behram: i would be interested in learning about your what you find out, though, about the economics of investing in solar energy in pakistan. as the rebuilding work gets underway, this could be one of the things that could be built into the ``model towns`` that shaukat aziz is talking about. hope you will update us on chowk about it.

on kashmir, while i dont think all of kashmir (i.e. the land) is worth even one single life (pakistani or indian), and we should accept the realities at the LoC and move on.
However, the response of the general publics in india and in pakistan to kashmir indicates that while india may have physical control of half of kashmir, all of kashmir is ALREADY ours. That is, the pakistani people have felt this misery of the kashmiri people as if it was their own children who were trapped inside the fallen buildings. While in india, it was politics as usual.
I read the Hindu newspaper during the earthquake, and all it had to say for several days while kashmiris were suffering was about their precious damned helicopters - while pakistani papers to this day are dominated with talk about the suffering of the earthquake victims. on chowk, while some indian chowkies showed commendable decency, too many of them showed their subhuman qualities by joking about the widespread deaths and misery even as people (their own supposed ``countrymen`` as well) were trapped and dying in kashmir. about these subhumans, the less said the better.
Even the in distant US, the washington post had pictures of earthquake victims on the front page for 3-4 days after the earthquake. even the people of the middle east have demonstrated great humanity - TV telethons in saudi arabia and jordan, vast public fundraising in turkey. but from india and also china it has been basically pro forma government to government transfers of stuff.

behram: i come to chowk to avoid work (or to take a respite from work, as i like to think). :-) so if chowk starts generating work (i.e. getting serious about investing in solar energy in pakistan, as i assume is why you wish to discuss this offline), then i kill the purpose i come to chowk. but let me know if you have any questions on solar energy on chowk, rather than via emails, and i will try to get the answer for you. regards.
