``Egalitarian`` - words like these are found in socialist and communist literatures and ideologies. In real and natural world, there is no such thing.
You can`t weaken or destroy entire societies to correct the past of few. Many refugees that came from W Punjab - penniless and destitutes have triumphed and surpassed the natives in E Punjab. They did not ask for or recieve any special treatment.
It is also bad for the `beggars`. Blacks have not been successful despite aids because they are now addicted to begging. A penniless illegal Chinese triumphs while a black with aid never succeeds. Think about it.

Money buys almost everything but does not buy happiness or character.

Quota system is a miserable disease. Not all brahmins are wealthy. A poor Brahmin kid who scores 90 percent is replaced by a `choora` who fails with 40%.
Would you rather be operated on by that `choora` or by that brahmin? Only the playing field and the equipment should be equalized.
My cousin (brought up in foreign and convent system with facilities) was outdone by a `backward class` sikh so poor they did not have a light bulb. He scored higher in medical exams (punjab, AIMS etc.)...because he had higher expectations of himself. He is now an excellent surgeon.
Two words describes the `quota` system - kanjarpana and haramzadegi.

There should be only one criteria for selection - MERIT. A private company does not care about race/caste as long as it benefits the company. To stay competitive, a compnay wants the best and brightest.Quota system is a miserable disease. Not all brahmins are wealthy. Most photos Mantolives posted earlier were British that Pakis inherited....or Mughals`.....Islamabad and the motorway was built by American dollars....though they have been preserved well by keeping the regular Pakis out of Isloo. The ``prostesters`` in the photo were raising anti - Israel slogans and rally. I was a student of social sciences and read widely the reltionship between culture/evolution/humans etc. I noticed that humans have evolved to make arts an integeral part of existence. Monotheistic religions go against these natural cravings and instincts; thus despite the fanatical opposistion by caretakers of the religion, people eventually turn to these artsy cultures and ways of polytheists. That is why Inidan movies have so many converts in muslim world - they are deprived of this human desire.

I wonder why Lollywood doesn`t do well in these countries....they don`t have kissing on screen either....it must be that Kafir touch....this reminds me of a `sher` by a famous muslim poet about how his `momin` (boot, idol) is more beautiful.I was a student of social sciences and read widely the reltionship between culture/evolution/humans etc. I noticed that humans have evolved to make arts an integeral part of existence. Some SAs are just plain kameena and cheap. My uncle is very rich, but was poor to begin with, goes to India about 4 times a year....He always gets into fights with coolies, cobblers etc. over 10 Rs....one coolie even taunted him that he spends thousands of dollars on airlines, but ``gaand paardi`` when giving 10Rs to a poor coolie.
Personally, I hate the tipping concept....Waiters and others should be paid well....the owners can just raise rates....it is demeaning to the waiter to play upto and bear the sometimes stupidity of many vile customers....

South Asians/Orientals and tipping.... Older generation is usually miser or not used to tipping. They dont realize or care that the waiter makes 3.00/hr. Younger generation is more knowledgeable and liberal (more interaction with mainstream) when it comes to tipping. There are always exceptions. A young oriental used to come to my grocery store and bargain over a Gatorade bottle....I thought he was poor and let him have the bottle at lower price. When he opened his wallet, it was full of cash. I refused to bargain - he stopped coming. Some SAs are just plain kameena and cheap. The mindset of Indians is weird if not plain retarded....A corrupt politician/govt employee/policeman takes millions in bribes is not spoiled; but if you give rickshaw walla 5 Rs extra because he works hard,....he will be spoiled. No wonder this country has been enslaved for 20 centuries and then British left its pieces in a begging bowl.

Word spread amongst waiters.....they were around us like bees...with towels....opening doors....saluting....turned into a nuissance.
It pays to tip....In Cancun, I tipped better than the local rate....waiters fought over my table....same thing in India....got best service.
Besides it is better to give money to a deserving hard worker than a beggar, or gurudwara where money is wasted or put to selfish use.

A couple of years back I attended a wedding in India, the food was slow, guests too many... Punjabis like to raid the chicken and other meat dishes during marriage....we were getting only a few pakoras now and then....We tipped one of the waiters 100Rs....As soon as the chicken/fish was ready, he would rush to our table with a Scotch bottle and the choicest meats.Word spread amongst waiters.....they were around us like bees...with towels....opening doors....saluting....turned into a nuissance.

my aunt who lives in a remote village (where law usually doesn`t reach) once told a vendor that the colors he is selling is for chooras` taste....the vendor happened to be one....had to bribe the `choora` 100 rs (a big sum 14 years back) to keep his mouth shut. and there is jail time.
the village (poor) belonged to muslims....an old mosque, more like a rubble with bricks scattered is there....none dares touch the bricks. these village will loot their neighbors but are too afraid to use a single brick for their own purpose.....jail time and fines.....i was surprised at this.
