soysauce,
since pak is not sweden, i would not be surprised if relief operations are not working like clockwork. however i think ayaz amir`s insinuation that senior officers are taking part in mujras while victims are dying is particularly distasteful. i think within the context of pak, army is the best institution to direct the operations. and certainly i cant even begin to imagine the disaster that would have befallen had ayaz amir`s political party, headed by nawaz sharif, been in power. also fyi, ayaz amir ran in the last elections and lost. since then, he has been singing the same song in columns for dawn. his tune however was different before the elections. also btw, his point about jawans being noble while officers being corrupt is nonsense. officers themselves come from the rank of jawan and i cant think of reason that would cause them to turn to monsters as they rise up the ladder. also in my experience, institutions that are corrupt at the top dont have good people at the bottom as ayaz amir insinuates.

To what question? I was merely refuting the basis by which arjun_m came to the conclusion that Pakistanis are ``wannabe-arabs`` (which may or may not be true) by saying that population percentage of group X is necessary to have unfavourable opinion of group X.

*shrug* Considering we`re on a website that`s frequented by Pakistanis, why don`t you ask *them* why so many have an unfavourable opinion of Jews ? I never said that Pakistanis don`t have an unfavourable opinion of Jews, nor did I say that they hold this opinion for Z or Y reason.
///I`ll be eagerly waiting for a LOGICAL response.///
Logical enough for you ?

the notion that internal problems of pak has anything to do with the level of aid is comical. and the fact that english medium type pakistanis would even make this claim is a perfect reflection of their brainlessness and their intellectual dishonesty. in recent years, conflict in s.l. and indonesia has been ``logarithmically`` higher than anything witnessed in pak. according to different sources, s.l. army his killed between sixty to seventy five thousand tamils. and tamils have responded in kind by launching a campaign of suicide bombing that dwarfs anything witnessed in pak. and as in pak, in s.l. as well, suicide bombers have stuck at targets associated with westernes such as hotels and airports. the attack on the airport actually destroyed half of s.l. airlines air fleet!.
the story is no different in indonesia which has been involved in absolutely brutal conflicts in east timor and acheh and where there has organised pograms against chinese few years back. recently however, indonesia has been in the news because of islamic miltancy. the attack in bali in fact took more lives and killed more westerners than the combined total of all the terrorist incidents in pak after sep 11. and the alleged planner of bali bombing, he got about three years in jail. also unlike pak, islamic parties actually dominate the indonesian parliment and recently, there have been attacks against ahemdis in indonesia.
i could have pointed out all these facts earlier. however i did not because i wanted to see if there was any other pakistani on this website who would point this out. and just as i suspected no one did. and this fact more than anything else provides an answer to image of pak in the eyes of westerners.

You are absolutely right, I did forget to submit Post #215 respectfully.
Thank you for reading and your comment [but your sentiments are so noble.]

[So we give up?] Of course not.
We must work in smaller circles. We must promote harmony. We must promote truth. We must promote discipline. As Mohd. Ali Jinnah had said long time ago: Pakistanis must have Unity, Faith and Discipline.
You say that rhetoric is cheap. Yet, through such devices, people are leading our country.
Agreed....[ Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things and good things dont die.
One step at a time, one day at a time keeps me going.]

So we give up? Call these people names, hang our heads down in shame of being part of a failed experiment, write a few blogs and move on? I know rhetoric is cheap and I myself feel fairly disgusted and frustrated by all of the things you mentioned. But we have no choice to keep hope alive.

Dear Aamir,
Thank you for a response.
You ask “who are we?”
I am an honest man, making an honest day’s worth of living. I do not lie and I do not deceive others. I am not corrupt. I am incorruptible. I see my country being torn in pieces and I have no voice in it. I get leaders who lead me..... but I do not elect him. I see them spewing hate in their speeches, in their activities, in their murders. I see their police raping my neighbors and I hear their President accepting this as a normal fact. I do not see an embarrassed and an ashamed society, because they have no shame.
I have not seen any modernization in my country. I have not seen a just judiciary. I have not seen the advancement of my society. I have not seen improvement in sanitary conditions. I have not seen improvement in education. I have not seen improvement in the general Pakistanis’ behavior.
I have seen liars. I have seen tricksters. I have seen deceivers. I have seen crooks. I have seen people who are money hungry. I have seen people who promote hate. I have seen people who promote ethnic violence.
I have not seen people who are after knowledge. I have not seen people who are after truth. I have not seen people who promote unity. I have not seen people who promote love.
Yes, Aamir, I agree with you that we have to take responsibility at an individual level. And I do. You suggest that we get rid of the leaders that are unsuitable. Agreed. And then replace them with what? another crook?
That is the dilemma that my country faces. And that is frustrating.

Dear Behram1
Actually I am an image consultant for Musharraf. Just kiddin! No I am not his mouthpiece and was quite amused by your comments. I later saw parts of the interview and yes he did talk about the `tourist` angle. But then again, what I wrote wasn`t exactly rocket science.
We can talk about the part where you say ``we are not them``. Then who are we? And who are them? We need to take responsibility for our leaders and they of us. If they are not fit for running the country then it is our responsibility to get rid of them. Secondly, we are leaders at individual levels. I am the leader of my house (with my wife`s permission). We need to assume responsibility at whatever level we operate at. 10 years ago Musharraf did not think he`d be the president. 10 years from now I may be running the country. Sadly it may not happen but my point is that we need to accept responsibility for the mess we are in rather than disassociating ourselves because our forefathers or someone else created it in the first place.

Dear rsridhar:
You wrote [.....though i concede being an NRI, i do have a soft spot for India.]
And now we know that you have Pakistanis` sugar cane.
You also write [.... Perhaps the reason why i hit it off so well with my Paki friend in those days was we carefully avoided talking about religion and politics. We talked a lot about movies.]
And then, you discovered that rocks are bouncing inside your head.

Dear Aamir:
I agree with you that we should be introspective about our country. I agree with you also that our leaders, politicians, `elite` did not come from another planet.
I disagree with you, however, that they are us and we are them. We are not them. Pakistanis have been led on the wrong path for so long. No wonder, after 60 years, you had to write an article about ``Why Doesn’t the World Care?``
I am still waiting a response to my post #131 which I re-post
[Dear Aamir,
Are you somehow a mouth piece for the Pakistani administration? Some of your comments were expressed by President Musharraf himself.
It seems that he had time to read your article before his interview with the BBC.
I was amazed that he stated your written words almost verbatim.
Please clarify this.

Dear rsridhar:
{It is that mindset that some of us are trying to understand. Why is it O.K for Pakis to have choppers from US, have NATO forces land in their midst but not have similar aid from India.} As I continuously suggested, remove those rocks bouncing around in your mind.
And may be there is a faint chance that you will become enlightened.

Getting rid of those rocks that are bouncing around inside your head, and those Pakistanis` sharpened sugar canes must be really better things for you to do.
