.......... how do we know this for a fact ? ........ how do we know it was not hatched in the pentagon or the oval office ?......... if bush had run on the platform of regime change in iraq in 2000, i would have voted for him on that issue alone .......... he did not have to build a case based on wmd and all that - the american people would have supported him in his effort to bring civilization to the middle east ............. it was a political mistake with nothing to gain ...... now he is making the mistake of not putting in the forces required to finish the job .........

You raised a question: ``..how do we know it was not hatched in the pentagon or oval office?`` I went only as far as the newly revealed facts supported my assertion. You might be correct in what you think. These facts might come out in the (near) future.
As far as your unconditional support for President Bush`s vision of the world is concerned, I respect it. That`s your personal view. I am more concerned about the constitutional aspect. If perjury is a criminal act, it should not be overlooked and allowed to go unpunished. The secret and underhand plots should not be part of our government policy. The constitution of the country should not be butchered at the altar of ``war on terrorism.`` No one should be above and beyond law.

........ i agree with you that constitution should not be butchered at any altar ........ even though i fully support with the bush admin`s war in iraq, if they deliberately lied and misled the people they should be exposed and punished ......... my only fear is that it might hurt the war effort - it is important to have a complete victory ........ we don`t want another long drawn seventy year war, like the one against communism and fascism .............

Now that we are there in Iraq, it will be a political mistake to cut and run. The administration rushed to war with Iraq apparently for the wrong reasons without a comprehensive plan for waging the war, for controlling the aftermath (which they had refused to believe; they thought everything would just be rosy and welcoming) and getting out.
The U.S. should not rush to get out of Iraq. But you know what? a continuing occupation of Iraq is also full of treacherous potholes. The insurgency is not dying down in spite of American frightening capability for inflicting damage and destruction. The existing situation is quite complicated and requires a very carefully considered plan. It is still in the interest of U.S. to win the confidence of its historical allies for cobbling the Iraq mess. The biggest coalition ally, UK, is enmeshed in its own internal problems emanating from the Iraq war.
More importantly, constitutionalism should not be sacrificed for the sake of Iraq war. Civil liberties at home are already curtailed and it appears that we continue downsliding on this slippery slope.
