``We did not turned overnight into thoughtful, creative and pragmatic Pakistanis, however, the amount of tolerance, spirit of accommodation, wisdom of adjustment and flexibility of interaction we have displayed through our leadership, speak volumes about the constructive bend to our checkered history.``

That looks like some sycophantic Paki official`s foreign policy report to their beloved General.

On one hand we have these fauzis presenting a great image about their tolerance to their past (I have heard that Mushy still wakes up in the middle of the night with 1971 nightmares) and potificating their brand of `tolerance` to the rest of the world ..........and on the other hand they actively connive with the terror leaders of Jaish, LeT and Al-Qaeda........................I do not think that the Indians are impressed by this piece of trash............

simply brilliant.

Reminds me of how history has been doctored back home (Pakistan-India).

LOL that was VERY good.

Life IS chaotic and in human experience, seemingly, nonparametric. It may be that there is nothing `out there` to model in the first place (what with, in repeated experiments, `perfect fit` models proving to be most distant from actual data). We might just want to understand life, living, and Time at the level of description.

Then, for all practical purposes, the simple mathematics of say, Tukey`s robust methods would suffice.

Heck, that could be one reason why poorly-educated, `rule-of-thumb` villagers tend to be less `biased` (and much less harmful) than the sophisticated, `big-global-ideas` urbanites whose minds are bubbling with imaginary parameters!

`` That has really angered Chinese who are also part of that history. A couple of moths ago Chinese Prime minister hinting at Japan’s effort to doctor its history said, “Only a country that respects history, and takes responsibility for history, can take greater responsibilities in the international community.” That phrase is too good, however, to be left for Japanese alone. ``

Is the Chinese Communist Party going to accept responsibility for the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution ? What is good for the goose is good for the gander ?

`` Japan has made seventeen official apologies to China over the last 33 years that include one from the Japanese emperor himself while he visited Beijing in late 1992. Since 1972 when the ties were reestablished, Japan has given very gracious aid to China which runs into billions of dollars (more than 30 billion dollars to be precise) to make up for the unfortunate Chinese loss in men and property. The beautiful Beijing International airport as well as City’s new subway system is the result of Japan’s economic involvement in China. ``

All these apologies have more to do with geopolitics than any real anger or remorse. It is similar to Pakistanis whining about Indian Muslims but who look the other way at Burma or Sudan or Iraq or Turkey.

#2 O wheel of time, how can you say this with a nic like yours? You who have seen it all.

Those who realise that Time never stands still, also realise the stories never stand still - they are constantly renovated, reinvented and modified.

However, we need to be absolutely clear that : There is never a past, and the future is many and undetermined. The present is only one - in fact THE ONE.

Since it is the one, and should be memoryless - -> the many futures are dictated by the choices made in the now (almost like a memoryless markovian process)

Note: some memory is retained with a covariance factor - hence the many stories (all having similar expected values), there will be a bias in the selection of choices. The key is the elimination of this bias. That is when progress occurs.

Nobody glosses over history. It is so powerful a part of identity that people, instead, invent it wholesale even where it doesn`t exist.
