hurt their feelings by calling them horrible hindoos and vultures :)
I don`t know about you but my feelings, to the extent that i have any, aren`t hurt one bit by any paki calling me any names...
I honestly couldn`t care less for the thoughts of a member of a ruling class that let`s it`s civilians die because they say they`re unwilling to get over their hatred in accepting help....

yes..and it`s also perfectly normal for pakiland to say it was willing to accept helicopters from anyone but India and Israel...and in the process letting some of it`s civilians die...
par for the course...

Nothing, except -
- Normally good neighbours do not target others` civilians as target of throat slitting on a sustained basis and
- They do not hurt their feelings by calling them horrible hindoos and vultures :)

hmm...so the pakis let their citizens die because accepting indian or israel help would be bad for the dignity of the paki ruling class elite...and the indians are the vultures...
Helicopters now, mules later for quake aid
UN and Pakistani officials have desperately appealed for the world to send more helicopters to help out. During a visit to Muzaffarabad on Friday, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid said extra choppers were vital.
One option remains out of the question -- helicopters from Pakistan`s neighbour and long-time foe India.
``There is a place with hundreds of helicopters that could easily bring food, blankets and tents, and that is in Indian
Kashmir,`` a senior aid official said on condition of anonymity, referring to the disputed Himalayan territory that is split between New Delhi`s and Islamabad`s control.
``But the first thing the Pakistanis told us after the earthquake was that they would take helicopters from anywhere except India and Israel.``

Vultures in action :)

- The officials also revealed that Jamiaut ul Islam-i-Hind had collected 10,000 badly needed tents and was planning to dispatch them to Peshawar on trucks.
- A convoy of eight trucks carrying 1,500 tents and other relief material was sent on Friday by the Delhi Sikh community, they said.
- India on Friday sent a freight train to Pakistan with four wagons of relief supplies for the earthquake victims. The freight train reached Lahore on Saturday.
